Welcome to this week's episode from the 'Field Of Dreams'. Lots has been happening since our last episode. We will be filling you in as to how we have been getting on with our mission to save these barn find classic cars from the scrapyard. Some cars have already made their way to ‪@AngliaCarAuctions‬ and will be in their June 2024 sale. Our focus for today's visit to the field is to get some more cars moved into position ready for collection.
As is typical for Elton and Claire, things don't go quite to plan...

While it might not be saveable, surely the Skoda would be a valuable source of parts for someone, glass doors wheels etc

A pity it's not complete. Many people would disagree, but the Skoda 130 was effectively the "final edition" of the Estelle line. They packed it with all the goodies and of course, it was a star of the old RAC rally! Back when it used to snow.

Indeed. They were exciting cars. The bad jokes they were victims of back then did them no favours, a bit like how Top Gear have trashed (or tried to trash) the Morris Marina in more recent years.

Yeah that heated rear screen was great for keeping your hands warm as you pushed it to the side of the road after the engine overheated.

Save the Skoda! They were a joke when I was a kid but they have a huge following now. On the less valuable ones just connect a tow strop to the landrover and just drag them it’s a lot quicker and easier, it will try to go sideways slightly but that’s half the fun. Great video

Wow a Škoda! My favorite car. Super rare now. Don’t scrap. 130 is worth money. Czech people would be interested in it. They have all the parts to restore it. Body seems solid.

Skoda is definitely a good parts car if nothing else. Having owned 2 imps I can see why this one is going to be difficult to move , because the back valance supports the weigh of the engine.

You hit the nail on the head Elton mate, sadly you have to have a limit and say enough is enough. I recently yanked a Hillman Minx out of boggy field which looked ok, as we winched it onto the trailer the frame started to twist, so we had to just load her up and take her to the wreckers as she was just too far gone 😥but you have to be realistic I guess. If it were me i would go for the Scimitar, MGs Etc as personally I believe they have the best chance of finding a new home. Great work though guys, cheers Bruce NZ

Save the Skoda. These were everywhere when I was growing up in the 70s, despite the jokes Skoda's were cheap motoring and I'd buy one today if I could find a good'un.

I can't understand that attitude. I have never really been a huge Ford fan. Yes, I had two Capris and three Cortinas, but I much prefer BMC/BL.

Thanks Claire, I was wondering why the mat on the winch line and could only think it was for safety and you confirmed that idea. I'm glad we don't restore cars. Not many people know better than you guys what's involved with a restoration. Some think it's a five minute job! We had one guy on Instagram tell us that we're doing this for the money and if we really wanted to save these cars, we'd restore them ourselves. All 30-ish of them.... 😂

You two are doing a great job, & most importantly to point out, work well together!! Kudos to Claire for braving the cobwebs. Kudos to Elton for braving the constant sticker bushes. Had to laugh though, @ 5:04, Elton's look at 'Put your back into it' - I couldn't help but think of those lines in James Bond Skyfall(Bond & Q..😅). Skoda may only be a parts car, but it's DEFINITELY in better shape than the poor Imp! This I think, is a good example of where to draw that line. Cheers from USA!

I get your sentiment, but it’s amazing how nature soon becomes one with a lot of man-made decay. It can be quite captivating at times, both on land and at sea.

All good work from you both but quite tricky at times. There could have been another trip in a 'big yellow taxi' for Claire at one point when she fell down a hole! All a bit dicey in that field at times. I would try and save the Skoda but the Hillman Imp might be a bit tricky with the engine hanging out like that, just depends how solid the back end is to get some support on. Anyway well done to you both for pressing on and getting them out. 👍👍

Just be glad the spiders and other creepy crawlies are not that venomous in the UK, we have to deal with brown recluses, Black widows, wolf spiders, copperheads, rattlers, cottonmouths. You were making me nervous digging underneath that Skoda. Although we don't have nettles in the US, we do have poison Ivy, and poison oak. TY for your service for saving those wonderful cars.

That’s how we like it, though. There are days when we need a hand, but we have some lovely friends for those occasions. Once we get to the cars that we can’t physically move ourselves, we’ll be calling them 😀

Old Skodas are so rare now, when did you last see one? Even with no engine its worth a few quid. Obviously not as much as if it had a Ford badge but still worth saving in my opinion

Up here in the frozen North West, the vegetation has only just exploded into life in the last two or three weeks. I kept thinking - you'd have been OK a couple of weeks ago, but that just proves this ex Southerner is now thinking like a Lancastrian. We're supposed to be moving back down South this year. With the locks up wheels try putting a scocket on the wheel nuts and hitting with a hammer might free them up

A lot of effort for a Skoda and people didn't even want them when they were new so I personally would get a couple of quid at the scrap yard for it.

I enjoyed that u guys did a great job well done my question is what happens to the cars once u get them out of there reating place so ie do u sell them on or fix them up etc, as ide love to know what happens to them after u free them.

Thanks for watching and for the question. In this case, we’re trying to get as many as possible to Anglia Car Auctions. There are a few of the ones from earlier episodes of this field find going through their June 2024 sale. We do occasionally get cars up and running, but we don’t do restorations. We don’t have the skills or the time. Our job really is to try to divert old cars away from the scrapyard 😃

I guess that would be quite surreal. It's hard to think, as with a lot of old cars, that they were once brand new in a showroom.

No plans that I know of. It’ll go back to being a fairly large garden and some of the cars will, hopefully, be saved along the way 😃

Probably a very valid reason but why didn't you tow the Skoda out driving the Landy with the Skoda attached behind ?

With no steering, it would probably just go where it wanted. That said, if the access hadn't been so tight, I'd like to try that, as you never know until you give it a go.

Why not pull it with the Landrover direct instead of using several electric winch pulls?

With the wheels locked, it wouldn’t have wiggled its way through that gap. I’d tow it in a larger space.

Ah, you mean the BRM? That was more because Claire hates being towed and, with it being downhill, I feared for my Land Rover. It’s been a part of my life way longer than she has 😂😂

IF I had a flat bed truck it would be a full bed and ramp that way there is no worries it would fall through the gap in the middle, yeah cost a few more dollars but worth it. Scrap the skoda skip

It’s more a weight issue. I do actually own a 7.5t recovery truck, which has a beautiful tilt and slide bed, but only use it for personal cars. It would probably get stuck down there, anyway 😂

Yes, I know it’s a weight issue but with aluminum checker plate it’s not that much. Just a personal preference if I was doing what you do.

With the winch, there's more control over the direction it's going and you can move inches at a time. If it was free of obstacles and all the wheels turned, I agree, a tow may well work better. And thank you 🙏🏻
