I went to Marine Corps basic in 1980. Then I had a break in service and I had to go to Army basic training in 1986. We didn't have buses we had cattle cars! We didn't bring personal bags we got what we needed when we got there. And we're told to keep our heading are f****** bags the whole time

I was just there yesterday. My brother graduated.

It’s a different world then it was 30 years ago. We had two injured and out just unloading out of cattle trailers. They averaged two suicide attempts a cycle. There were a few that definitely were not going to make it and they still kept them around relentlessly demoralizing and humiliating them every day. The Drill instructors were feeding off each other and it would get more over the top every day. Being around that was the most difficult part for me. I was so glad to get on a bus to Ft. Sam Houston and forget about all that.

Basic has gotten so cake in the past 10 years. When it came to phases we would have days where we were dropped to mob phase basically instead of a red phase flag or what not. We would be carrying a damn mop haha. But we got smoked all the time

I actually enjoyed being trained in both the M16 and M4s in Leonardwood. And no fights? Cadre told us to take care of any personal issues and disagreements in the showers after lights out as long as it’s not multiple people just jumping someone because he’ll personally fuck us up if we did that. We had hella fights.
