Here’s the basics of adjusting the rear shocks on a drag Radial car. There are some very high end shock companies out there that will custom valve the shocks to your specific combination! If you can, take advantage of their knowledge.

It's amazing how many people are running an 8.8 rear these days instead of a 12 bolt GM or a Ford 9" or a Dana 60 those used to be the big 3 rears to run with anywhere from a 3.73-4.56 gear for running the 1/4 and 4.88 and bigger for the 8th

Great info John I have strange adkustsbles coilovets on my mustang and strange adjustable coilovets struts on the front. They work well for my power level but I don't like the fact that you can t hear the clicks and can barely feel the clicks when I adjust them. Your QA1's have a very audible clicking sound. Keep up the great videos

I’m loving these videos man, you really put out loads of invaluable information! I have a 95 extended cab truck with a 500+ hp 383 stroker in it and is nothing compared to what you have. I can’t make it hook on the street, I run a 4l80e with a 3800 rpm stall, I have cheap traction bars, and air shocks on the back with a 275/60/17 hard tire on it. What would you recommend me to try to do to make it hook? Maybe a better tire? Or front suspension? I’ve tried tuning what I have in the rear but it’s just not helping.
@TurboJohnRacing
@TurboJohnRacing 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Low profile tires are hard to hook since there is no sidewall to work! I have very limited time on that type of tire. Probably is nose heavy I would imagine as well, so that is not helping. Yours may be a good candidate for a looser style front shocks/strut. Like a 90/10. It would allow the front to rise some. But it really is trial and error testing! Good luck with it!

So on a car that initially hooks the tire(radial) then gradually spins would you add more compression?
@TrampusWingo
@TrampusWingo 5 жыл бұрын
Awesome info man. So, loose track, hit the tire harder, and with slicks too, sifted R/C? And tight tracks, or radial/stiffer sidewall, hit the tire less, meaning more/stiff R/C? As for shocks, how much difference is there between, say, QA1, AFCO, and Santhuff? And why?
@TurboJohnRacing
@TurboJohnRacing 5 жыл бұрын
I’m not real good with slicks, so I don’t have a ton of advice for them, other than to not run them. LOL. On radials, if the track is not as good, if the anti squat is above 100% and the rear separates from the body, you will loosen the extension so it can plant the tire harder. Depending on track bumpiness, compression may have to be loosened to stop tire bounce. But on tight, smooth tracks tighten extension and compression.

Good evening John, is there a difference between hp when running drag radials or slicks when dyno tuning for max horsepower ,
@TurboJohnRacing
@TurboJohnRacing 4 жыл бұрын
I don’t dyno. I would guess the slick would be down a tad, but unless it’s spinning bad I don’t know how much if any. Really don’t know.

If your on a true no prep surface like the street how soft should i go ? I have strange single adj shocks on my supercharged sn95 with m/t dr . And it just seems no matter what I release the transbrake it just blows the tires off. I have antiroll bar setup decent. Fronts on full soft

Get someone to get some vids of the car so you can look at them. I have not tried the radials on a road, most everyone is using slicks on the roads around here.

Hey John, you don't happen to have another set of older single adjustable shocks or anything, do you by chance..? I'm looking for something, better than nothing, that I can afford and will work with 700-900ish H.P. If you or any friends has a pair(rear), please let me know!! And will I be able to get by with a double adjustable shock only, or would I be best running a coil over spring..?

What psi you recommend on radials?
@TurboJohnRacing
@TurboJohnRacing 5 жыл бұрын
It really depends on a lot of factors, 12-19psi. Depends on weight, anti squat, track prep, shock settings, which tire it is.
