Barack Obama takes on 'woke' call-out culture: 'That's not activism'

The former US president Barack Obama has spoken against call-out culture. 'I do get a sense sometimes now among certain young people ... that the way of me making change is to be as judgmental as possible about other people and that's enough.' Obama said that achieving change was a much more difficult issue than simply using social media. 'That is not activism, that is not bringing about change. If all you're doing is casting stones, you are probably not going to get that far,' the 44th US president said at the thir Obama Foundation summit on Tuesday.

A lot of media is made to generate controversy because people eat chaos up no matter who they are or what they stand for. People are chaotic creatures and all though they may dream of a peaceful life they constantly seek out chaos and the macabre because its interesting. Perhaps even breaks the mundane of everyday life. The media understands this and takes advantage of it. The more outrage = the more clicks and attention. The more clicks and attention = more profit being generated. We live in a world ruled by money. It's not an issue that lies with just twitter but facebook, tumblr, 4-chan, FOX, CNN, NBC, AOL, Corporate and business media, etc.

no the cancel culture exists because it is perceived as the only way to win against conservative and nationalist views that have no commitment to truth or decency. I remember feeling this way back in 2004 when John Kerry was running. He was literally the best candidate...vietnam war vet, chose to leave college to go to nam, wounded, went back to nam, then a life in law enforcement, then serving in congress. Weeks before the election a lie came out that HE SHOT HIMSELF to get a purple heart. And there was nothing we could do about it...lying always wins. The response is to become hyper sensitive and attempt to use shame as power, as the right uses dishonesty. And the right also uses cancel culture but they don't have the moral authority to use it as much. A white rich guy doesn't have that authority, he can lie, he can't cancel. It is complicated, but I agree that activism requires a level of restraint because any form of intimidation, violent or non-violent will result in a backlash that undermines you efforts.

UBX neo-marxism is a quite well established term tbh mate, you should do a bit of research. Matthew Roth Same. I was very critical of his presidency, mostly due to the insane hypocrisy of giving him the Nobel peace prize and then turning around and continuing to bomb children and commit war crimes under his command. Having said that I still somehow respect the dude as an individual and agree with the excellent point he made here.
