Sun and water (Not heaps of fertilizer) are your friends for getting your Centipede grass to fill in bare spots. Pre-Emergent applications will affect the ability of the stolons and roots to adhere to the soil in a negative way. #lawn, #lawncare, #centipedegrass #stolons #centipedecentral
Fertilizers I recommend for Centipede Grass in Spring & Summer:
Fertilome Centipede Lawn Fert 15-0-15 (w/ 3% iron & micronutrients): shrsl.com/32lqj
Anugreen 16-0-2 (w/ 2% iron and 16% organic matter for soil health): shrsl.com/32lqq
Simple Lawn Solutions hose-end 15-0-15: amzn.to/2U73h6D
Potassium boost -- Simple Lawn Solutions 0-0-25: amzn.to/3FMzZgK
Weed killers safe for Centipede and great results:
Fertilome Weed Free Zone: shrsl.com/2tach
Celsius herbicide: amzn.to/2SPy9ba
DIY Pest Control (What the Pros Use) for Indoor/Outdoor (safe for all grass types):
Talstar P: shrsl.com/3nfok
Liquid dethatch products I recommend that would help alleviate thatch issues, rather than using a dethatcher or thatch rake in Centipede Grass:
LawnStar Dethatcher: amzn.to/3B0ued2
Nature's Lawn Biological Dethatcher: amzn.to/3r5QTjv
PetraTools Liquid Dethatcher: amzn.to/36zdw6o

I like, I live in the Dawsonville Georgia area and my centipede is running and filling like crazy! Every year it expands and chokes out everything! What a wonderful grass! I have only used 15-0-15 granular for years now, until it is unavailable/Hard to get here! Just this year went to a liquid version. I use Trimec Southern for weed control! Also twice a year I put very liberal amounts of Ironite out!

I love Centipede grass for central Florida. When I describe it to people who arent familiar with it , I say "its basically a miniature St. Augustine, that requires less frequent mowing".

Thank you for the insights! I have centipede bare spots that have existed for years and never filled in, but I know it is because the combination of red clay and sand becomes hard like concrete! A few months ago, I loosened up the soil in the bare areas, but I find they want to get hard again after sun exposure, so I have to loose again. I am using a liquid aeration product, humic and trying to get the PH to a better place. One thing I suggest that might help keep the bare spots from becoming hard is to throw down a light layer of peat moss to keep the soil moist and to keep the sun's rays from drying and compacting the soil. I find peat moss helps tremendously when seeding.

Thanks for the comment! I actually did peat moss last year and it did a great job with moisture retention.

Good stuff!! My wife thinks I'm weird because I love to watch centipede stolons run across the turf using patients and a little water. My yard is about 3 acres and it has taken 7 years of patients to see it fill in from nothing but red dirt and gravel to a beautiful Centipede lawn. Once it took off about year 3 it was truly amazing to watch. Sun, water, patience and regular mowing is the key. Shady spots I placed St, Augistine sod. It seems to do better in the shade. Hot cup of coffee in the morning walking my yard watching Gods progress, It does not get much better that!!

Hey there guys, another here from Bham area. Actually Leeds area, between Leeds and Irondale. Appreciate info on Centipede. I’ve always had tremendous trouble with it and I have a lot of it. The worst of it is in the shade and on a slope. I sodded part of it and as soon as the wash starts the centipede dies. When/where it’s right it’s beautiful but when it’s not...

Just moved to the Clay/Pinson area. I moved into a new house with a lawn that has not been taken care of for probably about 3 years. I have compacted soil with a lot of rocks and elevation. Would like to connect with you to get some suggestions.
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare 3 жыл бұрын
Rocks are tough. If you can somehow get a lot of those out without damaging too much of the stolons of the centipede that would be good. I removed quite a few rocks last year, some as big as basketballs. There is also a good product I will review for water penetration on slopes.

I believe my frequent application of pre-emergent herbicides (Prodiamine and pendimethalin) over the past 18 months has slowed the spread of my Centipede grass. The root pruning was noticeable and persistent for weeks. Would you consider using a post emergent tank mix of Celsius and Certainty herbicide to spot spray winter weeds when it warms up a little in February? I have got some Poa annua, hairy bittercress, chickweed, geranium, dallis grass, and a few others here in my Brandon, MS yard. Thanks for the videos.
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare

Yes, I’ve experienced noticeable effects of using too much Pre as well. Celsius and Certainty sounds like a good plan however I would be careful during the transition period w Centipede. Also not sure how effective those are in cooler temps. I may try to use them this year, I enjoy trying different products. I usually let my centipede wake up and then after green up hit with post emergents. I’ll do a vid on that soon. Thanks for watching!

For better growth of stolon lawns like St aug and Centipede, stay away from Orange or yellow pre emergents especially Prodiamine. Simazine is probably one of the best to use for it. Worked at Trugreen for 6 years, so experience is my source.

Awesome job. I wanted to ask your opinion on my lawn. I live in a down hill, so I’m getting lot of rain water from my neighbor’s back yard. Water seeps through the fence leashing soil. Sod will not grow in this area all long the fence. How would you treat as repair such areas ?
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare Жыл бұрын
That’s a tough one…You could top dress with some sand to encourage the water to penetrate deeper. Also there are wetting agents that help water penetrate the soil deeper. If the area doesn’t get much Sun it’s going to be tough to fix

I've reseeded my lawn and have been watering everyday for two weeks.... I have several bare spots where the grass died for some reason... How long before I can see new growth and these areas fill in with centipede?
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare 3 жыл бұрын
Seed is tricky and does take a while especially with Centipede. I’ve heard stories where it takes 3 weeks but I’ve also heard stories that it takes a full growing season. Depends on conditions and the type of seed you got. If by the end of the season you are disappointed with results, pieces of centipede sod are usually cheap (sometimes under $2/piece) so that is an option. Good luck with your seeding!

Thoughts on Milorganite?
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare Жыл бұрын
In my opinion I don’t think it’s a good choice for centipede grass. It has too much Phosphorus, contains zero Potassium (centipede loves and needs Potassium) and I don’t like putting bio solids out on the lawn which probably contains toxic metals etc in the formulation.
