She gets completely overlooked because of how great and funny her male leads and co-stars perform, but for my money she was the best actor of the bunch. She also received a lot of hatred for her character in part because of how (intentionally) frustrating her character is.

Her performance as Sally is one of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen in any TV show. There are countless examples of how authentic and highly nuanced her acting is throughout the show but one of my favorites (as you already pointed out in the vid) is when she kills the biker in season 3. She conveys shock and trauma in a way that makes you feel like she legit killed someone for the very first time. Also her meltdown in the elevator could’ve felt very over the top or melodramatic in the hands of a lesser actress but due to the great writing and how genuinely intense her emotions are, it feels very plausible that that’s exactly how her character would react in the show and even in real life if Sally actually existed.

She really deserves a golden globe. She has been incredible in this show. You really fall for her in the beginning only to slowly feel so sorry for her. And Sarah evokes it all out of you with precision

Sally's eyes and eyebrows always make me feel anxious, which is what i really love about her performance. Even when she seems really happy about something, there's still this sense of doubt on what she actually feel. One thing i notice about her character is that she have a passion to be seen and appreciated. Which sadly it rarely happened. And it's a sad parrarel that her dream of becoming a famous actress and having many people knowing and loving her, end up turn into having to hiding from the public

Sally gets too much hate (her character is clearly not to be likeable but relatable but still) The actress that plays her SLAYED every time she was on screen - I couldn't help but find myself grinning ear to ear with her or feeling enraged when she did because of how stellar her emotions were and how captivating her performance. I think the men in the show get more credit because of how infuriating Sally could be as a person, but man was she fricken PHENOMENAL

@@RagnarokMic I just don't quite care for how people hate Sally far more than the other characters, but somehow Barry or Fuches etc aren't hated as equally bc the reason Sally is hated is based more (not always cuz she does effed up stuff too) off her erratic personality rather than heinous actions such as blatant murder but yes Sarah deserves all the awards and love bc holy shit she brought that girl to life

@@oneinamalonereads This happens in every single TV show. The female characters are always hated 100x more than the male characters. Breaking Bad was a show full of rapists and murderers, but Skyler was the most hated character because she... nagged her husband? I still don't understand why everyone hates Sally, to be honest.

She has done some of the most incredible acting I’ve ever seen She really nails what it’s like to traverse this industry when no one is in support of your acting career except yourself. I’ve been doing this thing for 5 and a half years now and have felt and experienced most of what she’s portrayed on screen as Sally. She is absolutely Epic.

People don't hate Sarah, they hate Sally.' Sarah is amazing and hit it out of the park. Sally is a narcissistic user that only ever seems concerned to the degree of what can be done for her. Maybe it's a defense mechanism built after her years of abuse, but it certainly didn't make her likable as a person, and she doesn't have much personality to top it off. She's not a monster like Barry or Noho Hank, but that was the beauty of Barry, including Sally and Gene to show different shades of shitty people, though by the time we meat Gene he's put his worst habits behind him (but can never let go of his vanity).

If Kim Wexler was an “anti-Skyler” character, then Sally is the “anti-Kim Wexler”. She did everything opposite to what Kim did, albeit sharing some aspects of her character with Kim.

can you elaborate on that a little more? it's a very interesting comparison
@nont18411
@nont18411 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoe-xf8ew Common things they did: - Having a not so nice relationship with their mom. - Running away for a while and changed their hair color into brunette. The differences: - Kim ran away FROM Jimmy. Sally ran away WITH Barry. - Kim stopped her conning behavior altogether after the exodus but Sally was still longing for the past and committed violence as a way to vent frustration on said past (choking a guy to make herself feel triumphant after being an abuse victim for so long). - Kim never had a kid with Jimmy. Sally had John with Barry. - Kim told Jimmy to turn himself in but once Jimmy called her out that she’s a huge hypocrite and should turn herself in for her crimes too, she did and the civil lawsuit still has effect on her until these days. Sally told Barry to turn himself in but since Barry never call her out about how she killed a man, Sally never turn herself in like Kim did so she gets away with it. She also never try to help Gene despite it’s a thing she told Barry to because she knows that if she did, Gene would be out of jail, the truth about her running away with Barry will come out and her acting career will be over. Gene being locked up for life with the fake truth about Barry being a national hero means her acting career remains intact. Which, for me, albeit makes Sally way less likable than Kim, it makes her a lot more real. I don’t believe one bit that a level-healed morally righteous super calm and composed Kim Wexler would be the one orchestrating the destruction of Howard’s life out of spite. I, however, fully believe that an abuse victim emotional trainwreck Sally would do something very crazy like running with Barry and had a kid with him for 8 years.

Excellent video as always! My favourite and most memorable Sally Reed scene that highlights Sarah Goldberg's talent as an actor is the MacBeth scene from season 1 episode 7. In this scene, Sally asks Barry to give her something she can work with on stage but it seems like he's unable to do that. So, Sally goes out to deliver a monologue as Macbeth and it's quite flat. It's way better than most people could do, but it is lacking. Meanwhile, Barry is backstage dealing with murdering his friend and when it's time for him to walk on stage to tell MacBeth that the queen is dead, he's emotional and very raw. Sally responds to Barry's delivery by transforming her performance into something subtle, layered, and evocative. This is the most memorable Barry scene for me because it showcases Sarah Golberg's absolute mastery of acting, providing side-by-side examples for the audience of average and next-level acting.

One thing I love about Sally is how she consistently struggles with the “inciting incident” that signals the beginning of the end - her performance in the theater about her abusive ex-husband, Sam. She tells Barry how he hit her and physically dominated her, leaned over her and made her feel small. We see Sam do this in the hotel room scene to try to reinforce this old power dynamic when he fails to convince her not to do the show about him. She is visibly anxious and begins to shrink in that scene, but instead just leaves the hotel room, regaining some dignity. Then she performs it and it starts to set her life up for success. Fast-forward to season 3, and we get to the scene where Barry comes to Sally’s set to ask for her help in getting Gene a role in her show, Joplin. She says she can’t help him, and Barry EXPLODES on her, scaring everyone else in the room. And what does he do? He physically intimidates her, cornering her with his arm up against the wall, just as Sam did before. He leaves, and instead of immediately realizing how fucked up the whole situation is, she makes excuses for Barry’s rage (he just had a bad day) and APOLOGIZES to Barry later, just like she would apologize to Sam after he would beat her. Here, she sadly re-embraces some of her trauma and normalizes it. And then it all culminates in the elevator scene with Natalie. Sally explodes on her, insulting her and, what do you know, putting her arm up on the wall of the elevator to corner Natalie, just like she has been cornered most of her life (or at least she’s felt that way). And that is the moment Sally never truly comes back from. At that point in the show onward, Sally is a different person, now wearing the shame of the oppression she fought against. She loses. Even at the very end of the show, I know she is still struggling with her feelings of being trapped and inferior. It’s a wonderfully sad character who miraculously doesn’t die or have serious consequences for their actions like almost every other main character.
