Nice and informative video... thanks Neha. Would like to know if the terracotta clay jewellery be baked in convection oven?
@nehagopinathpillai
@nehagopinathpillai 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Not at all. Typically low fire earthen ware clay has to be fired between 900 - 1100 degrees C for a duration of 8 hours and cooling down period of anther 8 hours or so. That wouldn't be possible in a convection oven. If you have access to a ceramic or pottery studio close by, you can check if they provide firing services.

@@nehagopinathpillai Thank you for clarifying. Ok can we use MDF also, as a working space?
@nehagopinathpillai
@nehagopinathpillai 4 жыл бұрын
@@aditishrivastava2243 sure you may. Wood tends to warp with time, so you might just have to replace it when that happens. It's common and most of us just replace the board. So I suggest you don't spend too much on that. Also, please don't use anything with varnish/laminate or polish on.

@nehagopinathpillai 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Eye pin/head pins are used for assembling(post firing). Pre-firing (before firing) while making the piece, while the clay is still wet, nichrome wire is used. A combination of nickel and chromium, it's a high temp wire which doesn't melt in the kiln while firing.

@@vaniviswa6068 high temp wire is what everyone uses for ceramics /pottery. And yes, it seems to do a decent job. A well known brand for kilns is Skutt. Skutt kilns go 600 $ and upwards. If you are a beginner I wouldn't suggest it. I don't own a kiln myself, and prefer outsourcing that service from the studio.

@nehagopinathpillai 3 жыл бұрын
You are most welcome! I use the nylon cord as per the bead hole size I make for my terracotta beads. I use three sizes 3-4mm, 1.5mm and 1.18m. If the cord is around 3mm thickness then the wooden bead hole could be around 3-4mm.. Please note that I am referring to the hole size and not the bead size itself. You can try a local fancy store. It's easily available and a lot of cheaper than what's been sold online.

I do use bubble wrap, but if that's banned too then using paper shreds works. Lots of it though! A 3 ply corrugated box helps. You do get corrugated sheets for packing. You can also get thermocole sheets - that too works perfectly well.
