Something I didn't realize about Vader's helmet until later, he's wearing a Jedi robe. The hat part is the hood and his mask is supposed to be like a skull. That's why the helmet flares out like that.

This was straight up one of the Darkest things I've seen in Star Wars...Lyn/4th Sister just slaughtering all of those unarmed civilians...regardless of age or ability to fight or anything...wow.

Shouldn't be surprised by Barriss going good. In The Clone Wars, she stated that the Jedi list their way. She never disagreed with the ideology.

Barriss was never a evil person; she was simply naive, believing she could change the Jedi Order. However, her actions were evil. First, the bombing was meant to provoke change. Barriss' reaction: shock, shame, but also disappointment due to no changes: "The evidence seems clear, Ahsoka, nothing will ever change." Then Barriss took it a step further. She used Ahsoka to either change the Order or reveal their true face. The decision lay with the Jedi Council, and they chose not to change and betrayed Ahsoka. Barriss summed it up perfectly in her speech: She used the word "we" - she also spoke of herself, acknowledging herself as a product of the Jedi's downfall. If we ask why? Just look at Luminara and her logic. Barriss had the same: - Ignore emotions (Ignored attachment to Ahsoka and the Order) - Focus on realities (The Jedi Order is a broken institution, a band of war criminals) - Fight evil at all costs (I'll sacrifice everything to prove my point) That's extremism. Additionally, like Luminara, she couldn't let go either. She literally couldn't leave the Order; she had to fight. And that's the tragedy of this character. Barriss's voice actress called her a "Force of Nature," and that's true. Barriss is a pacifist who hates violence, but it's the only thing she knows. She was forced to follow the path of the Jedi and the Inquisition, which are no different. Both organizations take lives. Because of this, Barriss can either be a calm and empathetic pacifist or radicalize and become a maximally destructive terrorist.

It wasn't, technically speaking, "for no reason." The villagers lied about there being a Jedi. That's why she didn't kill the kid, not because Bariss was in the way but because he was the only one to tell the truth. As she made clear, fear and oppression were her tools of choice. That's what made Bariss reflect, because her partner represented the technique of the Empire as a whole, which is not what Bariss was told by the Grand Inquisitor during her trial.

I was waiting for Jay's "force don't come out your feet" when they made that leap over the chasm. Not disappointed in his new explanation.

It's odd to think the upper/top part of Vader's helmet as being a little funny, when it's the most realistic helmet shape in the franchise, being based off a samurai helmet and a German soldier's helmet.

Y'all bring up a good point...who decides on the Inquisitor's outfits? They're all unique. We saw Barris get gifted her helmet after "graduating" so are all the Inquisitor outfits chosen for them? If so...why? Is it just what they had laying around in that person's size that looked spooky or like...is there something that goes into consideration. Do they get to choose an outfit? So many questions...

@pReview'd, 2:30 DIL that Jay isn't a fan of Japanese Culture; more specifically, Samurai Culture. The name Jedi comes from the Japanese word Jidaigeki (period piece). Jedi wear dougi, traditional wear for martial arts (the folds form a lowercase y when worn), and always kept their lightsabers on their person as the samurai did long ago. Anakin becomes the Shogun, which is why his helmet looks like a kabuto, a nod to the culture it comes from. Darth Vader's war mask (menpo) is another nod to the culture from which it comes. In addition to protecting the wearer's face, it also conceals the wearer's true emotions, which it certainly did--Palpatine failed to read Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi. Darth Vader's menpo looks very different from the ones I've seen, but that's okay. His war mask was a symbol of death, and it stirred fear everywhere he went. Barriss didn't accidentally do anything. She defended herself from someone who was definitely going to kill her. She tried urging him to not go participate in the initiation they both found themselves end. Was it a ploy on her part to get the upper hand? Doubtful. We got to see enough of her story to know she had some serious reservations about the opportunity given to her. More importantly, her story established right off the bat that she was still very much connected to the Jedi. Barriss didn't hate the Jedi. She hated the path they were going down. She was against their involvement in the war. She wasn't against her people. While you haven't yet seen this episode at this point, you'll soon see the horror on her face when she sees how far the Empire is willing to go to get what they want, not to mention their cruelty. The Jedi did nothing like this, even when Barriss was against their involvement in the war. Barriss and Reva are nothing alike on the surface, but deep down they are the same: they are two Jedi who hid behind their Inquisitor status until presented with a way out. I guess Lyn fits into this category too. Woman Inquisitors are stronger than the men, apparently; they found their way out of the darkness and ended up back in the light.

Barriss was never evil. I know some people are confused why she turned back to the light. It’s because she was never truly evil. She did a very bad, bad thing, but she was blinded by the dark side, embraced it, and carried out an atrocious act. Barriss was always an individual who valued life, valued the true Jedi way, and what they were. She was frustrated that they became so wrongly involved with the war (yes, wrongly; Yoda admits this). In prison, I imagine she had MUCH time to reflect upon her actions, and what she did to the Jedi and her dear friend, Ahsoka. She takes her only opportunity to survive Order 66, but her eyes open to the evil of the Empire, and she remembers her Jedi training, as well as what she once stood for. I think Barriss’ story is so well rounded with these episodes and the final one especially.
