According to Einstein, when a photon of light of frequency "f" is incident on a metal surface, the energy is transmitted to a free electron in the metal.

Forgive my ignorance of basic physics, but electrons can jump up levels in an atom, but i guess there are also free electrons in metal because of the magnetic attraction? Anyway, this seems to say, the entire energy of a light photon is absorbed by a free electron in metal, and all of the photon's energy is converted into the kinetic (moving) energy of the electron to break it free from the metal's attraction? Tight, I never knew the full definition of the actual photoelectric effect before. Or i forgot haha
