Basic NGS Lore vs Epic PSO2 Lore

Like how Zeomantic had said and what PrinceBrightStar had craved, please do add in more lore or story that can provide more lore in NGS instead of skipping the 2 areas completely to the 3rd while the Dark Falz is not even dealt with yet.
Previously in Base PSO2, the story is really epic in proportions that warrants all out war with Battle Fleets against Planetary level threats, the enemies and bosses we encounter at the moment in NGS is quite the tame animal in comparison, I know it's maybe cause they haven't reach the building up or climax of the storyline yet, but still, such a large planet with multiple regions, with several planets orbiting including that weird flying structure on top of Halpha Lake, like those are literally lore pieces anyone can build onwards.
But well, for now I guess we'll still have to wait as Story/Lore fans sadly.

What made base PSO2 so good was because of the gigantic stakes, a good example is its first intro where it shows a basic boss, a giant insect. As the camera pans to the Oracle fleet, showing that there is a gigantic scale of danger (also the fact that almost every single Falz and Photoner is a universe ender in many ways)

Yeah the glory of ARKs Fleet and how much ARKs had accomplished since PSO1 is being flaunted, and then in actuality, there is a sinister story behind it too that led to EP2.

I hope they better step up the threat of the dolls. Like making it some sort of planetary assimilation lifeform, or showing us a planet that is entirely doll-isized, or showing a facility that turns ARKS into dolls or anything more interesting than "jello man bad"

I think a big problem with NGS' story is that despite it taking place a millennia after PSO2, the most progress that ARKS has made with its colonization efforts has been rather underwhelming and the central conflict is still the ol' big evil space demon terrorizing the universe except less interesting because the villains in NGS are just generic doomsday monsters rather than human-ish characters with their own different ambitions Its still nowhere near as advanced as PSU's setting

What pisses me off the most is how dolls is such an empty threat,i will not deny that they look very cool but we have barelly any information about them! Like why do they want us dead,how they work and function,how do they produced more dolls,what abilities they may have and the fact there isn't a single sentient antagonist

As someone who has actually entered the field of narrative design, I will have to say that NGS is laughably bad at having an overarching narrative, has little to no transformation (both in-game and towards the player themselves), and has very terrible ludonarrative dissonance ("Hey, this monster has been terrorizing the region for years" *MC kills the region boss the next day*). Also the cliches really ruined it for me (having a "main character," (Garoa) who had potential, to end up dying the first 5-10 minutes in the game, a setting is destroyed, the """amnesia"""", etc.). If you were to play PSO2's story in full, then watch your character in NGS, it's a giant slap in the face because if ONLY the main character did NOT have that crap "amnesia" as a meteorn, they would have gone the rogue route, not affiliate with ARKS, and SINGLE-HANDEDLY defeat every threat that is being caused on the 4 regions and possibly Dark Falz, and more (who knows), and this could obviously be a better outcome instead of the MC joining the ARKS in Halpha, in my honest opinion, knowing that the main character has defeated the multiple Dark Falzes in the PSO2 timeline, Profound Darkness (on multiple occasions), Shiva, the Primordial Darkness/Sodam etc., confronted Persona, and literally re-wrote history. The Great Light ffs has grown an extreme power at this point!

while I will agree that the story is lacking so far, there is indeed lore if you bother to look into the phantasy star rpgs to learn more about the original dark falz lore before the pso revamp of the franchise story. the profound darkness never stays dead, it resurrects every 1000 years. as for why persona/ash/player is in ngs, he/she is the great light, a legendary hero that is the antithesis to the profound darkness that reappears every 1000 years when the profound darkness is reawakening. figured it out yet? 1000 year timeskip, dark falz being back. as for why the dark falz is back, I suspect the god boss from end of episode 4 that adam turned into, turned into a new dark falz and returned. the dolls look very similar in design and color, renus retem's body even looks just like the serpent heads of the urgent quest version of that episode 4 boss if you look hard enough, same color scheme on the necks. also being the great light is most likely why persona was never fully corrupted by dark falz and retained his sanity. also kinda hinted at by the little sphere of light in the profound darkness fight.

@@infern24 actually the reason persona retained his "sanity" is because his strongest desire at the moment he became a dark falz was to save matoi. The goal of a dark falz if decided at the moment of its inception. It's why Luther tried to xorrupt the universe, thinking if he could absorb the universe he could become omniscient like xion. It's why aurora is pretty much just concerned with being worshipped because her vanity caused her to fall when she became forgotten or rather was no longer a public icon. You're strongest desire in the moment you fall is what dictates the goal of a dark falz.

@@AndroidNoir-L06k tbh on our character being the same from base it makes sense on one account. Dark falz itself. This isn't the first one in halpha there was another. And that one showed up in lost central and it froze over. Lost is said to have fallen because it's citizens relied too much on tech and not enough on their photons. Now here's my theory to tie the two games together and why it makes sense mc is the same from base. They know they failed because a super strong arks saved them from that arks but ended up freezing lost in the process, similar to naverius. Which klariskrays did to elder. And I think it could be matoi. As in some point in time the guardians were put on ice incase the world needed them again or something similar. Manon also isn't amnesiac because she was the one who deployed them to halpha and jumped ship with them. Halpha is sorta a training planet to forge the strongest arks possible to deal with a new grander threat in the universe that ended or heavily impairs the oracle fleet. Matoi got sent down. Dark falz rose to test them as she's a guardian and they failed but Matoi potentially learning or assuming how to do so from the original klariskrays seals that darkfalz. And then we don't see another one on halpha until the 2nd guardian, us arrive. It makes no sense why the gap in Dark falz appearances otherwise to me. Even if we want to say it got destroyed wholly it's still too long with the technological power of the dolls. An injured Dark falz can come back with a huge upgrade in a month or so idk how long game time but certainly wasn't decades. Give it a few more months and or Dark falz might have hit the lost central form if it didn't already. Another thing is some people seeing aegis' orb drawing attack to be it connecting to some darkness potentially a PD, but not being in a state to fully utilize or maintain it so it has to eject it in a last ditch attack. And if this darkfalz is connected to pd then it makes sense that it would also arrive and resonate with two characters who ended up becoming or being very close to being PD. And lastly if it is a training planet, having the guardians being tested hard alongside the planet makes sense. There literally would be no struggle without Dark falz with the guardians. There's also oddities like seasonal enemies and why the seasonal sisters have similar names to the xion, Xiao and xiera naming conventions. Could they be at the controls behind the scenes to a degree? And why the dolls are gathering data on all arks. And obviously given the sky and amount of command doll units, sending that data to the floating facility in the sky.

Pso2 was so awesome 😆 my excitement for the ngs story hit an all time high with the 3 second flashback to Matoi when we went to the nameless city for the first time.

I could work with a story with a smaller scale, and don't even mind if it's very simple. However base PSO2 feels like it's at a reading level for teens while NG feels like it was written for spastic children.

I think they were purposely putting the story at the sidelines from launch till like Chapter 4, as the developers just thought that the players don't like the story but in the end, even if PSO2 story had flaws, at least they do their best to make it memorable or workable enough.

They are a Free To Play Live Service game, that's how they make revenue, though at least we do have more free choices now more than Base PSO2 if you include seasonal exchanges and Mission pass and SG and Special scratches.

I pretty much enjoy Episode 4. It just never feels the same when they switch from Matter board to Storyboard. In the Matter board, we can do whatever we want until we hit the story branches. In that case, we do another Matter to learn that there are some other things going on and we need to know that so we can change the outcome of the main story. While on the Storyboard, we just need to be at a specific level or clear a specific quest to move on. This reduces the confusion player had with the story but also reduces the 'richness' the story used to have. In Episode 5, I only look forward to unlocking the Dark Blast (lol). While in Episode 6 the story doesn't have any branches and nothing we do changed the outcome of the main story except the last mission before we fight Shiva. Andddd... I never finished the true ending... yeah... Since I played the game in the JP server and didn't complete the story re-telling from Alma (I presume we need to do it to encounter a true ending). I never fight the real end-game boss.

You just got to S rank the last mission to get the true ending so if worst comes to worst just do the last fight against Shiva on normal/casual. I agree something was lost when they switched from the Matter Board but it did help me get through the story at a reasonable rate since I switched to Global once it came out in the West.

@axsprime I think they reduce the difficulty? Because last time I played in the JP server was when episode 6 just ended and it is said that you need to S rank the last mission (basically, no death and rescue all ARKS members along the way). But even after I did that, there are no other prompts to change the ending. I look it up and saw that in order to encounter a true ending, I need to finish Episodes 3 and 4 and S rank the last mission. Which I did, sort of... since I finished Matter Board but not the story re-telling from Alma. I did check that the game did not recognize me finished the first 3 Episodes. I did try to finish it but only to episode 1 before I got bored and switched to global on steam. And I never finished episode 1 and only played NGS...

As much as I wanted Episode 6 be more story and content or even Episode 7/8 etc, the Base PSO2 game filesize had gotten too bloated, hence they had to pull the plug, because the game was already 70GB++ at Episode 6. The old engine is just not optimized and so they moved on to NGS.

As awesome as the PSO2 story and lore was it didn't start out great, in my opinion up until episode 2 PSO2's story was on par for what we have with NGS so far so I'm hoping that NGS's story can improve like PSO2's did.

Yeah the Base PSO2 story was originally going to be a very time wasting ordeal back then, to waste more time to get through the stories by locking nodes in exploration zones. They already streamline it plenty in Global Release but you can see the cracks in the cutscenes there yeah. It was just the start of PSO2 at that time so it is understandable however NGS is supposed to be a sequel but apparently they just outsourced the Story to another company and hence why the Story was this bad.

@@AzariusR Oh yeah I played on JP in the days of the Matter Board, the transition from that to the more streamlined story did hurt the first 3 episodes, Episode 1 the most in my opinion even if it made actually experiencing the story much less frustrating. I actually didn't know they outsourced NGS's story that's a bit concerning. Still, here's hoping for improvement, maybe they'll move the story in house in the future or have some of the inhouse writing staff be more involved with the outsourced company.

Megalith Theme is god tier As for NGS, it's not doing the best right now. Let's hope they at least finish the game. (Currently we are waiting on Chapter 7.)

Aren't NGS arks are numbered? They don't practice cloning and kvaris are 1 example of ARKS losing the battle other than Garoa's deatht.

Well we don't exactly know how many ARKs outposts or base camps out there too, but if you look at the Central Command Room, there are details of ARKs Fleets and several other planets visible in this system. Now the question is, are there ARKs stationed on those planets or are they just not contactable at the moment?

Open world was a mistake, It should've stayed an instanced based game maybe that would've made the game decent and not the dumpster fire it is today. They could've had support for base to deal with the downtime of NGS but they decided to leave it to rot instead.
