The Barn aka Overmountain Shelter was in danger of falling. It was determined not to be safe as a shelter and would therefore be torn down. During deconstruction week and after removing many of the boards it was finally pulled down on the 15th of November, 2023. A sad day for many hikers.
During the destruction process, I noticed many hiker graffiti displayed and took pictures of them. I'm not sure if these are memories now or possibly evidence! But we'll stick with memories ... since the evidence is gone.
