Storing clay:
I store clay in thick plastic bags. If the clay hardens over time, make dents and spray some water over the clay. This helps clay stay moist for a longer duration. Keep it in a cool place. Do not store clay under a fan or AC vent.
Reclaim clay:
Very sticky clay can be laid out on a wooden board and make dents and spread it out evenly. Then Let it sit for a while and once its set, knead and use the clay to make your jewellery pieces. Kneading is an important step.
Kneading clay:

This way clay is not wasted and can be used and re-used for your projects.
Clay used: Laguna red low fire earthen ware clay without grog.

That's awesome! Getting actual studio sessions are a great way to learn. I am mostly a hand builder and do very little wheel work. But sure, I can definitely think of some functional pottery. But I would also use stoneware clay for that. Currently what I use is earthen ware. Thanks for the suggestion though, I ll definitely come up with some ideas. Thank you so much! Glad my videos help. You can try slow drying your piece. You can cover your with a sheet a plastic, which will slow the speed at which your piece dries. Bend that appears in clay is common and its warping. Don't dry it under the fan or sunlight. Basically avoid speed drying. When its under the plastic sheet, every few hours flip your piece. Hope this helps.

@nehagopinathpillai
@nehagopinathpillai 4 жыл бұрын
That was just experimental from a very very long time ago. I just recently shared pics of that on my pinterest page. I had collaborated with another decoupage artist for that project. She worked on most of them and I did some decoupage on a few terracotta pieces. I am no decoupage expert. I just used some basic decoupage tissues, mod podge and foam brushes and varnish from ITSY BITSY Bangalore and tried my hand at it watching a couple of videos on KZfaq :) But terracotta is a fantastic material, the possibilities are limitless. :)

If it's a little, then you cut off that part and use the rest. You could also mix it up, knead it into the clay well and use. It's a sign of aged clay. It would surely be most plastic and good to use. You can use it but make sure you fire it well. If it's too smelly and you are unable to tolerate it, you can discard it and buy a fresh batch.

I store my clay with a damp cloth in an air tight container . Is that okay?
@nehagopinathpillai
@nehagopinathpillai 4 жыл бұрын
You can just store the clay in a plastic cover and then put it in the air tight box. If you feel your clay is drying you may spray some water on it. You don't need the cloth.
