Thanking for starting with bare shafts with paper. I see to many videos with people starting with flechings first. This does not let them figure out spine or foc.

Agree about having a direction to the arrow. I like to have a slightly high tear (about 1/4" to 1/2") which seems to work for me.

Thanks so much ! I love how you mention the small adjustments and things that can affect the shot. Really helps me think about things in another way

You're welcome! I'm always searching for a little more forgiveness with equipment or my own shot. Sometimes thinking can be a bad thing though haha

Great video man. I was getting a random high shot unrelated to which arrow was shot. I did some creep tuning and found my cams were barely out. Adjusted my Y cable and all was good. The random highs were from not being all the way against the wall. Just more info for the DIYers out there!

One caveat is that some archers use relegated, worn out, warped, or damaged arrows for their bare shaft tuning. My two worn out bare shafts were impacting at different spots and angles. Tossed those and used fresh undamaged bare shafts and the fresh arrows were touching.

This was great but you should do a video on proper arrow building. Sometimes if you tune your bow and arrows and all your arrows are hitting dead center but there’s just that 1 that keeps going high right, it could also be that one arrow is just not tuned properly, so moving the rest down and left to correct for the 1 bad arrow, now you’ll have the rest of your arrows hitting low left.

With regards to bareshaft tuning.... If the bareshaft impacts left of the fletched group with point to the right isnt that indicating a Stiff arrow? If the rest is set center then rather than do yoke etc tune Wouldnt it be easier to try a weaker spine? Or increase point weight of the arrow.

I'll hopefully be able to get this done. I'll need to get a drop away for the test.

1. How should I bareshaft tune for finding the correct arrow length/spine? How should i know if the bareshaft impacts differently because of my rest or because of the spine? 2. What are the exact steps for group tuning?

Awesome video, thank u... Can u talk about spine choice, when your in between spines... Do u shoot the weaker spine and drop poundage or go the stiff and tune for that
@rcrchery
@rcrchery 7 жыл бұрын
I can work this into a video for you for sure! It depends on foc, the game I'm setting it up for, and where things are at in regards to arrow length and my rest positioning.

26.25 arrow @ 70 ibs.. @ 26.5 DL which puts me in between 400 and 340.. not much is mentioned about us shorter lenght DL shooters. Shooting a shorter shaft stiffens it up and tuning becomes a lot harder. AS a hunter there is only so much weight u can add to the front before the FOC becomes crazy. on a side note, your videos explaining tuning r outstanding, wish i had come across these years ago. great job, keep posting them up.. .

Can you adjust the length on the 340 spine and get somewhere in the 13-15% foc range? Maybe make the arrow longer to around 27-27.5?

how well does your big layered target work for tuning spine? Does it deflect the arrows at all giving a false reading of the arrows placement, such as nock left, right, up, down? Does it work well for getting accurate scoring as well?
@rcrchery

When new it works great. Over time you'll see some side to side variance with arrows. BBA makes a foam face you can put on them that helps with this greatly.

Thank you, Steven. It's a target from Big Boy Archery Targets. This one's a one off just for me though color wise so I can test some foam for them.

If you bareshaft tune, is it necessary to check your center shot by doing modified French tuning or does your center shot get automatically lined up when you bareshaft tune?
@rcrchery
@rcrchery Жыл бұрын
I would still check it to shoot everything in the way you’ll be shooting the bow finished out.

What’s the advantage of bare shaft tuning ? If you can achieve a bullet hole with the fletching on, isn’t that just as good?
@rcrchery
@rcrchery 6 жыл бұрын
It just depends on the level you're wanting to go for your own shooting and peace of mind. I prefer to bareshaft through paper as a starting point because I can use it for spine indexing and also nock indexing. It's a way of shooting an arrow with no corrective forces in play.

Is this a way of finding the weak side of the arrow? In other words you’re looking to see which way the arrow is flexing when it’s being shot?
@rcrchery
@rcrchery 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you'd look for a consistent bend out of the bow. It's not so much for weak side of the spine but just that the arrow is coming out of the bow the same way from one arrow shaft to another.

About 6 years late, but what about baeshaft group tuning? Is it a good method or not?
@rcrchery
@rcrchery 5 ай бұрын
I don't think you'd be group tuning the bow at that point. I think using bareshafts would be more working on consistent form and pressures.

@@rcrchery Mr. Robert how about bare shalfs hitting at right side (for a righthand archer) of fletched arrows at a distance of 50meters. Are the arrows too soft or stiff? How to correct this adjustment or tuning? Thankyou v much for your kind explanation!

It's made by Big Boy Archery Targets. If you get one, ask for them to be banded tighter than normal. It'll be a little harder to pull arrows but it'll last for a really long time. I still use my original one that I've had for 5 years. I added a foam layer on the face recently and it's still kicking.

What about having the arrow have a little direction coming out of the bow with the broadhead on there? Won’t the broadhead increase the direction?
