Bas fell prey to the propaganda that Israel “is attacked 24/7“. Actually, Israel is the one attacking others 24/7, especially defenseless Palestinians whose land they steal and occupy. Also, most of their oppression is with high tech weaponry provided by the US. Physical confrontations using Krav Mag are relatively rare. They may beat up a Palestinian the same way George Floyd was beat up by armed cops. Thats not a “fight”, but cowardly oppression against defenseless people.

+Ibrahim Khan (Khan6831) that's because it's not designed for sport. It's a self-defense system for the street and one that brings in techniques from a multitude of other martial arts. If you use it in it's truest essence, in competition, you'll get disqualified because it isn't bound by rules. And no, you're not going to become batman studying it for a year or 2. Maybe not even after 4 or 5 years of study. Mastering the discipline is the same as mastering any other fighting art or discipline in life, it takes years upon years of practice, consistency, and experience. Probably 10 years atleast. Most likely, it'll be wise to study other forms of fighting to compliment it depending on your own fighting style and unique set of physical attributes...but then again, that applies to any martial art.

It's obvious that in the perspective of a MMA fighter, Krav Maga is mainly useful as complement for specific situations against armed or multiple opponents in a street fight. I don't think any reasonable Krav Maga instructor would tell you that Krav Maga prepares average people to handle well trained MMA, Kickboxing or Ju-jutsu fighters. Krav Maga was developed in a time where most people didn't train martial arts and te main goal behind it was to provide a basic form of military MMA training for Israelite soldiers and covert agents. Now it's practiced by average people around the world who are just looking for a simple and efficient form of self-defense against non-trained opponents (which are the majority in most cases). It's efficiency obviously depends on how hard an average person trains it and the quality of its instructor in terms of street awareness, knife/gun fighting, striking and grappling skills. Basically, one can say that the average dedicated Krav Maga student is like a MMA rookie, but more prepared for knife/gun fighting situations and specific street scenarios (fighting inside night clubs with bottles being thrown around, inside a car or a bus, etc). Conclusion: Comparing Krav Maga with sports MMA is like comparing Economics with Entrepreneurial Management. They're both related and both complement each other.

I did KM for 10 years, it was pretty cool, BUT, thereafter I went into full contact martial arts, mainly Muay Thai and Kyokushin Karate, and here I learned to become used to actual fighting. These are quite different from KM where you don't really do full contact proper fighting for minutes at a time. In KM we did a form of sparring but it's not a replacement for full on fighting.I suspect some KM clubs in Israel do full contact fights, which is what you want if you are truly to know yourself as a fighter.Without full contact fighting you cannot develop the ability to a) get used to being hit b) get used to staying calm whilst in a tense fight c) truly know how your body needs to move when in a proper fightPeople who have never done full contact will tend to over estimate their abilities. For example a common refrain is to think some super knockout strike will be 100% effective, it wont, you can give some people your best strike and they will shrug it off / avoid it

I trained in both for a while but eventually went into full time MMA training. Krav teaches you the very basics of Boxing, Thai and Jiu Jitsu. Decided just to join an MMA gym and get the proper training from each discipline. I loved the mindset of Krav Maga like teaching awareness of surroundings and weapons self defence but I think in a straight up fight the MMA fighter takes it all day long.

+Chris Roy Like you said, Krav Maga is a great starter for people who don't want to fight in competitions and such. It's more of a system based on application of already used techniques that have been developed by other martial arts. You start off learning simple moves to situations that will Most likely happen to you (average joe) if you get attacked by some guy. Higher belt curriculums in Krav teach more advanced techniques such as Judo throws, Ax kicks, Jumping Spinning Back kick. Imi himself never claimed to invent the techniques, merely took from other Arts what looked most applicable to the streets and put them together.

+Chris Roy i agree. also alot of people mistake krav for hand to hand, when what seperates it from every other martial art is its weapon defense. like active shooter situation i would rather know krav any day then mma. and i would also rather have a gun then just krav too but yeah. my buddy trained so much at a krav gym he became an instructor for basic classes there, he had videos of him fighting other guys in the gym full force like they would both agree to fight and he would win he got pretty good at the rudimentary form of fighting liek you were talking about ill call it brawling; i ended up fighting him i just trained jitsu and ended up triangling him 3x, not because he wasnt good i as just able to bring him into my world and new so much more about it then the basic things he was taught in krav.

+kappa couldn't agree more. Sport martial arts don't have the street techniques, but like you said, you can't practice eye gauges and groin kicks in full contact anyway, so what's to stop the sports fighter from doing those things to you? He'll be a better fighter from having tested his sports techniques in full contact, and his kick to the groin will hurt just as much.

That just like saying Wing Chun is useful if you have the right trainer and not a single Wing Chun guy can tell you who a great trainer is. BJJ was designed to deal with street fighting and it can be complimented with good boxing or Muay Thai. Krav Maga is essentially useless.
@kain7513
@kain7513 Жыл бұрын
@@mrt445 Krav Maga is definitely useless but bjj is useless without wrestling or judo. If you can't get the fight to the ground there are only so many ways to avoid the inevitable. There is no one style that can handle anything. There are only pragmatic fundamentals that can be taken from each style. Krav Maga of course isn't one of those styles. Bjj obviously is but by itself it invites a plethora of strikes with no alternative to getting a concussion. The flying arm bar, standing guillotine , and rear naked choke are the only skills that seem to work standing up. Pulling guard isn't exactly ideal so most bjj schools have adopted sweeps and throws from judo to implement there bjj.
@mrt445

@@kain7513 Everyone is mixing martial arts these days and with BJJ you only need a small amount of wrestling or Judo, which is now a compulsory part of BJJ, personally I think Roman Greco and BJJ are the best mix. Question: how do you train for real life, self defense situations without going full speed?
@TheThundertaker
@TheThundertaker 7 ай бұрын
That is certainly the best way of preparing to fight your way out of trouble, but there are other factors to consider: how do you deal tactically with a situation dealing with multiple opponents? People with weapons? Its not neccessarily about fighting them but being able to safely extracate yourself from that situation as well as de-escalate etc. For some people, just knowing the basics of 'the fence' is enough to deter some people from attacking because the sucker punch non-trained fighters often rely on isn't going to work as well for them. There is also the matter of what if someone is less physically able to go 'full speed' and do all the hard sparring that is the best way to get tough and learn how to fight. Not everyone can do that, but that doesn't mean that anything that falls short of that is useless. For some people that is the best they will be able to do with their limitations and it will be good enough for dealing with people who aren't trained fighters or hardcore thugs. Good krav instructors will encourage their students to cross train, and then use their higher level fighting skills to put those skills into a context focused on self defence rather than pure fighting. @@cleanremarks

Agreed. Gotta cross train. The biggest difference I see with self defense and MMA is the element of surprise. MMA or sparring, my partner or opponent knows we're in a fight. Self defense- someone approaching me in a threatening manner, I don't want them to know I have any knowledge of fighting until the attack is on them. Then its unleash with overwhelming force and finish them in less than 10 seconds. This is why you don't see a lot of traditional arts work in a cage- its not designed for that. That said, I believe sparring and grappling are incredibly important for your development- static techniques that focus on groin strikes, throat hits, gouges, limb destruction, they are great- but you also need to know what its like getting hit and having to fight someone in order to make that stuff work.

Mixed Krav Maga of Mt Olive NJ I do both krav maga and mma. Both are great as a street selfdefence. But krav maga is just a little bit better in the details. The details are for example that my reflex in a fight with mma skills could be; oke just go to the ground, i feel comfortable here and i will control you. But in krav maga you learn that he could have friend who will kick the shit out of you so you learn to get away from the ground (and possibly destroy your enemy while doing it) and get away. Thats just a little example of a mma habbit that could be neggative in a streetfight. But in krav maga you also learn to be aware of your surroundings. Where are exits, are there possibly more attackers etc. For me krav maga is pure selfdefence and mma is sport. Nothing beats a good bjj session.

+Mixed Krav Maga of Mt Olive NJ I have done both with extremly good teachers from both branches. And it's exactly as Bas says. Krav is exellent in dirty street fight techniques and selv defence against weapons. Defence against knife is something of the most usefull thing you can learn. But if there is a hand to hand fight between a krav guy and a mma guy. The mma guy would win.
@Markuden
@Markuden 8 жыл бұрын
Joe Normal that is partly true. one on one (especialy in a cage) the mma would win (same skills etc) BUT... this is a big but, a mma guy isnt trained for street situation of multiple attackers and getting away etc. And the chance of multiple attackers on the street is really big.

The best way to train for an unarmed 1 vs 1 fight, is to fight against a high class fighter. It is not really important if there are rules or not but rather it's up to the way u train and practice your stuff.. Both is great (have done both for years).MMA is great in terms of an unarmed fight. I mean, dirty fighting is good but most of time neither necessary nor the best decision. In Krav Maga we train for street situations that might happen and we train our "tactic"(which is very drifferent to mma). The great thing is that they do not contradict each other but rather use similair "supply systems" what makes the combination easier and better.

Sorry, Bas: you're wrong. In order to learn to fight, you have to FIGHT--you need full speed, full contact sparring and you don't get that in Krav Maga. I always feel that people who say 'MMA guys would beat Krav guys' are kind of missing the point. I mean, of course they would. Krav is mainly meant to get yourself out of a dangerous situation, either by de-escalating the situation or by countering an attack and then getting the hell out of there after throwing at most three punches and a kick to create an opening to run. It's not meant to lead to a prolonged fight, and if you do end up in one, you're basically fucked, especially if it's against multiple people. MMA, by contrast, is meant to be used in prolonged fights. Escaping isn't the object, but defeating your opponent within a specified rule set is. You're always in open combat, and always focused on the one person you're fighting. If you put practitioners of both in a room and tell them to fight, then probably the person who's always training for just such a situation is going to come out on top. All of that said, I'd rather not get into a fight with either a well-trained MMA fighter or a well-trained Krav practitioner. Either would demolish me.

As with all Martial Arts, make sure the school you're looking into is legitimate. Some things to watch out for are these: #1They don't let you try out for free, #2 They encourage you to beat your attacker after he/she is unconscious/incapacitated (which then legally makes you the attacker), #3 They encourage you to stay and "teach them a lesson" even after you can get away, #4 You never spar (ask the instructor about it before deciding) or spar dangerously, #5 Most or all of the high-ranking students (Red Belt or above) have very sloppy strikes which the instructor never corrects, and/or can't teach them to strike correctly, #6 They encourage "flashy" and/or impractical techniques and strategies for self defense. Lastly #7 They either do not exercise/ very rarely exercise, or they do very dangerous exercises like jumping squats when they know the student has bad knees hips "suck it up wimp!" ect, won't let students take a break when they have asthma, heart problems ect. If this doesn't apply to the school you attend, then you might have a good one. But there are other things to watch out for. The biggest question is *Will this school get you to where you want to be?*

I've trained some time in systema and some time in Krav Maga. It depends on what your goal is. If you want something simple that you could use effectively after just a few months of training against a common street attacker - then Krav Maga is better. If you are willing to invest a few years of training, to gradually become effective even against highly skilled opponents - then Systema is better. Krav Maga drills you with specific movements against common attacks. Systema teaches you not specific movements, but principles, of how to breath and how to move, to effectively disable the opponent. I would recommend starting with Krav Maga so you have all the basics to really defend yourself. It's very straight forward. Then, if you want to develop even beyond, I would check out Systema.

There's always some new fresh trend in martial arts and there are always unscrupulous cheats who are willing to take advantage of stupid people trying to follow a trend. For the last 5 years or so, there have been Krav Maga schools popping up all over the place here in the US, and most of them totally suck and are completely phony. Most of them are on par with Rexkwondo from Napoleon Dynamite. 30 years ago, it was all about ninjas and ninjitsu, then 5 years later, kickboxing/muay thai become the hot thing with all of Van Damme's movies, then came Seagal and all of the sudden everyone starts taking Aikido, then UFC came out and Gracie kicked the shit out everyone and Juijitsu was all the rage. Then it finally dawned on people, no one technique is superior to others, all have their strong points and weak points, so people just used what worked and MMA was born. However, from the way people describe Krav Maga it almost sounds more like a women's self-defense course at the YMCA, people clawing at eyes, kicking each other in the crouch, open hand strikes so don't have to break a nail while making a fist, using a purse as a weapon, that sort of thing. I've even seen so-called Krav Maga schools reselling the same old debunked bullshit martial arts crap like pressure point attacks, chi moves, death blows and other phony super power movie garbage. Make sure to thoroughly research the credentials of any school before giving them any money.

There are some ways to train that are effective and produce good results, and others where you can spend decades and not actually get very good. I agree there isn't a known "best technique" for all situations (or else that would be the only technique anybody sensible ever practices), but there are definitely good and bad ways to train.

Exactly, no martial art can instantly turn someone into a bad ass. A lot of "krav maga schools", and I use that term loosely, make claims that are completely unfounded, like being able to disarm an opponent with a gun, which is stupid and reckless for any martial art to claim, besides being a total lie. Same thing for firearms. There is no such a thing as a "block and disarm technique" in real world. -"The strongest army in the world". Lol...they have barely 150.000 active personnel, 465.000 reserver personnel and strongly depend on foreign support to barely survive and justify their existence. Just to give you the possibility to compare it to a really strong army: The US has 1.380.000 active, 811.000 reserve ; the EU 1,823,000 active, reserves and potential reserves in terms of several millions; Russia 1,013,628, 2,572,500 reserved. Are some people really debating here between Krav Maga and MMA? Krav Maga itself IS street version of MMA. Why? Because it encompasses and adopts every effective techniques from every arts out there to use it. It's tailored towards street application. Krav Maga adopts techniques from all arts, just like MMA. Krav Maga adopts groin kicks from techniques from Muay Thai and kickboxing but tailored towards people's nuts, it adopts hand strikes from boxing and Muay Thai, ground defense from BJJ and Wrestling. Go look up the history yourself. Creator of Krav Maga was a former boxer and wrestler but he wanted to tweak it to be effective towards streets and made it into a system that is open to adopt any effective techniques even till this day, unlike bullshit arts like Wing Chun, Baguazhang, kung fu, or bunch of karate styles(except kyokushin) where they just rely on their grandmasters learnings. Now if you fuckheads are wondering what will happen if best Krav Maga fighter and best MMA fighter fought? It will not happen. But even if it did, MMA fighter will have an advantage due to the fact that MMA fighter had lot of full contact sparring experience but result will vary depending on who successfully executes their plan first because it's as stupid as saying pure boxer vs pure wrestler. We've seen pure boxing champ beat pure MMA champ(Ray Mercer vs Tim Sylvia) and also pure MMA champ beat pure boxing champ(Randy Couture vs James Toney). Both systems are deadly and respectable in their own ways. I prefer to train MMA or Muay Thai first to gain all the full contact training and conditioning aspects of it while learning Krav Maga on the side. I was a former Muay Thai practitioner and in my gym, lot of BJJ, MMA, and Krav Maga practitioners have learned from my gym as well as shared their specialty techniques from their respective arts. Only ignorant fucks disrespect other effective combat systems. Before Bruce Lee introduced JKD, lot of people were one dimensional and made fun of the concept of "jack of all trades, masters of none". Now it turns out jack of all trades is the best solution for anything, whether it's fighting, business, any type of engineering, etc.

Krav Maga is great for army professionals (especially in Israel), but not for civilians. Why? Because a soldier trains to kill. Israeli soldiers are trained to walk until their legs die. They do many pull-ups, sprints, cary fellow soldiers on their back. To sum it up: they are fit like athletes. Krav Maga is just one of several parts in their arsenal of defense and offense. When you are Joe Sixpack, working in an office, you lack vital reflexes. You never learn how to fight under pressure. Krav Maga schools in Europe rip you off, and give you a false feeling of confidence. On top of that, they only teach parts of the original Krav Maga. The specific (and deadly) military parts are not included in European and American training programs. If you are a young lion in an elite unit like Sayeret Matkal, or Golani, then Krav Maga is the best self defense system you can train in. But as a civilian, I would stick to boxing and MMA. Why? Because you'll learn to fight under pressure. I'm an amateur boxer myself. I don't know flashy moves. But I do respond very fast to any unforeseen movement. Whether right in front of me, or from the side. This is what civilian Kravists lack entirely. I twice participated in a seminar. All of those ground moves were new to me. But it was all simulation. Then we had to stand in line, and punch a guy holding a big body pad. When it was my turn, I hit that thing so hard, the pad fell to the floor and the guy grabbed his gut in agony. This is the difference between full contact martial arts and all the other stuff.

Most IDF only get a crash course in KRAV and forget everything after they leave the military. American KRAV is more water down but you can retain it

Best explanation! I have trained in KM for some years in the past and am Pro KM but I do also admit the limitations when taught in many "Americanizied" Schools...

YES I have heard that. The European schools look even far worse than American lol. I trained 4 years in Krav at World Wide ( Which is biggest in America.). I still found it good system . I may come back to it in the future. I have also trained a few years in MT and trying to find a gym. If not , then I may try a fundamental grappling class at Gracie Barra academy because my grappling skills are terrible

So people on here are arguing that krav would be better in a street fight or a fight against 2 or more people, others say no way mama training is better... only way to settle is one guy training krav for 3 years or so against a guy training in mama for same period of time, who wins??? Yep.

mma is for competition where you are fighting one other person inside a ring with a referee and rules. krav maga is for self defense whether yourr fighting one person or a group of people and there are no rules. you do not learn weapon defense in mma, you do not learn dirty fighting in mma, ypu do not learn awareness and evasive skills in mma. I look at like this, krav maga is mma for the streets and mma is for inside a ring. its foolish to really compare the two because many of the techniques and styles are the same. every single mma ufc fight win ive ever seen used something we learn in krav. I think the only difference in mma is the conditioning and thats it. at our school we have the krav room, kici boxing room and mma room. mma focuses more on conditioning and jujitsu and wrestling where as everything else such as boxing, judo, wrestling , jujitsu etc are all covered in krav. I guess it just depends on the school you go to and what the instructors expect and teach. our instructors are militant and our training is brutal.

There exists three versions of Krav Maga. Military Krav Maga ( The Real Deal and the best) , Policiary, Civilian. Now the problem with Krav Maga is that the schools usually teach the Civilian kind and that many of these schools dont spar much or practise on real life situations for it to work you need good instructors. This is why Krav Maga is not the best option but at as an introduction to martial arts it's ok.
