Barbiturates are a class of drugs, easily recognizable with their “-barbital” ending, with the most common drug being phenobarbital. Barbiturates are CNS depressants, meaning they slow down brain and neural activity. This makes barbiturates useful in treating seizures and treating insomnia. Side effects of barbiturates include sedation, dependence, and respiratory depression. Barbiturates are not commonly prescribed anymore because of their high abuse potential and the risk of fatal overdose.

For years I had no clue what on earth a barbiturate was. Even now in college even despite a whole lecture on barbiturates (mind you my professor is AMAZING, it's not him, it's me), I can not visually grasp what they are. I had no idea when I clicked on this video I would leave with this type of in-depth understanding. Thank you. This is exactly what my brain needed to really grasp this class of drug. Thank you. Have you been struggling with NCLEX be it LPN or RN, have you taken the exam for more than once? Are you taking it for the first time? Do you have a too busy schedule to study? I took two once for ‘recreation’ because I believed they may have been similar to benzos. Boy, was I wrong. One of the worst experience I’ve ever had. Couldn’t wait for it to end.

I like phenobarbital, it makes me sleep and i feel like floating entire night and next day... only side effect is delayed ejaculation (no, you dont want it, it is frustrating)
