In the 90s Japanese motorcycle manufacturers were developing faster, more powerful and more sophisticated sports bikes every year. But in total Honda Fashion, they decided to build one of the oddest little bikes in motorcycle history: The cub EZ90

I can see immediately why it failed, its not street legal. If it had been, it would have been a runaway success like the later fat wheeled semi off road Piaggio Typhoon was in Europe in the late 90's. Off road only bikes is already a niche, so this is a Honda niche of a niche. So no shit it didn't sell. This was a failure of understanding the real demographics of who would buy this. A teenager who might occasionally taste dirt with it.

If they put lights on it I feel like it might have sold better, that's at least one of the reasons the older CT series worked so well. You could cruise around the roads and then hit up the trails. You could go just about anywhere legally, especially if you lived outside a city. I remember that was one of the problems I faced with my '77 XL75, the previous owner had taken the lights off it, so I couldn't go on main roads without the police giving me problems. But my friends with their CT70 and ST90 could just cruise wherever as long as they didn't drive like maniacs.

I remember seeing one for the first time at a Honda dealership back in the early 90's. It was quite futuristic looking and really cool. The rounded and fully covered look was extended to a lot of the equipment too such as the mowers and rototillers. The Honda stuff just looked lightyears beyond everything I had seen as a teenager. I later in life began to appreciate how well built Honda stuff is. Thanks for the nostalgia.

I had 2 EZ90 Cubs in the mid 90's. I cut a flat track in my backyard, half in the woods, half not. My buddy and I used to rat race the Cubs for hours, pushing each other out of corners and kicking each others into the woods. We each weighed over 250 pounds so we obviously exceeded their intended weight capacity, but nothing ever broke. I had more fun on those little bikes than any bikes I've ever owned. I wish I'd never sold them.

I have a Honda CT 125 Trail bike, and I love it, but I had no idea they made this. Just asked my BF about it because he knows all about Hondas and has a Honda Super Cub, but this is pretty cool. No shifting required! I have semi-atuo, and it made it easier to learn with just using a foot. 4 up, 4 down no hand. 😊

I used to watch this show in the early 90s that had kids racing on these. I was born in 84 so it was right up my alley at that age. Sadly, as a poor city kid it was never a possibility for me to have one. I still love them just because of that. Anyone remember that show? It could have been a Disney or Nickelodeon show.

These were super popular back in the day as raceday pit bikes. Loved them.

Honda has always had unique bikes & ATV's as far as I can remember. They had that Cub and a dirt bike with ATV tires called the Fat Cat. They had the Odyssey which became the Pilot. And even now they have a cool scooter called the Ruckus. If this Cub were street legal, it would have been a cool little thing to put around on.

Sounds like they took the drive train of their ubiquitous (in Japan) 50 cc scooters, comprising a 2-stroke motor + centrifugal CV belt-drive transmission, typically mounted on the swing arm, and moved it to the frame of this cute little trail bike. It must have been pretty cheap to bring to market. Looks like a lot of fun.

I had one, it was a HSC CUB and it was a beast! It stript my rear sprocket to a wave in less than 3 month, it took 4 liters of fuel in only 30minutes of having fun. But it was near impossible to lock as it had solid wheels. Mine was the blue white red version and I am sad I do not have it anymore😫 it was very heavy on the front but still had to be careful not to open the throttle to fast as it has more than once caused some damage to “ objects” in my way😎

It would be interesting to see a video about South America's most famous motorcycle: The Honda CG150, also known as Titan. It's one of the best motorcycles the world needs to know.

@@LarsaXL It's a brasil-made motorcycle that started all the way back in the 70's under the name CG125. It was built for college students who wanted a cheaper alternative to the bigger bikes of the time, but could still get them to places quickly. It was snappy, easy to control and extremely economical in gas. They still make them today, with the newest model being 160cc.

Awesome. That's exactly the kind of bike I like. If they were available in Europe I might buy one. A Honda Grom is probably the closest we'll get though. I currently ride a 50cc scooter around town, though it would be nice to find something a bit faster and highway capable so I could get rid of my car. @@GabStLaurent
