Excellent video, and it should have a lot more likes. This is incredibly useful and helpful information, but you do go quite quickly through the steps -- maybe make a dumbed down version for the average viewer? Regardless, you're doing great stuff and we appreciate it. Thanks!

Yasssss! I was hoping you would still create/post this video. Your results are surprising. You have 6.5 inch drivers in your Versa 1s. I incorrectly guessed that your crossovers would ultimately have been set lower. But this is a great example that you can never know for certain until you measure YOUR speakers in YOUR room. Imagine all the performance and immersion you would be missing out on had you not measured them and seen for your yourself. What a great series of videos. Congratulations! Very well done, Sir. You have a home theater to be very proud of 🎥 🍺

@@josealfredfernandes Are you talking about your LFE crossover or your mains crossover settings? If you are talking about LFE, I would leave it at 120 hz. And without taking measurements like I did in the video, I can't tell you the best crossover settings for your mains.

Great video and thanks for the great explanation. For me to understand, shouldn't every left side of the graph at the crossover point be neglected, since your filtering that out, and instead focus on the right side of the line, and it's output?
@TyEichele
@TyEichele Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I like to look at the overall output on both sides of the crossover point. This helps determine what is happening over the entire frequency sweep, and prevent any weird nulls or drop out points if comparing it to another crossover that has a much better response and better output. So I don't completely ignore it, but use it as a tool to see what is happening after the crossover point has been set and measured against other crossover points. Hope that makes sense. 👍

Great tool and explanation. I've been trying to get into REW but my goodness. Too technical and difficult for me to follow/understand. I only use audyssey and leave it as is, other than very small tweaks.

Hello.I understand everything except transferring the sub delays to Mini DSP. I do not have a Mini DSP. I’m using an Emotiva RMC processor and dual SVS PB16s. I have REW and UMIK-1 mic. So for folks without a Mini DSP, where can I enter those values (sub delays into Mini DSP outputs). Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks!
@TyEichele
@TyEichele Жыл бұрын
I am honestly not sure. I am not very familiar with Emotiva personally, maybe someone else can chime in. I'm pretty sure there is nowhere to do something like that on my Denon for example though, as that is fairly advanced as far as dialing in delays, etc. Should probably just get yourself a minidsp - you won't regret it. 😉

Can you measure the left and right speakers together using asio
@TyEichele
@TyEichele 2 жыл бұрын
I don't believe so - but I could be wrong. Inside of REW using ASIO there were options for all 5 or 7 bed layer speakers (5.1 or 7.1) individually, and a subwoofer channel. I don't believe there was a channel for both fronts at the same time. You should be able to do that using the Java option and selecting L+R in the output section. Hopefully that helps and makes sense.

I wonder if a 60hz crossover would be best for center channels ?

@TyEichele
@TyEichele 2 жыл бұрын
@@Lowkey_nxthxn I like to think it sounds better but it could be all in my head. Maybe I can try changing it to 60 hz some day and run a few scenes then change it back to 120 and watch the same scenes. But from the graphs and real measurement results, I would think 120 hz would clearly make it sound better due to the smoother response and increase in SPL (loudness) than it would have at a much lower crossover setting. I might be able to try this next week and get back to you with my findings.

This process you are showing is for 2 channel (i.e. stereo audiophile) alignment with subs. For home theater you don't change the LFE from 120 hz (that should never change). You do measurements with LFE always at 120 hz, and only change the other speakers' crossovers. I saw another KZfaq channel (Home Theater Gamer) also show this method for home theater sub to speaker alignments. I can elaborate why it is not done for home theater if you want. I like that you are putting out videos this this. Not many people do.
@TyEichele
@TyEichele 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment and for watching! I agree with you and in this video I never talk about the LFE crossover, which I probably should of mentioned stays at 120 hz. The crossovers we are changing are the main speaker crossovers - the Left/Center/Right/Surround speakers. They have individual crossover settings inside of the receiver/AVR that are seperate from the LFE crossover of 120 hz that you are referring too. Measuring and picking the speaker crossover point that has the smoothest response will make the system sound louder and more solid, since the subwoofers are handling more of the work. This also allows the mains to really play (loud) with less effort. Hope that makes more sense of what we are accomplishing by this process.

You lost me at starting delays. My L-SUB=14.34 R-SUB=9.2. Would this be my starting delay?
@TyEichele
@TyEichele 2 жыл бұрын
The starting delay is the delay that you initially came up with and you entered into your MiniDSP when you were time aligning all of your subs together. It's your base-line delay that got your subs all in alignment at the main listening position. You need to know the baseline delay because you add the smaller amounts of delay to your baseline numbers as you go through this process. Hopefully that makes more sense!

Can't you delay your mains in the avr?
@TyEichele
@TyEichele 2 жыл бұрын
The only way I can think of is by changing the distance setting of the mains, but that setting is typically in feet and there is no real way of knowing how that equates to the exact delay the time alignment tool is giving you. With the miniDSP, it's super easy to get the exact delay needed to the sub system and you are good to go.
@doublet147
@doublet147 2 жыл бұрын
@@TyEichele the reason I ask is because my Denon shows it in FT but you can switch it to MS. I don't really want to change the delay in my subs after I've fine tuned them to my room using delay. Wouldn't that undo their room curve? The subs would stay in alignment with each other but they be off for the room. Also, I can only adjust my subs up to 7 ms (I have the minidsp non HD version), so I was thinking that changing the speaker delay in the avr would be best.
@TyEichele
@TyEichele 2 жыл бұрын
@@doublet147 You bring up some good points. Here are my thoughts - When you are adding delay when you are intitially getting your subwoofers setup, the delay is during the time alignment process so that each sub is playing together in the room as a single subwoofer basically. The delay does take into account the rooms effect, but once the subwoofers are time aligned together, adding a little bit more of a delay across all of the subwoofers will continue to keep them in time alignment with each other, and since we've already measured and taken into effect how the room comes into play adding more delay equally across all subwoofers will still work with the room but now they are time aligned to the Mains as well. This all happens before you do any EQ or add any house curve, so no your house curve will not change or be effected by adding more delay to the subs. Just make sure it is the same amount of delay to each channel output for each subwoofer channel you use in a MiniDSP. If you look at my above video when I show the graphs for just the subs around the 6 min 30 sec mark you will clearly see my house curve is still in tact. Maybe try the delay on the mains and see how it sounds and works for you! Or, just skip aligning the subs with the Mains all together and just follow the rest of the steps to get measurements and visually see how each crossover setting looks on your speakers in your room. Let me know how it turns out in whatever you decide to do! Good luck!
