My first bass was a Fender Duff McKagan Signature PJ. It was nice, but I always wanted a Thunderbird. I finally got my Gibson Thunderbird yesterday, and sold my Fender PJ.

One musical instrument manufacturer is creating all sorts of crossovers and alternative tuning instruments. It would be quite easy to step on the pedal and feed the GAS with them. Look at the cheapest and the most expensive out there, then pay your bills and save your money. Come back when you can afford it lol.

I love his music best when it almost doesnt even have a genre, like that weird metal type song he did with Kendrick on untitled unmastered.. cant remember which track but it has the real heavy drums and horns in the intro and this weird looping bassline thats in like a different time signature. It almost sounds like rage against the machine or death grips but its also super jazzy and fusion inspired.

What's everyones opinions on the Yamaha TRBX 304's mist green color? i personally love how sleek and relaxing it is, thats why i was so shocked to find a few people that think it's awkward looking 😂😅

Damn, Ive just wasted 12.23sec watching this when i've already spent a fortune on all the basses i'll (n)ever need and i'm no better off than i was 12.23 secs ago, so now i've lost that critical 12.23 secs that would have been all the time i needed to turn me from an OK bass player to as great a player as Josh, Double damn !!!!!

Interestingly enough, the other song suited for CPR is "Stayin' Alive". I guess it is a little more optimistic about the outcome.

You forgot the singable anthem quality of the "Dean Town" bass line (Vulfpeck) - which ticks none of your boxes. 😂

Over complicated description for what is basically a solid funk baseline. It’s genius because Queen infused it with their style. KZfaq is once again just promoting mediocrity. Scraping the dead scales of glory from what was once true glory. In 1982. The algorithm wants us to look backwards and not make anything new. It’s easier to rehash as we bite the dust.

No one starts on a five or four string acoustic guitar. They don't make 3-string violins or one-register pianos. If you want to play a 5-string, get a 5-string. You will learn it just like anything else.

Great work on passing along timeless concepts! I'm an old bassist (formerly with Brian Faith Band of SB,CA); have been out to pasture for a couple of decades. It's great to see the upcoming examples of new talent, I think there are exciting times ahead in the world of new music... 😎

man... Lullaby or Fascination Street from the Cure, too. Lullaby's just fun to play. Billie Jean's a nice warmup too. (OK, or annoyance if you try to do the octave on the first note in the riff, repeatedly - my thumb doesn't do that.)

You can also use "Stayin' Alive" for CPR... which makes more sense. Of course, it probably depends on the circumstances.

Unpopular opinion: getting your tone "perfect" doesn't matter in a live setting. As long as you're close, 90% of the crowd won't even notice. With that being said, I'd spend the extra $200 on a TRBX504/505 that basically fixes all of the issues talked about with the 304 in the video, including an act/pass switch and the pickups not being cut out. Its quite a bit nicer too.

It was pretty common for audio engineers to speed up the master recording to give the tracks more energy and punch but that was usually reserved for the Radio-play versions, while the album versions were almost always recorded at the composed tempo. As to why Queen eventually decided to make this a bit fast, well it's obvious: the original take was too low energy and actually pretty boring, so instead of re-mastering the entire track they just bumped the speed up a couple cents (studio time was no less expensive then) and voila! instant classic.

Can you tell please why my bass rattle at open stirngs but when I touch strings (even behind the nut) or unplug second pickup - rattling disappears? Is it some electricity problem of cheap guitar?

As a beginner in the literal meaning of the term, not a beginner from another instrument, not a beginner who has learned the basics, but a true beginner, I find it a huge barrier that every bass teacher for beginners chooses songs that are too hard, or that only have an easy riff, but the rest of the song is impossible for a true beginner. Can we please start with a song which is slow and easy from beginning to end? Beginners need enough time to get their hands and fingers in position, figure out muting, play along in time and pick the stirngs properly. That is a ton to keep track of. A song please, that's slow, easy, just quarter notes, beginning to end. Not just riffs, not just intros, but a recognizable song easy enough that you could put a bass in the hands of someone who has never played an instrument, and can play along. I hope you take this to heart Josh.

I think Dougie Thomson deserves more love. The bassist from Supertramp is a great musician. The Crime Of The Century album would not sound the same without his contribution on the instrument, he gives it the exact balance.

If you heard me playing bass and if you saw me trying to do things on a computer you would think I don't know if he's worse on the base or on a computer 🤣😭 The relevance is I'm terrible at finding things online, but I'm going to look on your really great presentation method to see if you have videos for minor scales and pentatonic or as I call them pentagonic and let's face it. the pentagonic blue scale has 6 notes and pentagons have only five pointy bits. I don't want too much theory to suppress my free range. random mistake strewn playing style but it's so interesting and I do come from a maths background but that was decades ago. also, thank you for not introducing your videos with the hey you guys compulsory intro. Great presentation style
