Very well thought out and executed animations, thank you! Shouldn't each pitch be half rope length max (not one), in case the climber wants to abort the climb descend for some reason?

That’s a great question and it depends on the route. Some multipitch routes use natural anchors or bolts from which the leader cannot descend so in many cases, the party must go all the way to the top. Traditionally, pitches end at natural belay ledges which means pitch length can vary greatly on many multipitch climbs. Sometimes it is necessary for the leader to continue past half a rope length in order to get to the next available belay ledge.

@@JesseMontgomery thanks a lot for the clear answer. Feels scary to me that once you start climbing, the only way out is all the way to at top. Maybe I should pick another hobby. Or perhaps my perception will change one day if I go out and climb for real instead of just watching videos :)
