BARN RAISING After AMISH Farm FIRE -NEW BARNS in 6 DAYS- Lancaster County's Amish Community

Thanksgiving 2023 will not be easily forgotten for one Amish family and their neighbors. A fire broke out mid morning in the barn. It wasn't long before the barn was fully involved. The livestock was driven out as the fire spread. In less than an hour the barn and 2 attached wings were engulfed. This video though documents the spirit of the Amish community and the entire community at large. In 6 days the rubble would be cleaned up, new footers and block walls laid, and new barns erected. This video is a testament to the community spirit in Lancaster County's Amish Land.
The Fire video can be found here:

Because this was a rebuild of an existing structure and no changes were made to the footprint, no township planning or approval was required, and most townships give the permit for free or a minimal charge. Had this been an entirely new farm, the owner would have tons of red tape and the process could take a very long time to approve.

This is why I have an unending amount of repect for the Amish. They are a wonderful people. They refrain from modern convieniences to retain this level of community and humility before God. The Amish community as a whole paid for this rebuild too. They live their faith. It was nice to see English crews working too.

While they are Amish and this is how they live, the fact that so many people, with so many talents, can put their own lives and responsibilities aside to help one single family recover from what would be a devastating tragedy to most of us, speaks volumes for their lifestyle. Not only the men who came out to do the construction, but their wives and families who also sacrificed and helped in untold ways while they did the work. Its hard to wrap your mind around it.

This is amazing on many levels, I am in my 60th year as a Architectural Technician, I have never seen anything like this. First of all someone had to come up with drawings for this in the first 24 hours, you need a way to take off the materials. Where in the world do you get roof trusses of this magnitude made in three days and assembled in one? Where do you get metal cladding and roofing cut to length and delivered in four days? The effort is a testament to these amazing people. And they rested on the seventh day.

They have their own sources for some of the items like beams. Sometimes they store them on other farms just in case. I lived in Lancaster County for 25 yrs. My husband was involved with them as a produce man. He was welcomed by several Amish families to visit their farms. And had the chance to watch a barn raising after a fire. We have the utmost respect for them. Amazing and kind people.

Our son worked for the brother-in-law of the owner. They were setting up for wedding services in the loft. Gifts of appreciation for wedding waiters and assistants were lost in the fire. Video shows six days of construction, not sure if it indicated, but cows were milked in the barn that evening. And, two weeks later the wedding or reception was held in the loft.

The Amish are known for their excellent craftmanship in building & everything they do. They are the only people who come together to help those in their community when it's needed & the only ones who help their own people when tragedy hits. I'm 70 yrs old & on my own & would enjoy being part of their community however I have limited income. A GREAT JOB of excellence! Accomplishing that much needed major task of rebuilding in that short time span is hard work. To everyone helping - women & men - it's nice to see people who come together knowing they each have a job/role to do to get it done correctly.

Much like this great team of people, back in the '80s, I was part of the engineering corps in the military. Our camp, home to about 600-700 soldiers and officers, was suddenly called into action one night. We had to clean up after a severe accident: two semi trucks had collided in the countryside, not far from our camp. One was carrying fish, the other a large petrol tank. The crash had caused a fire that burned down four houses. That first night, our task was to clean up the scattered fish from the road, working alongside the fire crew who were busy putting out the house fires. Local road assistance companies helped us move and haul away the wreckage of the semi trucks. The following day, we switched to operating heavy machinery like excavators, bulldozers, and dump trucks. We worked in 8-hour shifts, clearing debris and preparing the site for reconstruction. By the second night, our focus shifted to laying down infrastructure for new houses. We worked on connecting waterlines and sewage systems to four new house lots. The concrete foundations were poured on the third day. I vividly remember working through the third night, helping to erect the walls of the new houses. In just 7-8 days, thanks to the coordinated efforts of our crew and some locals, we managed to rebuild what was lost in the accident. It was an incredible demonstration of what can be achieved in a short time with a well-organized team.

Wonderful to watch. No nail guns. (Oops, I take that back. I did notice a few.) Reminded me in a good way of the way ants and bees all work together in coordination, each with a role, for their community. So many hands at work the way it used to be. Coordinating this build, planning, figuring out who many supplies were needed and getting them on site at the right time, and directing so many workers is an amazing feat. Whoever was in charge did a fantastic job. And I noticed the huge amount of laundry hung out to dry on a line high in the air. Incredible.

Totally agree about being wonderful to watch. I too, noticed the lack of nail guns and all the other mod cons that builders use these days. What I also noticed, specially in the drone shots, was the total lack of men standing back, doing nothing or on their cell phones...everyone was on the move and doing their bit of the rebuild, without a second thought. And for those of us who might not share their religious beliefs, you have to applaud their ethics and community spirit and that includes the wives who looked after them. Such a huge team effort and thanks for posting this video. Truly inspirational!

I am totally amazed at how kind and supportive the Amish community is. I only have two questions, where are the cattle and who is caringg for them? Who is doing these builders work while they are building this barn?

They have their own saw mills and as the man said in the beginning the needs of this barn were put first , so any orders that were being worked on were put to use on this job

More like money talks. That's commercial lumber, you think some Amish sawmill had that much laying around? The metal roofing and siding? The milker company and electricians started as soon as the loft floor was completed. The silo repairs weren't shown but the silo company did that on Sunday and Monday. Rental company had equipment there the day after Thanksgiving and thru the weekend. As did the concrete company. Yep, money talks.

@@farmerbill6855The Amish don't have 'A' sawmill they have SEVERAL. They are allowed machinery as long as it is BUSINESS use sanctioned by bishops. Those rental companies likely are Amish run in that neck of the woods. You'd be surprised

@@Og-Judy they don't surprise me, I've seen them buy farm land with cash. Two old school milk cans full of cash. That's commercial, graded lumber. You think they have a block company? That's one of their concrete trucks?
