I am a naturally visual artist but I never noticed how the eye level perspective changed the ellipses depth. Your tutorial was fascinating and helpful. P.S. I love your London accent. 🇬🇧

The tip about inadvertent corners was very helpful. It should have been obvious to me, but wasn't at all. Now I won't forget it. You might want to apply this lesson about ellipses to flowers at some point, since that is one context in which the ellipses are more often than not on a slant.

LOL, I didnt grow up in London and I put an "r" in the same word. Not all nationalities can enunciate every English sound when speaking English. They leave sounds out of words. Like water off a duck, let the negative run off you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!

Help! I’m in my kitchen and after watching this video now everything is shouting at me, “Look at me, I’m a ellipse”, “Look at me I‘m a g’nother ellipse”. They’re everywhere, I’m surrounded, plates, saucepans, mugs, bottles, pots, bins, lampshades…. Above the eyeline, below the eyeline, on the eyeline, behind the eyeline (can’t even see those but now I know they’re there and lurking!) Life was peaceful before, now they’re all shouting at me “We’re ellipses and we don’t have corners!” (Well you do when I draw you so get used to it!😄) Brilliant observations, Michele, I hope you get your 1000 Likes! x

Thank you Michele that was a great explanation on ellipses and one thing I was stuck on. And as for the bullies. I know it's very hard to ignore when someone pulls you up over the most silly things. But look at it this way most bullies want to puff themselves up and undermine everybody elses confidence. Are they on You Tube doing what you do?. NO because they haven't got the guts. It's their insecurity, they can't stand anyone to do better than themselves. I had plenty of it. Michele do not change the way you are. Talk the way you feel right with. It does not bother us how you pronounce drawing I know a lot of people that put the R in drawing. I was brought up in London and many people say it that way and it's not what or how they say things, it's the person themselves that matters. I' ve been with you a long time now and the way you say things do not bother me. Why should you change for anyone? The people that love you dont want you to change. You are one of the best teachers I know of and have a great way and very clear way of explaining things. Do not change anything. We love you just the way you are. We are here to learn and I have learned so much from you already. You have so much that these bullies have not got that maybe wish they had. And if they can spend their lives nitpicking over the way you say drawing. Then they don't have anything better to do only make arseholes of themselves all day long. 😂. You can't help their jealousies and insecurities and you are not responsible for them. They have to cope with their problems themselves. You stay being you. You have the better part. Stick with the people that love you Michele. Your family and friends and KZfaqrs here and many love you. They are the ones with the problem not you. One of my Irish friends here always said " ye" instead of you." I love him for him for it. It's him. But lately I believe someone pulled him up on it. And I couldn't believe he fell for their crap. He always said ye when he was talking to.more than one. Like " I'll see ye later." Or will one of ye close the door on your way out." Many Irish say it. This was Him and I love him for being him. My late father and mother were Irish and they used to say it. And It was them and I love it. But I noticed this friend suddenly started correcting himself and go from "ye" to you. and say "or you I should say". I thought someone has got to him. All the Irish have this way of talking. It was always ye. and my father did and it was always accepted. It was them and I love them for it. I would not change it for anything. Someone I believe took my friend up on this made him like crap and feel like he was less than intelligent. Well there is nothing less intelligent about him. He is a very very intelligent man. I said "Dont start correcting yourself for anyone else. This was you and is you and always will be you. just be yourself. And talk the way you always talk. If you want to say Ye say Ye. It's them with the problem not you." It's an Irish thing. And I love it. I never thought anything less of the Irish for saying it. Its them. It's part of them. I noticed though many have changed and say "you" now because some people might have thought it was clever to take them up on it and many has changed it to sound more intelligent but I don't think so. I love the Irish and the way they speak warms my heart. This man is one of the sweetest, kindest most intelligent men I have ever met and has everything going for him and he suddenly felt inferior because someone somewhere pulled him up on this to make him feel like he was thick and pump themselves up. He is so far from being thick. It really upset me that he was made feel this way. And made him feel he had to change and talk " properly". Rubbish. Absolute rubbish. The same way this one is telling you about the way you say drawing. So what if you say drawring. That is YOU. And we all want you to STAY being YOU. It's the person that counts. The way they speak or pronounce things make up the beautiful souls that they are. It makes that person who they are. The way they speak does not make them less kinder or human. If the person has a good heart then what does it matter. There are so many good people with so much love and so much to give. That's all that counts. I find the situation at 8:13 tricky when there's a hollow cylinder. The top circle/ellipse and the bottom one overlap and this creates an area that appears to have pointy ends. The best thing is probably to draw the top and bottom ellipses separately, and rub out the small section of the bottom one that's hidden by the front wall.

Your brittish english is lovely! It' s very precise, you pronouse the whole word without skipping for example the end and you separate the words in your sentenses so it's easy to hear each word. Your speed is also good. Really easy to understand for a person not having english as first language. 👍 The only thing about this "super London brittish" accent (?)is that it must be very tiring the way you move your lips and face muscles in order to speak like this?😮😅❤

Great as always. I really like how you explain things. An unexpected bonus for me was the section on eye line. When I’ve watched videos on perspective and they talk about about eye line in relation to perspective, I can’t always work out where the eye line is. Now I can! There’s a subject for a video. I find perspective tricky. I’m not sure if you’ve done a more comprehensive video like this one on perspective?

SO helpful- particularly thinking about bands in the middle (if that makes sense) - thank you!! As for that intrusive ‘r’ - long live the diversity of accents in these isles. I’ve lived in England for nearly 40 years & have never lost my own (Scottish) accent. Why should you modify yours?

I am a mathematician, and I will say for the record that you said nothing technically wrong. I could use technical terms, like minor axis for the shorter axis, but why would I? Shorter axis will do just fine, thank you. And just because I know that the ellipse further below the top should have a longer minor axis than the top one, doesn’t mean I would think of that when I sketch. You helped me put 2 and 2 together.

Could you cover how to draw round objects so that they look three-dimensional?

Brilliant video, and so informative, it’s opened my eyes to the drawing of ellipses. One problem I come up against is the shadows these objects cast, rather than reflections. Particularly something like a glass of liquid. Are there any simple rules that can help me with this?
