Meet Kendall and Kenzie Gentry, teen-age sisters from Henderson County who have won countless horse barrel racing titles.
In barrel racing, a rider takes a horse at full speed into a 180-degree turn around each of three barrels laid out in a clover-leaf pattern, striving for the fastest time. Don't look away when you're watching this event-winning times are about 13 seconds.
Kendall and Kenzie began competing and winning as very young girls. They trained their own horses, and are completely responsible for their care. They have also competed-and won-in the rodeo events of pole-bending and goat-tying, but barrel racing is what they enjoy the most.
You can appreciate their talents all the more when you can see it close-up from the horse's point of view. This segment features some exciting perspectives from cameras mounted on horseback-and on the barrels.

i love how everyone is criticizing these girls. like, my god, I'm sure all of you came out of the womb running barrels perfectly. everyone improves over time. it takes years upon years to become a good equestrian in any discipline. These girls clearly love their horses and their sport.

I HATE when people say Barrel Racing or any other Equestrian activity (Jumping,Pole Bending etc.) isn't a sport. It is just like one, you have to have team work, you have to trust the other half of your team(your horse) your horse has to trust you and you both try to go for the golden Glory. People who say it isn't a sport....shut up you probably don't know anything about it.

Ikr fr , like if u look up the definition of a sport it's competing against someone else , that's a sport , but unless your doing it for fun it's not , but these girls are competing and take it very serious and and pasiniote about what they do , they are doing a sport .

I "love" how people are saying 1 horse at a time. They say that they have PROJECT horses. They're in training. Barrel racing is a competition and if they're looking to win, they will ride the horse most suited for competition. They probably bring the other two as back up horses. Most, truly competitive racers will have a back-up in case the other horse is off or injured.
@themetalsewist
@themetalsewist 6 жыл бұрын
Christyn C, A lot of the time when you're competing in a small town or arena you can enter your name up to 3 times and ride 3 different horses. So they can ride 3 horses each in one night per competition and that's how those horses are considered projects. After they have the horse to maximum health and fitness they will either use him in bigger competitions or loan him out so others can use him.

These are young ladies my two daughters and no matter what anyone thinks, I am so proud of them. They are now 20 and 18 years old. Both are in college and competing in College Rodeo, along with keep top grades. And yes...Kendall finally got her "white" horse...well it's almost white!. Her new horse was voted " 2014 Ozark Regions" College AQHA Horse of the year. Since they have been 5 years old up to current, their passion has always been horses. Kenzie is now riding "Hollywood" in College rodeos and they are becoming quite a team. You go Gentry Girls....hold your head up high and never forget how hard you have worked or where you came from. Love...your mama Valerie!

Hey Nondra remember when I talk to destiny while doing liberty she has her ears back, so from my experience when a horses ears are back but not flat against the head then they are listening The signs of the horse in pain are these: Flat ears Refusal to move Avoidance Tail off the one side Tail constantly swishing but not at flies And some horses even start to act up because of pain Extremely fast reactions Over reactions most of the time And there are some other ones But I do liberty so again I'm not causing my horse this pain But I just got a go pro so I might ride to try it out 😄😄

***** Like only a 7 min ride just to stretch and keep those muscles toned a little but the go pro only had the helmet mount so yeah and they gave to me to use when I ride which I'm barely doing anymore after being told the facts but destiny loves going to shows so mabey like 3 shows a year would be fine she likes to see other horses

***** My personal opinion is that yes a bit no matter what is bad But a hack not so much but again my opinion And not all arenas and shows make use use a bit or hack some people have done it it halter but I'm yet to see one in cordeo wich I hope to accomplish 😃 And we already have 2 goats that she hangs out with so she does have a buddy But she likes going to shows she likes seeing other horses and depending on the people and horses she likes the environment too ! One time when we where at a show every time I went to visit her she would nicker at me it was so cute And what's funny unlike most people who just loosen the cinch I take off all the take between events and try to stay off her back as much as I could And I always look at the tempt to see if I should use thicker pad or use polo wraps to keep her muscles warm or if it will be warm so I don't have to use bulky padding But some people throw a bunch of stuff on the horse and the horse starts sweating really bad By doing these things am I a bad horsemen ?

These girls are an inspiration to me. I've been showing for about 5 years now and I would get discouraged because I see so many girls out on horses trained by professionals. It seems like people want to take the awards and credit for a horse trained by someone else. But, in a way, it's helped me learn to push myself harder and learn that good things never come easy and that I've formed a strong partnership with my horse because I've been the one working with them (:

I've been a barrel racer since I was three, and I've attended Charmaneye James barrel clinic. From what I've learned from Charmanye and over the years, you have to lift your horses shoulder going around the barrel. So they don't drop it and run into the barrel, the girl with the brown hair needs to lift her horses shoulder. And both of them NEED riding lessons, they're flopping around in the saddle.

Can someone please explain to me how they neck rein, like I’m confused.
@TukikoIsolde
@TukikoIsolde 3 жыл бұрын
With neck reining, the rider uses the reins to press against or touch the horse's neck to direct it in the direction they want the horse to go. Whichever side the rein touches the horse should know to move off that pressure and go away from it, ex: left rein means a horse will move right and right rein means the horse will move left.
@amy-rosepearson5895
@amy-rosepearson5895 3 жыл бұрын
@@TukikoIsolde thanks that make sense now because I do ride but I ride English and we don’t neck rein and generally have quite firm contact unlike western where they have very little to no contact and they ride completely differently. A whole new side of the equestrian sport...

Besides thoroughbreds that need to be rescued what about mustangs they're good for barrel racing 2 they're good for anything any type of work or whatever it's already or she can do so could have Mustang or just any horses being abused Lord willing pretty soon I will have my own where I could be rescuing these horses and I'm going to enter some of my Mustangs after I trained them well in the races

From what I have learned, if you kiss too much, it can become a meaningless sound to your horse...just something I noticed. Wonderful horses though, well trained in my opinion...

+Hailey Eden She is correct. You aren't suppose to look down at the barrel. You are supposed to be looking at the next barrel. I was always told " if you are looking at the ground that is where you are going to end up" It's like soccer you cant be looking at the ball , you have to be looking around at the other players. However , she did have a nice , clean fast run.

Sienna Gorsuch They're barrel horses. Running is what they do. For the most part, they don't get very hot until they're on the pattern. Some do, if they're naturally very high-strung, but those sorts of horses tend to be like that anyway.

I wouldn't train a horse to slow on the "ho" because if you ever sell him he's going to get in trouble for not stopping when his new owner says "Ho, damn it!" Same with turning, I would say, Turn. Saying "Ho" when you aren't ho-ing makes you seem inconsiderate of your horses ability to learn human language
