An estimated 80 percent of men owned land during the nineteenth century, and deeds can be useful in documenting lives and relationships. But records involving land transfers after the original title holder often require a deeper level of understanding to be used effectively. Watch as Bill Eddleman, associate director of the Cape Girardeau Research Center, provides an overview on locating available information in land records and other sources.

I've watched quite a few of deed videos. This one is hands down the best! Still looking for my enslaved ancestors in them

50 years later! Wow. And I thought I was being diligent by looking over deeds up to 10 years after someone's death. We basically have to read every deed available no matter the time frame if we still haven't found what we're looking for.

What if there is no deed, but the land is mentioned in a will (From Frederick County, Maryland) , Says He has Land in VA, and I can't find it. I think it is in Hardy Hampshire County VA--- I looked at Grants to, can't find it (unsure how complete the database on grants was). Will of Christian Stouffer / Stover (d.1814) Frederick County MD. 1814 liber RB1, 1808-1815 slide 560/618?

He wills 1200 acres of land in Virgnia in 1814 to his son Jacob, David and Henry. I can't find any record of it, or where the land was? where can I look? His will was made in Frederick County Md. and I have seen the inventories, admin acounts, wills and can find nothing.
