In this episode we cover "The Inferno" by Dante Alighieri; inestimably influential, highly controversial since its release in the 1400’s . . . it is after all about Hell, hell with a capital H. This first segment of the three part "comedia" follows Dante and his poetic guide, Virgil -through the nine circles of hell. Each circle corresponds to a particular sin, and gets progressively more horrifying down to the 9th circle where Dante encounters satan himself, frozen in a lake of ice. Join us as we examine this masterpiece allegory of human dysfunction, and try to make sense of these words - "the path to paradise begins in hell"

It bothers me that Nick's undershirt is always visible under his dress shirt, but at the same time it somehow works with his aesthetic. I guess hes just one of those pretty people who dont have to worry about their clothes. Just an observation

Do you think the corrupt society we live today is essentially a test of our souls, as this environment is but a platform for us to either embrace its amoral code or to resist its temptation? I’m not coming from a religious perspective, merely interested in your thoughts. Furthermore, temptation plays such a pivotal role in our lives, we’re all tempted by something, even the most moral man can be found guilty of temptation… just musing!

It certainly tests us, but maybe more than just a test - it’s also something that helps us to actualize ourselves - by forcing us to find some role of value within a larger network of mutually beneficial roles. Life is hard and people need a lot of help - and I guess the function of society (ideally) is to help mitigate suffering enough to allow people to flourish as best as they can. Maybe the challenge is finding your own way to elevate the society you’re a part of - rather than succumbing to the status quo. To do that you’d probably have to overcome temptations of comfort, conformity, selfishness, etc. - but the potential benefits of this venture for yourself, and everyone else, far outweigh the risks - at least thats my rough guess of how Dante would look at it. Thanks for your question Dale - this is exactly the kind of dialogue we want to start with the channel.
