I have always used a shorter shank through top lip. Don’t really get many sandeel our way so it’s not often I have done it. Always had been deadly method though will try it like this sometime

Carperblue Fishing yeah, I’ve never really understood why people use longshanked hooks like Aberdeen’s on live sandeel. Short shank are better

That way sounds ok but wouldn’t you kill the launce if you hook it though the gills 😁

In through the mouth, out through the gill cover (avoiding the gills themselves) then nick the hook point through the underbelly away from the gills

Hi just a random question? Why are some bass greener than others is too with what they eat ? I notice yours were the classic bars of silver but iv seen some local bass (devon) very green?

I've noticed that there are alot of colour variations in bass too. The bigger ones definitely get darker on the back and top of the flanks.

Are you essentially freelining here, how much weight were you using?

I prefer to use a light barrel weight/drilled bullet 5 to 10g depending on the drift speed - hope that helps…. The longer you can make the trace between the weight and the sandeel, the better
