Good illustration of how circuit boards are not as fragile as some might believe. If the manufacturers make them too cheap, they'll die too fast and the resellers will send them back. I've had five of these for years. Recently went through them all for functionality. All good, reprogrammed all five. Amazing quality. They are pretty well sealed, so even the controls don't get scratchy. BTW, poor mic performance is generally a result of exposure to heat (like a hot car). Time to reorder! These are a real workhorse.

Just a suggestion. If people don't know there is a speaker mod and you label your video as a "tear down" when they see you unsoldering and resoldering a wire it will be confusing. You had the audio on so explain why you are doing what you are doing. It's just helpful that way.

question: What type of tool do I use to remove the antenna nut / volume nut? I mean real tool for that type of washers. I want to make a tool kit for my radios and want to put things together.

I have a Retivis h777, that seems to not transmit. The red light does come on. I'm such an amateur, I've no idea what to check. I also don't have a computer with software to do any programming. This is a work radio, and I'm tired of someone always having to use the "broken" radio. Any suggestions? TY

Cam you help me? My problem is that the voice prompt keep announcing the channel it is on without anyone switching the voice. Once, my friend was about to throw the radio because of that. I tried to remove the prompt but it is replace by loud beeping sound. This is not the only time I have experienced that. It there something wrong with the channel selector?

The on/off/volume knob from a uv-5r will act as a wrench to tighten/untighten the nut for the antenna connector.

bought a couple of these and have tot say for the money i am very impressed,took a bit of time to get the right software,although chirp does do the job it does not give you all the functions,,but for the money would buy some more and the range is impressive also.

We use this model at work. We have problems with the headphone a lot of times where i can hear others in the group but they cannot hear me. After we changed some new headphones they worked fine. But new problem occurred. One unit is doing the same thing even if we take off the headphone. I can hear others but others cannot hear me. They do hear that someone's trying to speak but cannot hear what they are saying. Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

@laagvlieger6: Did you made pictures of the teardown? i would like to patch the pcb of this radio to make it legal for PMR446 (500mW ERP). As far as i know there is no software setting that can adjust power like in other baofeng radio's. Attenuation at the antenna port would be a stupid idea, losing RX sensitivity. what is the change of the speakers solderpoint for?

I have a BF-888(s) and I accidently pressed the PPT button on an external mic just after the radio had said "Please change battery" and now all I can hear is a quiet static sound. Nothing works, nothing. No voice or anything. PLEASE HELP!!

Ik gebruik ze nu dik twee jaar, en ben er erg tevreden over. Ze presteren over het algemeen beter dan de meeste kenwoods waar ik mee gewerkt heb. Wel heb ik de laders omgebouwd. USB charger moduultje ingebouwd ipv de standaard print. Vandaag hebben de BHV-ers op het werk ze vergelekenmet hun set, en besloten dat ze ook voor dit model gaan! De kenwoods hebben niet over het hele terein dekking, de bf-888S porto's wel :D

First of All, I Love Video Because You Didn`t Fake The Soldering part, You Didn`t Cut The Soldering part and show that You soldered the wire in like 0.01 Second like ALL the viral Videos Do, Soldering Is NOT THAT Easy, its tricky , you cant just put it on a part a part and think that itw ill melt it in 0.01 Second, You need to wait a time, few seconds and at the same time you need to worry about wrying componends on boards, all the ic's and smd's , its actually pretty hard thing to do, i solder since im 8, im 32 at the moment and i don`t solder that well as shown in viral videos :D . thank You for showing that.. Hello! I know this video is a little old, but I recently purchased these radios and am having issues with one of the mics. The light turns red on the one in use and green on the one being transmitted to, but i can't hear a voice at all. Any idea as to how to fix this mic issue?

Silent movies went out of date in the 1920's. If you can't explain why and what you are doing, how do you expect others to follow your lead? You should have opened the mic hole while it was apart, that is what gives better transmit audio.

Whats the problem with these.. Bought a set of two to compliment my other PMR446 radios, but no way to talk to them, its a joke. Its chatter on the cheap PMR446 radios, but nothing to hear on these buties
