I'm Romanian from Voivodina & this definitely has correct Romanian tonal characteristics for the violin. I've heard several versions that were unbelievably off, but this is one of the better versions.

asherasator, i do not contest your judgment but i believe Janine Jansen was the best and you cannot count her in your list of unbelievably offs. Kindly re-try to listen to her and may be you will have a different view.

Teddy They said this version is ONE of the better versions, meaning there’s a couple others they think is good. Jansen could possibly be under the better ones

I have been listening to this recording for years. A quality that I haven't heard on any other rendition of this piece. It gives me hope for the new generations of performers and stands against the silly notion of "they don't make them like this anymore."

Holy Kow! Delicate touch. Bartok done got my attention when I was 10 years old - Isaac Stern's performance of the violin Concerto in D. But That seemed all angles and really exotic harmonies, and percussive aggression upon the instrument... well a lot.. I played some of those melodies as a kid, simpler arrangements, but Ms. Lark has made these come to life and open up whole new vistas. THANKS!

Tessa, Tessa , Tessa. This is indescribably beautiful. So much so that my head has exploded and bits of my brain have exploded and gone all over the room where I keep my laptop. In the morning I'm going to have to pick them all up and take them to the local hospital so that the surgeons can screw them back in. I love it millions of times over. xxxxx The gentleman is a wonderful pianist too.

Tessa, we've never met and I never heard your stuff before until now but this is such an underrated performance--great work! The subtleties in your phrasing, emphasis, even ornamentation are outstanding and on point. In addition to that, the way you embody the full capacities of the bow and instrument when it's time to lay into the strings and maintain brilliance with strength in the sound is probably the best I've heard for all the renditions I've listened to yet. I can only imagine how awesome it would have sounded in the hall, what a treat! Congrats and great work to you and your accompanying Pianist too. edit: for what it's worth I've been living under a rock or in the wilds of other music when it comes to folks in the classical world over the past 10+ years or so but my comments still stand.

Loved this reminds me of cousin Jerry who played the violin now passed How I long to see him again and hear His beautiful music. He too had beautiful expressions on his face as he played the instrument of his heart. As I went from watching to listening I gazed out my window and noticed the strong winds that had whipped up the waves on our beautiful lake. I could imagine myself at first listening to a winter storm gradually coming to a head and then it seemed like all hell broke loose as the music turned from sadness to a happy jaunt of playing in the water! thank you for sharing!
