Boy, do I remember that jeep on the homestead in the 50-60s. On sundays our priest would come over to have a BIG steak. Afterwards, he would drive the six of us around the farm, being an old army driver. We thought it was fun while he found out all of our secrets... before leaving he would tell mom and dad everything that we said. Never confess and it changed my thoughts forever! Human. It had to have the Wiley name tag if it was a jeep. Thank goodness to be able to remember... our parents supplied a fantastic time in our own dirt patch farm. Have a great day.

Now if DP would just take lessons from MBTS on how to shift that 3 speed he might learn something. But since DP can never be wrong, that won't happen. Great find, thanks for sharing.

Love those old Willys. Very cool. Thanks for sharing that. I use to want one, but the first time I tried to drive one, I could barely get into it and turn the steering wheel. They were made for lean, mean 19 year olds in the military. Not larger people.

#dirtperfect paint it the same color scheme as Lt.Dan. I'm not a new style jeep fan but I'm all about the old school jeeps. They just had a look to them that gave them character. Just like old school cars, trucks , big rigs and etc. I grew up seeing all of the cool stuff. Man I can't wait to see Lt.Dan all together👍🇺🇸👍

Cool find it looks like it might be a M38A1 judging by the body style they were made from 1952-1971 they were also known as the MD. don't know if you noticed or not but if you lift up the passenger front seat there is a tool box/ storage box under it. that's cool it still has the toilet paper roll style oil filter and oil bath air filter

My dad had a 50's willys jeep. 4 cylinder. I was 15 and loved that jeep. low range in first gear you could get out and walk around it while it was running. that thing would climb a tree but 45MPH was about top speed.

Hello; I say the Jeep is from the late 50s or early 60s. The downward slope of the front fenders, location of the battery, the fact that it has an alternator, the "L" head motor, and don't forget the fuel tank. The 12 volt system makes it for sure after 1955 (I think). You should have grabbed those original looking tires and rims. Big $ at a swap meet. More fun for all I'm sure. Baby it, that's a classic.

M38-A1, originally 24 volt, that one has civilian wires/plugs/distributor, 12 volt conversion. Wrong fuel tank, some bits are non-stock, missing fuel can carrier, haven't given the video a full once over. 134 cid "Hurricane" L head engine, T-90 transmission, no heater but often not fitted. A good candidate for restoration.

Diesel Creek's never left the farm proper so it never saw all the salt in the winter. I worked for an AMC/ Jeep dealer in South Florida in the mid 70's. We would get jeeps down from up north that you could put your fingers through the frame and those folks wanted to know why the brakes were pulling the wheel to the side. I did four frame swaps in total. It was a real education for me as I learned how to get rusty, snapped off bolts removed. Usually the donor jeep was in much better shape than the owner's but it had sentimental value.......... Change that oil! The reason it loomed so clean was all the dirt and stuff settled to the bottom of the pan.......right where the pickup is......you sucked all that sludge through the engine before any of that good looking oil did.. It seems that I replaced a few of those 2nd gear synchronizers but don't remember much about doing them so it must not have been much. I know people forgot to grease the slip joints on the drive shafts. They would wear and vibrate like crazy. A lot of mechanics learned their first days working on those jeeps for Uncle Sam. Pretty simple stuff. Congrats on the cool old piece of history! Terry from South Carolina

SWEET!! This project should be as much fun as Lt Dan.....and cheaper too!!. I can't believe how good those seats look. Need to lose that steering wheel. I am not saying it should be returned to bone stock, but unless you are going all out on some kind of transformation, steel wheels and the original military style tires (like the spare) are begging to be on that Jeep. Paint green to match Lt Dan.

I grew up with one of those Willys in the garage. It was a 1948 CJ-2A. Man I miss that old girl. Was the first vehicle I ever drove not sitting on dad's lap. Think I was 9 at the time. Wish it was still in the family. The engine in those old Willys jeeps were call "Go Devils". They didn't go fast but the way they were geared they cold go just about anywhere.
