Speaker Toe-In always seems to stir up some staunch beliefs, speakers must be toed-in, have no toe-in at all, etc...But what about Extreme Toe-in? Vv Click "SHOW MORE" vV
"The List", explosive subwoofers with truly game changing bass: www.subwoofer101.com/best-subw...
Again, I take no credit for this hack, but it's worth trying, so I think it goes well in the bass hack series. It's free, and super easy to try!
I gave no real consideration to angling my speakers like this, but after a viewer mentioned toe-in, I realized I'd never been very adventurous with the speaker angles.
When I tried it I was surprised at the results. It was weird looking, but the sound difference was noticeable. Much easier to pick out the left and right channels, and better balance from seat to seat.
Will this be a good hack for you? Only you will know. Your speakers might not sound great this way, or they might sound fantastic. Experiment and comment below!!
A couple of tips:
You might need to adjust the channels a bit, maybe more left and right, or less center channel. It might be fine as it is, but trust your ears.
If you decide you like it, it might be worth running room correction again.
No seat should be at 90 degrees to the speaker, meaning every seat should be able to see the face of the speaker.
Otherwise this one is pretty simple and straight forward!
Check out my Gain Hack, Adjusting Subs by Ear, Crossover Hack, and Distance Hack videos. The whole "Bass Hack" video series is helpful, but those in particular can make a positive and dramatic difference, FOR FREE:

Hi, Thanks for your videos. Very informative and i like how they are shot, with just a view of your front. I was wondering what you thought about acoustic treatments to the room and if you have experimented with that. I cant see that you have done any in your room. Not even having carpet under your front section, which i have assumed would be a very good thing to have. Any comment on this would be appreciated.

Hey!! Loving the latest content! I'm just about set on pulling the trigger on an entire new KEF Q950 with Q650C, basically St 7.2.4 dolby atmos setup! However I'm curious as to whether I should go dual pb3000s vs a single pb4000 and eventually get a 2nd one later this yeR/early next year. Thoughts??

This is exactly how I have my set up with B&W 804s it’s means more people get a soundstage. One of my seats is right next to one speaker but it’s pointing away from them so they don’t get blasted by the speaker they are sat right next to. #extremetoe

I understand the concept, and the diagram makes perfect sense why the extreme toe in may be advantageous in some setups dependent on seating arrangement, still.........I don't know if I could live with that look. Almost makes me want to slap the speakers for looking at me sideways.

Hi, thank you for the tip. I've did in a jiffy and the first impressions ain't that bad at all. A little hollow, more soundstage, more left and right. This week with more precision and followed with a MultEQ Audyssey. Will come back to you.

@@Subwoofer101 Hi, an update from The Netherlands (Home of Marantz), after a few experiments with toed-in positions (more and less angle) I found the optimized position. As you always suggest, "trust your ears", the positions of both frontspeakers is in my experience a narrow angle along the preferred listening position. Beside this, I used the MultiEQ app for Audyssey, to find the exact frequencies for the Roll-off for every single loudspeaker and subs. In a KZfaq from Kpaceguy he explains the benefits for doing so. Audyssey MultiEq App for Denon & Marantz | Worth $20? see: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ns2DhL2Hs9GddKs.html. Both tips created a beautiful strong 5.4.2 sound stage. With regards, Martin

Extreme toe-in absolutely does work to produce a wider listening window *with controlled directivity (CD) speakers* (e. g. horns and horizontal MTMs; generally - speakers specifically designed to have narrow horizontal dispersion). It doesn't work as well for regular, more omni-directional speakers.
@cwhiting
@cwhiting Жыл бұрын
so its good for klipsch speakers?
@VioletGiraffe
@VioletGiraffe Жыл бұрын
@@cwhiting, the ones with a compression driver in a deep horn - yes, absolutely (e. g. Heritage). The more mainstream ones like R and RP series - no, I don't think those have narrow enough dispersion, but I may be wrong.

I've tested it out with extreme toe-in and a regular setup... and it's hard to hear much of a difference. I'm not an audio expert at all, so I'm not the best person to judge. I read where someone wrote on another forum that extreme toe-in is for the purpose of making all of the speakers sound equally flawed if you're sitting off to the side. It does seem to accomplish that. When I sit on the right of the screen I'm too far from the left speaker and hear too much of the right speaker... but with it toed in, I get less of the right, so it does sound a little better... maybe. If there is a difference it's small, I'm not entirely sure I'm not imagining it. When I stood in the center of the room I couldn't tell any difference between extreme toe-in or none at all. I'm going to leave them toed in, because why not. It definitely doesn't sound any worse that way.

Would this further make the sound more bright? Waiting to try it out but my system is already sounding bright.
@Subwoofer101
@Subwoofer101 Жыл бұрын
It's more likely to reduce brightness than it is to increase it, because you are off axis. I'm not sure which AVR you might be using, but I find "Reference" to be more bright and offensive than "Flat" when it comes to Audyssey on Denon and Marantz products. Some speakers are brighter than others, and I prefer a more neutral sound. Also, some speakers are brighter when you first get them, and tend to mellow out after a few weeks of listening.

I know it was a night and day change to my home theater center channel when I brought the infinity beta that had the adjustable tilt. Having the tweeter aiming at you gave it brighter sound so I believe this will work. As far as the look, yes it look crazy but it doesn’t have to stay that way. When it’s movie time you just adjust them and then turn them back. As far with music, I’m not sure that toe In would matter due to most people don’t listen to music on a powerful system to meditate and try to figure out what music tones are coming from a certain speaker. We are usually dancing or playing a good game of chess so when company comes over the normal look is what they would see.

Works great for mono records! Tried it over and over with several records and it gives a more full sound but you completely lose the stereo experience( i only have a 2.1 system) Win some db's maybe? But it is great fun to experiment with angles on your speakers. Try this with this great record and you will notice that the stereo completely disappears when you toe them in extremely. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbaSgdN6rJ7cj6c.html

I have kef 5005 been playing around with toe in listening to music I can get the phantom image so as the singer sounds like he/she is almost literally 45 degrees singing from the side of you it freaks people out its weird try crossing them uneven and sit off access e.g left speaker pointing right at you while sitting in front of the right speaker and just slowly move the right speaker towards the left little by little the singer sounds like he's out in the room it sounds like the sounds bouncing off the wall but the speakers are pointing inwards

Makes zero sense to me, but I will give it a shot. Every room is different as is everyone's ear, but we can only get the sound that we prefer the most by trying different peoples ideas and adopting changes that we like and ignoring ones we don't. We never improve if we never try.

Haha. Just no.. Research any "good" speaker manufacturers recommendations of seating position of their speakers.. It's one reason they spend so much money on the getting the tweeter at the correct seating height. Not so you can shoot it at a wall. Haha. Next you'll be wearing your headphones 45 degrees off axis. haha. No.
