Barry Gibb returns to the Bee Gees' music via Nashville

Күн бұрынFor his latest album, Barry Gibb teamed up with some of Nashville's biggest stars to record "Greenfields," in which they perform some of The Bee Gees' greatest hits. The last surviving Gibb brother talked with "CBS This Morning" co-host Anthony Mason about returning to their catalogue, and about the new HBO Max documentary about the group, "The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart," which he says is too painful for him to watch.

I was a young 36 yr old dude traveling with the wind around the world in 1979. This song, the whole album, every song of it, followed me around the world. It was everywhere. It was this music that brings me back to almost everyday of that period. Listening today gives tears. John Caldwell

Much respect for him, especially when it comes to not wanting to discuss his brothers passing. I had a brother who passed 25yrs ago and one 2 months ago. The feeling doesn't go away, just hard to talk about. God bless you Sir Barry.

Yes it is hard. One of my brothers died by his own hand in the summer of 1971, when he had just turned 24 & I was 14. I've displayed his picture wherever I've lived since then. Think of him very frequently. There's always a hole in the heart.

•💟• Yes, the loss of a sibling is difficult. I was only 12 when my brother passed away, and 11 when I lost my father. It's been over 40 years, the pain doesn't go away, you get used to it and you focus on better things and you ask God to help carry the burden and sustain you, which He does with love, compassion, tenderness, mercy and Grace. •💟•

I just spoke to Barry by phone last March. He is the most humble down to earth person that anyone could ever imagine.

@Peter Johnson - The conversation was about a very good lifelong friend of mine who was in an ICU unit at a local hospital with cancer and several other severe health issues right as the pandemic was getting worse. We had grown up together and he was always being told how he looked just like Barry. Without naming anyone; someone passed my phone number along to Barry about this story. I received a call from Barry one day and we spoke about what was going on and Barry asked if he could speak with him. Later that evening I went to the hospital and called Barry. My friend had lost his voice because of the tubes that had been used to drain fluid from his lungs so I held the phone to his head while on speakerphone as Barry spoke to him and he mouthed his response which I would then relay to Barry. As bad as his condition was, I could tell that he was in disbelief that he was actually speaking with Barry. Several people were there in the room, including his wife, who were also in disbelief. I felt that there was a good chance that he wouldn't survive so the call meant a lot to me as well. A couple of weeks later he did in fact pass away.

I admire Barry. He and his brothers were wonderful together. Music has been his life. I think he is honoring them and I just know he misses and loves them. I am sure when he performs he feels so close to them. I respect that he has. Stayed married to Linda all this time and how he is such a great dad to his kids. I love their music.

What a genuine guy he turns out to be. Not many people who spent so much time as a superstar can retain their humanity the way Barry has. It's touching to hear him talk about his brothers with such tenderness after all these years. And the people who joined him on this album are some of the people I most admire on today's music scene: Dave Cobb, Dave Rawlings, Jason Isbell, Dolly Parton, Sheryl Crow, and others. It means something when artists like them want to play on your record. Good on you, Barry.

God bless you Barry! You’ve gone through the Life’s hardest challenges.. to loose your closest loved ones . In 6 years I lost my Dad, my son, and my Mom.. loosing my 23 year old son has been the most gut wrenching pain I’ve ever experienced! You are right Barry when you say you learn a lot .. loosing 3 brothers who are your best friends.. terrible sad loss.. but we move on and keep them close in our hearts !

The Bee Gees are very underrated. Not only were they a great group, they were also writing a large number of the great hits performed by other artists for decades. I love lifelong musicians. I want to be one. You can never be too old to participate and make great music. So many legends on this album but Dolly Parton still singing so beautifully and recording new music makes me very happy. Happy to see Barry still making music. I think it's the happiest pursuit.

Barry Gibb is the Greatest Singer of all time. He is also the greatest songwriter of all time. Listen to the title song from Grease the movie. He wrote that song. My Favorite songs of his that I listen to all the time are Night Fever, Jive Talkin and Staying Alive. Hey Taylor Swift you want to make legendary status, you need to team up with this man. In my mind you’re always be second Banana until you team up with this guy. I glad all these singers are making this album with him because that shows how much respect they have for him.

Their documentary was one of the best I've seen. It was Amazing and I learned so much about them. I've always been a fan but never knew an indepth deep dive of their history. Their song writing skills are bar none. And to think disco music tried to take them out SMDH. God bless Barry and their music will last until the end of time. ❤❤

If you're going to use the term "musical icon" when describing particular writers and performers, I believe that Barry Gibb and his brothers deserve those words before their names. And although I don't know Barry, when you watch and listen to him talk about his brothers, his past, and his hopes for the future, you can feel his vulnerability and his true sentiment, almost as if you are friends with him, or you wish you were, and to me, that's the mark of genuine human being. And despite this vulnerability, we see a man whose music has made so many people happy over the years, and isn't that the ultimate goal of a singer/songwriter? I smiled wide when he said he might tour again, "If people want me too. I want to be wanted." Barry, if you're reading this (ha!), please believe me when I say, you are very much wanted, now even more than ever. And your legion of fans are ready to buy the tickets as soon as you announce that tour.

You can see he speaks from the heart. I believe this is the man that he really is. Nothing fake about him. It makes a man that is already such a talent even more pure gold. Few are real anymore. All the special tools used to make vocals perfect Barry never needed. Neither did his brothers. This is true talent!

God add the years to his life. We love him I know how he feels with the loss of his brothers . I lost one of my.brothers , my dad , At a young age. Griefing sometimes takes , it's getting through loss and getting to the point to heal , then to embrace the memories of something like for barry Gibb having such special memories with his brothers , the great thing is there legacy they built will go on forever in his heart. AND BARRY YOU ARE NEVER alone because your brothers are with you everyday, in spirit and they are with you everytime you step out on that stage , your brothers are there in.spirit right there with you. Believe that it's TRUE. Never stop what your doing Barry Gibb. Please let there spirit live a new life in you it is time . I always get😥tears when Barry talks about his brothers that is so very hard when dear loved ones pass away. He is strong to get up on stage to sing without his beloved brothers. Must feel so strange to not have them near after so many years together on stage. They were all such handsome men with unique voices. Barry still looks good and going strong.

This interview shows how much he misses his brothers and how he still wants that connection to the music. So glad he still wants to make new music and perform for people. I understand why he doesn't want to see the documentary. I just watched last night. Excellent. I was left in tears at the end. I hope he gets the chance to tour again. Sir Barry is a class act.

Barry Gibb you are truly getting us stayin alive with music in 2021. I was only a teenager when I first heard "To Love Somebody" on the radio. I never got my children to appreciate the creatively of your work until now. Today after 54 years, my daughters are singing the song with me.

@@azodo88 Yes, you are correct. I was in the nosebleed seats with my friend Debbie. I was screaming at the top of my lungs! I was yelling Robin’s name when he was onstage with Maurice and Barry. I have a very fuzzy picture from the concert and I cherish it, because it looks like Robin is looking up and can hear me yelling his name! I will have to look for my ticket stub again for the exact date of the show. Thank you for your question and reply. Will get back to you soon😊.

Driving from Oakland to Long Beach, ca this morning I decided to play the BEE GEES on my Spotify app. As, I listened to the first 20 songs, I was like "DAMM IT" 20 Hit songs in a row!!!! I understand where Barry is coming from. I've just lost my dad couple a weeks ago. I just can't watch a picture of him at the moment because of memories not wanting to relive the pain of losing him. Stay strong barry. Take care.

I feel honored to have lived through the whole disco era, saturday nite fever era, which of course the BeeGees's were at the top of all that. The good old days, then on to the 80s, also good old days. That's about it. I dont think i will ever appreciate much that happened in music from the 90s on.
