Dude same. I've been playing since I'm like 12 I'm 28 now 😅 I'm one of the weird guys that has excellent technique and a good ear but absolutely no knowledge of the neck or why things work together. I just hard memorized everything but only know how it sounds, not what it is.

Finally, finger presses can be discerned via that little graphic animation...and highleted finger on the fretboard....also you (finally) tie in the significance of scales, notes and shapes (patterns). Thank you Buzz.

Hey Josh, I just want to thank you for making the videos that you do. I’ve been playing bass for almost 5 months now. I take lessons but those are only once a week. But people like you and Scott Devine have helped me so much into speeding up my progress. Watching your videos like this has helped me move around the fretboard easier, better technique, and this video where you give good tips on scales. I love these videos man

I haven't made it all the way to the end yet... and I've been working on what I've watched so far. I just wanted to stop and say THANK YOU. I've been playing guitar and bass from close to 30 years (totally embarrassed to say that), and your teaching is the first time the 'theory' side of things has ever made any sense to me. I could cry, I'd give you a big hug if I could (You: "Please don't"). I think this is really going to lift my music up from the rut I'm in, and it'll be way more fun to 'play'. So Thanks, again, you're brilliant!

This is an excellent lesson for beginners. I think it is funny how the thumbnail says not to use the full fretboard visualization technique, but that is probably the best the next step after these beginner suggestions. The "copy paste" step is a good way to start to learn the full fretboard, but after that IMO it is best to learn the positions from the nut to the bridge. There is no need to jump directly to "The Beast" exercise, but it is very helpful to start working on position shifting and visualizing the full fretboard right after learning this "box" scale.
