In terms of live ball era records I think Nolan Ryan's 2795 career walks is the most unbreakable record.

Honorable mentions: his 5714 career strikeouts and 7 no hitters. As a kid, I was a fan when he was finishing up with the Texas Rangers.

lol, I had not the slightest clue he also holds the walk record. fascinating. Par for the course per se, I am totally a mediocre, fairweather, passive sports fan all around. I like these types of videos, and think they are fascinating to learn about, but also am not a sports nerd myself and would probably never take the time to do such statisticianal research myself. So I rely on the real sports nerds out there to help me out.😂

@@lo1bo2 The record of 7 no hitters could be broken by a pitcher in just 8 career starts, so it's a very breakable record... unlike Ryan's walks and strikeoust records that would require decades to obtain, or in the case of the walks record, one very stubborn manager

@@nozrep Nolan Ryan pitched to get strikeouts and no-hitters. If he was in a bad spot, he'd just walk the batter.

Yes he holds the walk record because he couldn't harness his control when he was younger. Had he had Greg maddux pinpoint CONTROL and added another pitch to was arsenal. I truly believe he didn't harness his greatness until he in his 30s'. Most of 400 wins without blinking an eyelash cuz there's a lot of games he stayed until the end when he was with California look how many complete games he had which means that he if you got to him early but not many runs California did not score runs for that man so if you got to Nolan early you were lucky and then he would pitch going into the 8th and 9th inning he had a lot of complete games man that guy was an ironman in pitching. Tons of innings plus he used to hit a lot of guys too in his younger years. Randy Johnson pretty much owes part of his career to Nolan Ryan when they had that talk. Pretty much the same picture except he was left-handed and a way taller. Both of them are in the Hall of Fame.

@@big8dog887 it'll go up, but id be willing to bet that Ripken's streak would be broken before anyone broke Henderson's steals record, AND I'm saying that as an Orioles fan who grew up watching the streak. Ricky was unhuman in his stealing ability AND he was able to get walked more than anyone with his speed should have been.
@big8dog887
@big8dog887 Жыл бұрын
@@nicholasperrin3241 I'd take you up on that bet, except that we're probably both going to be dead long before either could collect. The reason I would though is because, corny as it sounds, the biggest reason both were able to set those records is that they really, really wanted to. So as a thought experiment, let's reincarnate both of them with the same talent and desire. Reincarnated Rickey (ReRick) really wants to steal bases, but his sabermetrically inclined manager wants to put the brakes on. ReRick can always defy the manager and steal anyway. Who's going to stop him? The manager isn't going to bench him, because, despite all of the caught stealings, ReRick is still putting up insane WAR numbers. (He's also probably getting caught less because of the new rules.) As far as Reincarnated Ripken (ReRip), he really wants to play every day. But if the manager, taking his cue from the NBA, decides that he's into "load management", all he has to do is not pencil ReRip into the lineup, and there's absolutely nothing ReRip can do about it. He can complain, he can even threaten to quit, but once the deed is done ReRip starts back at zero, and any hope of breaking the record is gone.

1:30-- the single greatest argument for Barry bonds being in the Hall of Fame right now..... 80% of the league was on steroids during his era at some point, and none of them came close to putting up ops numbers , intentional walk rates, or on-base percentages anywhere near his. The nineties proved that Barry bonds was hanging with the steroids guys when he was clean. The early 2000's showed us what could happen when a guy that talented took the juice like everybody else was. His natural superiority resurfaced.
