Phra Dan (Bhante Dhammarakkhita, Bhikkhu) is a Theravada Buddhist Monk who lived in India from 2020, Thailand and now Sri Lanka. Born in Sussex, England in 1967. Educated by French Catholic Monks. A successful businessman in Estate Agency and Financial Services during the 1980's and 90's. Married, now divorced with 3 adult son's. 2000 marked change and travel including South Africa returning to the UK in 2003 to continue different work and business activities until 2012. Gradually materialistic values turned to renunciation, simplicity and meditation, living nomadically in an old Ford Transit van full time for 3 years. Van life and meditation led to Buddhism and a Thai Forest Tradition, Theravada Buddhist Monastery in the UK. During 2015 travelling the Buddhist Holy Sites of India, deep faith reinforced desire for Ordination. In 2020 after 5 years of intensive meditation practice between Thai Forest Monasteries in Thailand and England he was Ordained in India where he lived for 3 years until returning to Thailand in 2023 and now Sri Lanka.

Thank you, Venerable Phra Dan, for sharing. Actually, I have known and heard about this teachings quite a lot in my native language, yet you still gave a very simple, accurate meaning and in-depth explanations, which was perfect for me to relearn and listen again. I was feeling sort of empty, or what you would call 'suffering', prior to watching this, but this video helped enlighten me, again, about the simple Buddha's teachings. Thank you very much.

It's even simpler than to repeat the standardized thing every Buddhist knows, and none of them is free. Because it's not the complicated verbage of 'there is suffering' and the rest of the 4 Noble truths. It's the belief that there is any thing! Including you. The artificial creation of objects of the senses is the underlying cause of all suffering, because it is what creates wanting and not-wanting, when you believe there are any things to want, and any 'person' who is falsely identifying as an experiencer.

Very educative. I love his videos. Please allow me to interrupt. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. I just wanted to impart this information to you.

@@englishmonk it isn't history. It's the present day. There was no conversion to Hinduism. The conversion to Hinduism theory is a myth created by successful invaders of which the British were the last. All these Babas I described above were passed off as the hundreds of Hindu gods and goddesses in the Hindu pantheon. We indians were also brainwashed into believing that.

Thank you Sir for summing up Buddhism in simplest way possible. I do hv 2 qns. In meditation, what to do if my breath is small or almost lost....Should I keep waiting for it ? Also how to increase my concentration, as it is very weak Sir ?
@englishmonk
@englishmonk Жыл бұрын
Namo Buddhaya. Thank you for watching and your comments. The breath becomes subtle as ee relax but is there. Identify a point in the body where you can clearly notice the breath when you first sit. If it's difficult to notice the breath the rising and falling of the abdomen is good. Then maintain your attention on it. Your concentration, by which you could mean mindfulness being week is why it seems you lose the breath. Just begin again, maybe even counting and with enough practice you will be able to sustain concentration on the breath for longer. Relax and your meditation. Please SUBSCRIBE and visit again soon. Sukhi Hontu 🙏

Im not sure if you take prayer requests, but if you do, will you share a wellbeing prayer for my mother, Catrice. She's experiencing her next round of chemotherapy this week for breat cancer 🎀. Thank you for your thoughts either way, Ven. Dan? One last question, what do you think about the practice of martial arts by lay people if grounded in the precepts? it seems to be a moving meditation when done for general wellbeing, and when & if sparring, the exercise is done for fun & conversation, not harm. I hope to hear what you think. Thank you.

Thank you, dear friend, dear sir. I wonder if we can explore the 4 truths further, also, ego, or ego less ness. Personality view... I wonder if it is possible to explore, to question, to inquire into these points without setting ourselves up as any type of authority. Not putting anything beyond question ⁉️ Even the so called truth. Isnt "Buddism", a type of identification, ego,? Also the 4 truths I have not found it's root, but gone certainly beyond the conditions of Buddhism, of language, is this something we can explore together... What else is necessary for stream entry, as far as parami development? If any?
