Shouldn't the be a gap between the lumber and the concrete wall?

Hold on a minute/..... No green lumber on the concrete block walls ??? Simply because there is construction adhesive on the contact surface ?? Listen....once those studs are behind the drywall, the ENTIRE stud is susceptible to moisture. Concrete of any kind gives off moisture. The parts of those studs NOT covered in adhesive will start to rot PRONTO. Use pressure treated ANYWHERE you attach wood to any concrete product.

Moved into a '79 house 2 years ago and decided to redo the basement bathroom. I'm down to the studs and concrete and noticed that the walls were framed using 2x2s. I want to put in a bathtub but not sure if the 2x2s will give it enough support. Any suggestions? Assuming reframing with 2x4s is not an option since the rough-in drains are positioned according to the 2x2 walls.

In the basement of my house the walls are 7 feet high the bottom two thirds are concrete and the top third is made of brick and mortar. There is a section of the brick in the corner of the wall that it is popping out and breaking apart. In this damaged area I find a white material in the form of powder or crystals. This damaged section of the wall there is no visible water, moisture or humidity on the wall, it looks totally dry. Also on the outside of the wall is the porch so the is no source of water and humidity coming from the outside. Could someone tell me why the bricks are popping out and the what the white powder and crystals are. Also how to fix it, please.

Efflorescence is a white crystalline or powdery, often fluffy/fuzzy deposit on the surface of masonry materials like concrete, brick, clay tile, etc. It's caused by water seeping through the wall/floor/object. If you can't see water that doesn't mean it's not there. It's behind. There are products to clean the area but do a thorough inspection to see where the moisture might be coming from.

Isn’t Code 16 inches on center?
@diyduke
@diyduke 4 жыл бұрын
It's a matter of structural support. Since these are inside walls already supported by pre-existing walls then 24 inches on center will save on materials. Enough to attach sheetrock to.
