Got the one at 4:35 it’s honestly pretty good but you do have a fair point. In my opinion I think it’s more of a slasher knife to hold blade up instead of the usual karambit hold…def not for beginners at it, it’s something for someone that knows what to do with it. Any knife is as useless as a stick if not used properly

Some of these karambits from masalong and canku are amazing quality, i actually prefer the d2 steel to a lot of steels out there. It can be hard to sharpen but it can get razor sharp and hold the edge. I love karambits too. I like the ones that dont curve quite as much too. My favorite karambit style knife is not a curved blade at all, its the tops c.u.t. 4.0. Its got a finger loop, a spear point and a saber grind. Its a great all purpose knife for bushcraft, edc, whatever. You have a good collection, but you are missing my 2 favorite masalong and canku ones, they dont have crazy serrations or shapes, the blades are the perfect shape, one curves far out, one doesnt have quite the curve. They also make a small one called the killer bee, its a copy of the tops small karambit but it is way better, it has handle scales where the tops is just bare metal, etc. great vid

@@ronaldowens5025 It's the opposite. The karambit was never a farm tool. It was invented as a weapon by mimicking animals claws. It was tool for hunters and gatherers. Later when people began farming and agriculture, they began making farming tools that mimicked the karambit.

Honestly a good video. It's highly doubtful that any of these are actually d2. And I'm a fan of canku. By the way though the traditional karambit is double edged. Half of what you learn in silat would be useless with a single edged blade. Just saying

Im not sure about the canku brand of karambits but the masalong karambits on amazon are indeed d2 steel and not just the blade it d2 full tang. My buddy is a Metallurgist and he was able to confirm that one for me with scartch tests and a few other things i know nothing about lol. You are right in the respect that most of the cheaper blades i have are not what they say but i did have one china blade that said 440 but it actually ended up being more along the lines of s30v from what i was told, the rest of the china blades pretty crap but not bad for the price.

The Canku "D2" has a validated HRC of 59-60 so it is likely properly heat treated D2 or at the least a steel with much better edge retention than the normal soft stainless we see.

2:45 This is absolutely a realistic edc. It’s small, inconspicuous, usable in almost every application I need it for as a roofer/construction worker. Mine has grime all over it from adhesive material I don’t want my folding knives digging in. As far as self defense… one can use an ink pen pretty well. Anything with an edge is good. The bigger the knife and more menacing….. the more the police are going to question your motives and sanity.

Also, a “fighting karambit” is going to be double edged, and should have a sharp point on the ring.

I bought a pika karambit years ago, the edge of the blade chipped a bit and it needs to be retipped, the kydex sheath had little retention, I bought the canku pika style karambit and they've all held up extremely well. I carry either a pika or the smaller safe maker push dagger @my1oclock (since I carry my m&p at my 4-5,spare mags @7-9and my pepper spray @11) whenever I'm off duty and conceal. Only draw back is sometimes stuff'll get caught on the ring/handle and pull away, cracking the kydex around the base of the blade. I just end up buying another since a kydex sheath's around $20 anyway, might as well get a free blade with it! I was curious about the look& length of the canku Karambit with the cog like safety ring. I'm sold! Blades are to make space, the smaller the blade the easier the concealability, they're also meant to be felt, not seen, a tiny blade works wonders!!!

the basteneli clone and other variant with the 1 1/2 inch blade would make a great concealable edc self defence tool ofc i would rather have my cold steel smachet, gurkha or trail master along with my M 48 tactical hawk if SHTF or if there was a Zombie attack but as an edc self defence item i tend to carry my urban pal push dagger, a 5 1/2 inch zombie killer neck knife which has a decent half serrated blade along with index finger ring which i really like and i have been carrying a triple kill spike and delta dart because i can get them in even a night club or 5 star hotel with no issue i always carry a multitool for utility and another knife for 100% self defence you would be surprised at the damage that 1 1/2 inch clone karambit blade would do against flesh if its maintained well if you dont try fancy strikes stick to simple X pattern and cross pattern strikes that thing is a lethal stealth self defence item

I agree with you a smaller edge karambit wouldnt be too useful for like traditional karambit style knife fighting but I do not agree with the notion that that makes it not useful for self defense purposes, I think smaller blades are actually some of my favorite for that because you can actually cut people with them without accidentally killing anybody -my personal belief is that if you think your actually going to have to use it against other human beings it's a lot safer and easier to keep a smaller blade instead of a fking gut hook because you dont have to think or worry as much and if your in a situation like that already it kinda makes it very difficult to not make a mistake that could potentially ruin the rest of your life especially when these larger blades dont have a double edge people think that makes it safer but actually in most real life circumstances makes it more dangerous because you have no choice but to full force stab somebody instead of cutting them up a lil bit till they take the hint, not to mention how much more useful smaller blades or at least double edge karmbits are for non skilled/trained knife fighters n women who dont got the time for all that fancy bullshit yk, no disrespect to the art but I think it makes it a lot more practical easier and safer for a majority of people who buy karambits because let's face it- especially with the more affordable ones- most not quite knife people if u know what I'm saying gravitate toward karambits because they just look fkn cool so I think we should be promoting smaller or double edge blades a lot more than we discourage them

I'm not sure how many self-defense situations you have been in when your life was in danger, or how many times you have had to deploy a weapon capable of inflicting lethal wounds, but you really should think about what you said. Saying you cut him with a small knife so as not to kill him just cut him up is like saying I pulled out my gun & shot him in the leg. If you are in that much control you are likely not threatened to the point of being in fear for your life, and an attorney will have so much fun with that. If you draw a weapon whether a firearm, big knife, or little knife you better be feel you are in grave danger & ready to use violence of action to stop the attacker(s) as quickly as possible. Also Bastinelli the designer of several of these knives, & Doug Marcaida who collabed on a few of them have videos up especially showing cut tests on denim sleeves filled with a pork roast. Even the diminutive Pika can easily cut deep enough to sever muscle, tendons, nerves as well as arteries & veins in the neck, arm, & leg. Also if you were to forcefully stab into the torso you could compress the rib cage enough to pierce the heart or lungs, & definitely could puncture the liver or kidneys with a powerful stab to the abdomen. To reach an artery would be even easier. The moral of the story is if you draw a knife against an attacker with your intent to scare them you will likely die, If you are being attacked & are only trying to land superficial cuts you will likely die. You need to meet their aggression with surprise & more aggression if you draw a weapon you need to be ready that they may not stop until dead or incapacitated from blood loss in other words about to die. You can't half-ass this otherwise you & your weapon are more of a danger to yourself. Also legally in your defense you simply were in fear of your life & you took action to make them stop, & once they stopped you stopped. That right there is the basis of legal defense for using a firearm or weapon against an attacker. I am open to discussion if you or someone else things I am wrong in general or on certain points afterall that is what this comment section is for not just trolling.

@@harvestblades I agree 100% and was going to say the same. I am cutting to keel if it's true self defense. I'm not in a fight club with rules. A little pika will eviscerate someone with one swipe like a zipper. I swear, video games, movies, and Martial art training has made everyone delusional

I haven't seen the MPI on the Canku D2, but I have seen the HRC which runs 59-60 which is where D2 should be. Also, your large Canku is another Bastinelli clone the Kalinou. Don't disregard the Pika (the little guy) it is a deadly little knife & is a great backup weapon. Are you going to carry the big Kalinou or the small Pika karambit with you every day? Probably not, but that Pika is so easy to conceal & forget you even have it until you need it. Its size also makes it very effective should you be attacked in your vehicle, a small space, or even get taken down with an attacker on you. It is hard to draw let alone utilize a large blade in those situations especially if they see it now you are fighting for a weapon. I got mine yesterday, & happened to have a pork butt going on the smoker so I did try some slashes, & stabs & it will ruin anyone's day in a hurry. The best weapon is the one your attacker doesn't know you have so we use these Canku Bastinelli clones as backup knives that should we be attacked & being grappled by an attacker we can deploy the knife proceed to ruin their day so that I can create space & draw a firearm. Also, my kids will be carrying these & should they lose it I'm out $25! I do recommend using a UltiClip instead of the knockoff TekLok as it is much lower profile & gives you a ton of carry options even beltless on gym shorts. Speaking of size sure a bigger knife or karambit can be more effective at cutting, slicing, chopping or stabbing, but just like the reason I carry a compact handgun daily vs an AK is it is a hassle to carry a rifle everywhere whereas my pistol is unnoticeable. WE also live in a rather sheeplike environment where people get scared seeing a big "tactical" knife like a karambit so you will draw attention which should be a no no.

For fighting they're utter garbage in general karambits don't make good fighting blades, and if you land a cut the bigger blade will do more damage. For an oh shit wtf situation where someone's on top of you you wouldn't need a big. In knife duels you want a big straight blade to fence with

It’s not about the quantity but quality. If your happy buy lower grade knives the awesome. But don’t compare them to the high grade ones. Nice video overall
