I like how they say Bassai. Not Bassai-dai. There was no Dai or Sho when Funakoshi sensei taught Shotokan. Just Bassai. Same thing with Kanku.

Is the man holding his breath? His mouth is mostly closed. Looks very tense.

He is a JKA original. I believe it is Master Osaka. He is breathing but you are right, it is easier with your mouth open.

Traditional bunkai by JKA Masters. Today we have adapted new ideas to the bunkai but this is the traditional applications as taught by Nakayama.

@@normrobitza One of two: either Funakoshi did not teach Nakayama the real applications, or he is keeping them secret.
@normrobitza3 жыл бұрын
@@sassuki I agree with you 100%. This was a common thread in the past. Teach your top students the secrets but no one else. Funakoshi probably only taught his son the real bunkai.

Or he taught no one because he didn’t know. I think he might of but never passed it on. Look at the way okinawan students of Goju do bunkai kumite against the way Goju Kai do it. Almost like learning a new kata.

Applicazioni tutte quante insensate e irrealizzabili. Purtroppo all'epoca i giapponesi non si presero la briga di andare ad Okinawa per farsi spiegare i bunkai.
@normrobitza3 жыл бұрын
What so many seem to not understand is that these applications are only a simple bunkai. Basically to give the JKA students and idea. Bunkai should match the kata. Oyo is making it come alive and freeing it from the embusen. I would teach basic bunkai to lower ranking students then teach alternatives to higher ranking students.

@@normrobitza understood but then what 's the point ? teach how to fight and face real violence, not ritual masturbation- sorry for my opinion-, I did years of this, it is just a ritual no matter how you slice it, thanks.
@normrobitza3 жыл бұрын
@@OverSooll I don't disagree. The traditional bunkai for Shotokan is very weak. So many only learn this basic method. If they learn bunkai at all. Believe me that is also a fact. Some don't even learn this basic application. There are different levels of "bunkai". Bunkai follows the kata and embusen exactly. It is an application associated with the kata. Then there is Oyo. This is the breaking down and analyzation of the movements within the kata. The techniques presented work, just they are not the best techniques for these actions. Also many that I have seen presented online as alternatives are not really that great. And many are illegal for self defense in the situation of the attack presented. My new channel will look at this once the Covid-19 restrictions in my area allow us to do partner work again. Check out The Shotokan Chronicles. kzfaq.info/love/84Kb2U63N49mSGQdvBKEfw

Hmmm, tell that to the American GI's, big and tough farm boys from Iowa and Texas who got regular whoopings from Japanese half their size in Tokyo and Okinawa bars. There is a reason these guys were impressed by karate and imported it stateside when they returned home.
@danielefontana9517 Жыл бұрын

I like the kata being ran over and over from different angles. But come on, the bunkai is ya ok for beginners.
