2. What are the 45s?
3. I like the chorus. The chorus is totally lit.

"If I should love again" is a beautiful song too, written by Barry himself when he was on tour. He rarely writes when he is on tour, but he had this rented house , with a bay window to the sea and he put this piano they gave him to the bay window and got inspired. Wow!

Let me suggest “Somewhere Down the Road”. It was released on the same year as “The Old Songs”; and in my opinion, is a great follow-up to this latter one.

Love Barry Manilow's songs. This was a good one. He's talking about old songs on 45 vinyl records. Good one Jay.

This is one of the few Barry songs that has a real video for it . Check it out if you can, it’s pretty good. David Pomeranz is the same guy who wrote Tryin To To Get The Feeling Again, and it has a similar feel to it. A 45 is a single record…. Small record with a big hole in the middle. It has 1 song on each side. It’s played at 45 RPMs (revolutions per minute). This was the most common way we used to buy music. When a new song came out on the radio, kids ran to the record store to get a copy. This was how artists made a good deal of their income back in the day. An LP (long playing) album is larger and is played at 33 RPMS. It can have 5-6 songs per side. Some of the earlier records were played at 78 RPMS. The evolution of how music has been recorded over the years is pretty fascinating…

The great thing about barry is that he sounds great live. it's hard to tell the difference between a studio cut and live performance.

Back on the day, even rough and tumble teenaged boys admitted to liking him. This one is so sweet. I haven’t listened to all your assessments, but ‘Ships’ by him is an awesome and haunting song. Thank you.

The old 45s refers to a type of record. Before there were cassettes and, later, CDs, music was recorded on records which were played on record players which had turntables. These records played at different speeds: 33 1/3 rotations per minute (aka 33 RPM). These usually were albums (aka collections). Then, there were single-song records. These were either 78s: 78 rotations per minute (aka 78 RPM), or 45s: 45 rotations per minute (aka 45 RPM). These last two had only one song on each side, and the 45s were usually smaller than the 78s. Hope this clarifies. Meantime, continue enjoying your favorite music, and God bless.

Love Barry. I have been lucky enough to see him in concert twice. LOL, 45’s are vinyl records usually with the hit on one side and a lesser known song on the other. I still have all my Barry vinyls, plus many more.

hey jay. here is the breakdown of vinyl records. 100 yrs ago 2 sided records were released on 10" and where played at 78rpm late 40s came the 45rpm 7 in records- w/2 songs one on each side and were used in jukeboxes. 45s are still made today. one is abba's single i still have faith in you . so they have been around for 75 yrs. 45s can have either a small center hole like an lp or a larger hole which needs an adaptor placed on your turntable to play the 45 . . usually import 45s have a larger hole. if there is more than 2 songs on a 45 it is called an ep for extended play . when the 70s came 12" singles were released and were extended versions of the single. usually played in disco.dance clubs. then of course lps (long play)which came out a yr or 2 after the 45 i think in 1948. capitol.decca and rca were the first labels to issue 45s and lps

Great evaluation Jaybriel ; I just watched it! In the 70’s music was recorded-on and sold in black vinyl discs (records). 45’s were 7” diameter vinyl records played at 45 RPMs usually reserved for single songs and could hold 5 minutes of music per side. Music albums were usually recorded on 12” diameter vinyl discs LPs (“Long Play”) that were played at 33 1/3 RPMs and could hold around 22 min of music per side. I included a Wikipedia link that goes into more detail. Keep up your great work! J.E. Rivera en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phonograph_record

45s are small albums played at 45rpm Typical sized vinyl is played at 33 1/3 rpm to get the correct pitch 45s are smaller usually singles Record labels put 45s out to promote hit singles and usually the B side are lost cuts /deep cuts Every once in a while the B side would also be or become a hit They were also used in many jukeboxes Seeburg models and others They were also bigger thicker albums back in the 1940s and 50s that were played at 16 RPMs and then there was smaller ones played at 78 RPMs Some great chords in that song suddenly dropping in the minor IV and minor V The step up key change at the end got your attention lol

Barry loves those step up key changes. Ya know I always wanted to play a song on a juke box when I was a kid but my mom never let me. Now I can’t find juke boxes anywhere.

Yes, 45s are about 7 inches across and only had one song on each side! Many teens had a record player the size of a an old hairdryer, hmmm, a portable typewriter,... hmmm all my references are ancient too!😂...about the size of a Canon home printer.

Used to be a big Manilow fan...Not so much, anymore. "The old 45's" are the smaller singles with an "A-side & B-side" and played at 45 RPM. The bigger albums were played at 33 RPM.

45 rpm on a (vinyl) record player... too young to know that. The singles were on small records A and B sides. The larger long playing albums were 33 1/3 rpm speed. You had to adjust the speed on the turn table, depending on the record.
