I miss the old days 😪 Such magic that will never be seen again . Ray and Bob will never be replaced . The hope that an every day Joe like myself could dream and live out that dream of fishing the trail . It is financially out of reach of the every day hard working person now . A sport for the rich . Thanks Ray and Bob for the great memories .

This series is excellent! So important for people to be educated on the formative years is BASS (60’s-70’s) the golden era (mid 80’s - 2000) and then the explosion and expansion of the sport (early 2000’s - Today) I will say one thing. Ray Scott if still alive would NOT be allowing some of the modern tech in his tournaments had he still owned BASS.

Ray was the ultimate businessman, I wouldn’t be so bold to speak for him and put words in his mouth about current fishing decisions. Just be proud he existed and created a league that would evolve, adapt and change. 🙏🏻

I know this because I remember him distinctly commenting about braided line and how “unsporting it was to haul the bass in so quickly they don’t have time to fight” Ray went on to say “Had I still be the majority owner in BASS I would consider instilling a max line weight rule. Like 4-8lb test”. His reasoning was that way the anglers are forced to actually fight the fish methodically back to the boat. I don’t think I’m wrong in my saying he’d be against some of the tech today.

Any of these stories or documentaries on Bass Fishing makes me miss my Father a whole lot. I never really cared much for Bass fishing but for the past few years I decided to get into it because of my Dad's memory.

Great show. I love my society. Thank you B.A.S.S. 33:54: The 1972 Rebel Invitational was actually the 5th event of the season, not the 2nd. This series, with its interviews and detailed accounts is going to be great, just like the (old) Bassmaster Classic Yearbook's put on by ESPN and B.A.S.S.

I respect and commend Ray Scott very much for his efforts in creating B.A.S.S.!!!!! Ray was a businessman and still to this day the professional tours are run by businessmen. The sport hasn’t grown nearly the amount that the NFL and NBA have. As far as how much the “pros” are making for their efforts. What if??? Anglers started professional fishing not a businessman? I feel this is a valid question

B.A.S.S is an admirable society committed to the preservation of bass in the USA. However when the same ethos is practiced in areas of the world where bass have become a serious threat to the survival of native fish species the wheels kind of fall off. I have been a catch and release angler for around 40 years now and, living in South Africa after having a rod in my hand for the first time at the age of five along the shores of Lake Ontario and being brought up with guidance from my dad I continued to release every bass I caught after my family moved to South Africa and I discovered that there was a first class fishery over here. Northern largemouth and smallmouth were introduced in the 1920's and 30's and have since been established in most freshwater streams, rivers and impoundments. The basses as we know eat basically anything that moves in the water and this unfortunately includes the many indigenous barb and bream (tilapia) species in SA., which is not as blessed as North America with as many lakes and rivers. It seems to me that ever since the Florida sub-strain of bass was introduced here things have gotten far worse for the native fishes and aquatic wildlife. I have personally seen many waters which were once full of yellowfish (a type of barb) and tilapia slowly change into exclusively bass habitat as they are gradually wiped out. What remains is a river or lake which contains only small bass and big bass which eat their offspring. There are many B.A.S.S members in SA and a thriving sport fishing industry which relies on customers catching and releasing bass, trout and carp (two other problem fish). A while ago I became aware of the threat that exotic invader species pose to biodiversity and after a lot of soul searching decided that the right thing to do was to remove any and all of these problem fish as possible, so as to be in natures' good books and undo the harm that I have done by releasing them back into the water in days gone by. I wish that bass were native to the whole world as I love them and really enjoy fly and lure fishing for them and trout. This isn't true though and so although I wish B.A.S.S. well in the States, I remain committed to taking out all of the fish that don't belong here. Tight lines and everything of the best to everyone involved in the sport for the coming year.

If only he knew that in 2023 it would take 150k of extra pocket money to fish his tournaments...a true elitist sport. If it cost 5k to get into its elitist. If it takes 30 times that you can't argue its not elitist and that was not his vision
