I believe that those lures that you were using are supposed to be fished on top water like a jitterbug. You should reel it faster and they will wobble back and forth and the bass should smack the crap out of them. Just my two cents there 69Chins. 😂 Update: no, my bad you're just supposed to fish it like a slow sinking crankbait with a steady retrieve. I watch some videos on them and they are somewhat less than impressive. 😮

Some lures are meant to catch fish and some lures are meant to catch fisherman. I believe you encountered the latter rather than the former. :-)

Look at all the different colors of the same vintage lure. Some colors do matter but not 10-20. That’s why we collect old lures

There are a few lure colors that are important but action is very important. Don’t think your lure had either. Some vintage lure companies offered several colors of the same lures. Some caught fish while the others caught fishermen. That’s one reason they still hold collectible value.

You need to stop trying to sight fish bass. Keep your distance and cast to the fishy looking structures. Also, learn more about lure action instead of cast & retrieve. Jerk baits for instance need a sort of random twitch. Change up speeds. Stop occasionally. Keep changing it up until you start catching. If one lure doesn’t work, switch to soft plastics and slow walk a 4” Texas rigged grub. Or switch to top water with a Pop-R. Vary the retrievals of all. Try a spinnerbait. Try a buzz bait.
