We bought this awesome 1957 Chevy Truck last year and got the chance to drag him out of the barn. Mr. Herring was nice enough to sell us “Ol Blue” so we can save him and put him back on the road. Old Blue has been in the Herring family for about 63 years, his dad bought him used in 1960 and was used up until about 1976. The last time the truck ran was in 1980, we plan to get it running at least once before we pull the motor and transmission. This is one awesome old step side pickup truck. Ol Blue was born in 1957 in Atlanta Ga. He’s got a 235ci 6 cylinder and a 3 speed on the column, or 3 on the tree. Blue is a 3200 series step side long bed truck. It’s 6 lug with the small back glass. The trucks got a little rust but worth saving for sure. We plan to LS swap Ol Blue with an aluminum block LS3 I’ve got. Tick Performance Polluter camshaft and some ported 823 rectangular port heads. Most likely a built 4L60e with a TCI 3200 stall. Lucky I found a Chevy Colorado rear end with the G80 locker and a 3.73 gear. The Colorado rear end is the perfect swap because its about 2 inches narrower and the leaf spring perches are on the bottom. Believe it or not they line up almost perfect with the leaf springs on the 57 Chevy pickup so its perfect or an axle flip to lower the rear end about 6.5 inches. Those slotted mags look so good just have to get the truck own low and it'll be perfect! The short bed conversion should be fairly straight forward and simple. Cut 9.25 inches out of the center of the frame. Then I will determine how much off the back once we set the bed and cab on. The LS swap should be simple, I am going to run a K5 blazer tank and an in line fuel pump. Holley Terminator X will control the motor and trans. I will patch all the areas that need it and then Poppys Patina clear coat the truck to preserve that awesome as found paint. Power steering conversion is also on the list along with power brakes. Disks up front retaining the 6 lug and drum will be fine on the rear. I hope yall will enjoy this build series and follow along as we build Old Blue!

You need a metal pole with loops welded on. Good for towing. Good for pushing. Needs to be ten twelve foot long. Neat old truck. Always my favourite shape truck. You going for the big build. Good luck gents. Hope it works out.

Great to see old blue in the shop. I agree about the ride height. Definitely going to be a good bit of work to get it sitting at that height. The plan is solid though. Gonna be a fun one to watch come together.

Thank you! No doubt about it, i plan to axle flip the rear and pull some leads. Should get 6.5 inches or so with that. The front is another story. 3 inch drop leafs and probably gonna have to send the axle off to get it lowered but only time will tell. Thanks for watching! 🤙

The 57 on the radiator that's exactly what that means. Now I was talking with the guy and he said he had a 57 Chevy radiator for a car. Well it turns out it's a 56. When it was a 57 Chevy radiator you want 250 bucks and it was worth it it's in great shape. Because man I know you was looking for a 57 but maybe he uses 56 right here and get you buy until you get to correct year. A rounded my total purchase up 20 bucks and we called it square. It's still sitting on the shelf. Also the rear axle at least on the cars. I've got a 57 Chevy car that says 57 POSI. YEP IT'S A 1957 CHEVY POSI UNIT. I ENJOYED THIS EPISODE BUT I DON'T KNOW IF I'D BE CALLING HER OLD BLUE OR JUST RUSTY BUT TRUSTEE. 🤣. OKAY HAVE NO FUN THERE BUT IT LOOKS LIKE A NICE TRUCK A NICE PROJECT

I just adopted the name from the man who spent 63 years with Old Blue felt like that was the best way to go. I’ve got 2 57 radiators, the one from the car and truck. I haven’t check either yet. And I’m not sure what the rear end is under the car but I hope it’s a posi. Thank you! 🤙

@@323Fabrication of course that would make great content in itself. I'm going to sell me like that that's been in the family for generations. Somewhere around the 1950s maybe just after world War ii. It's based on a 1920s 1 ton truck chassis. Thanks for sharing

Hell yeah, you are making the 57 really cool, i haven't got to the where you shorten the frame yet, you will have to take at least 2 1/4 off the rear of the frame up to maybe 2 3/4 i have seen these trucks vary up 1/2 in the rear, in my case it will be 2 1/4 , catch you on the next one

Take it from a guy who had three eye surgeries and 1/8 or 12 month period. Oh it wasn't from working on cars or anything. You know when a clamp your I literally clamp your eye. When they cut on your eye they put a buckle inside your I think of a belt buckle and they put a square bracket on your face and push it every which way. And you look like you're on the wrong end of the bulldozer for about 3 weeks after that. Protect your eyes 👀 where are your eyeglasses like you were saying

@@323Fabrication I just put that message out there for other folks who may read it. Watching yourself leaves vision in one possibly both eyes is a unique adventure I would not recommend. Although my vision was restored in that eye, 👁️ even the surgeons say that it's miraculous.

@@323Fabrication thanks 👍 makes me think back to when I was working on this 63 Chevy I've got. Back then I might have been 20 but that was about it. I just happened to take my glasses off and look up why is underneath it so I can see better because they fogged over. Well there's a beautiful girl next door and I got to meet her. And she took me to the emergency room. Well her and I didn't get any further than that 🤣🧱. How to stop like running into a brick wall. But her roommate and I were friends for a while. But man that little piece of rust in my eye really hurt 🤕. Well I did not intend to share that story but it's kind of humorous and in fact I just taken my glasses off just for a closer look. Anyway I do enjoy your show and channel. And don't take me wrong when I said Rusty but trustee. I said that by send my favorite old trucks. I didn't know the backstory or I'd forgotten it about why you called her blue. It seems very fitting.
