I played badminton for 10 years without any training.Serving and defending should not be the problems to me, smashing need more energy and the most important is the footstep, my friend said how can I play without training before, I said I played for so many years and because I love badminton. What I want to say is first you must interesting in badminton so that you can play well and don't give up.

I’m a 100% total beginner at this, I played it in school about 20 years ago but nothing serious. My Mrs wants to start this, so ordered the rackets and shuttlecocks, will be taking this up soon as they arrive. Since I suggested it, got loads of family and friends who want to start it Aswel. as I am a total beginner I don’t understand the rules and techniques so educating myself:) don’t want to show myself up

@@ragh9014 hmmmm if you have a garden with enough room (and no wind) you could try and hit up and then smash? Or if you have something around net hight you could practice net serve. Sorry that's all I've got because I've not been practicing even before lockdown becuase of injuries. But hope that helped

To be honest all that is important is your grip and your footwork. For reference, the grip is like what he said and there's basically no other grips. As for footwork, you need to unlock your knees, don't stand straight up with your knees locked, just like in boxing. No matter how you stand and what your position is, you should be able to move at all side without compensation for speed.

you can also learn a smash. All you do is try to get your opponent to hit up at a high angle. Once there bend your knees to position yourself. When the shuttlecock is in reach you extend your hand and knees up above you. and use your wrist to hit up to down. It takes practice and it only works if prepared correctly at a close enough angle but holy makeral if you land it the shuttlecock will be WAY to fast and low for them to hit it. If they do hit it, it would probably be going up in the air again, ready for another smash, where they cant be prepared, go too low and hit the net, right over the net into the no ballie zome, or right over the net where you can go hit it right over the net where they will be in a state of recovering for you to hit it again.
