The Philippine officials are encouraging the citizens of Batanes to join the reservists. I suggest to the Philippine senate to appropriate budget so the reservists can be trained and get some incentives. There are occasions that these reservists will undergo training, classroom study, as well as civic engagements. These people have no other means of providing income for their family except fishing, farming, and menial jobs in the island. It will be a great help for them to get a receive a little help.

Instead of adding more expense to another branch for reservists, the PH Gov't should just bolster its Professional Military aka AFP. This is a new age for the PH, and a strong military should be one of its priorities if it wants to reinforce their borders.

Philippines was just warry against China's expansionism. If they annexed Taiwan they could slowly expand their borders and might even claim batanes and nearby islands there and also claim another 9 dashline in East Philippines Sea. Not only China had claims in West Philippine Sea but also will claim East Philippine Sea and the only option there was war. So its not a question whether why Philippines had decide to station troops in Batanes. China with large navy and military budget could claim the West and East Philippines Sea by continously patrolling there and that is not something Philippines want to see .. Philippines had seen the consequences of not protecting its island as spratlys or kalayaan island was stolen vy the Vietnamese and China during Philippine Civil War. And by arming the region of Batanes it would be impossible for China to expand there unless they want to wage war and this is why China is angry. China had probably a 50 year expansion plan and stealing island in Batanes after Taiwan annexation is possible. However, what the Philippines had done had ruined most of their plan. Thankfully, Philippines is not a middle power country they could still threaten thr Philippines to give those islands willingly.

China won't annex Taiwan because Taiwan is a part of the PRC. As the US. It's called the one China policy where Taiwan is a part of the PRC. A for the South China Sea, the RP had no claims when it was a US colony and had no claims until exploration of the SCS revealed oil and gas potentials. I suggest you read up on the history on what transpired after WW2 by western powers and even Japan. It seems everyone has amnesia. China had claims to the Paracel and Spratly Islands before WW2 and these islands pretty much outline the nine dash line that China claims. The RP didn't exist as a sovereign state until after WW2. "After World War II, the Spratly Islands were noted by the British High Commission of Singapore as territory that was returned to China. In 1971, the following statement was made: “Spratly Island was a Chinese dependency, part of Kwangtung Province…and was returned to China after the war. We cannot find any indication of its having been acquired by any other country and so can only conclude it is still held by communist China. (Far Eastern Economic Review, December 31, 1974).” It should be noted that this was outside of any major conflict in the modern period in the South China Sea (1930-1945, 1945-1956, 1974), and made after an exhaustive study was concluded by the U.K. Foreign and Commonwealth Office. It can therefore can be considered a reasoned statement of recognition made by a knowing and authoritative governmental source who was based in the Southeast Asian before and during World War II. The consistent nature of other statements made by Britain France and Japan suggest that these nations have historically taken the same position as China, and made public statements to that effect. For example, France occupied the Paracel Islands in the 1930s during the war between China and Japan. The occupation took place over a year after France had refused to abolish its extraterritorial rights in China, which had been held since 1844." All these claims disappeared after WW2. Hong Kong was the last colonial claim returned to China.

Agree, drone tech seems to be a better suit for the PH as it is kinda cheaper. Big guns are still essential, but with limited budgets, they should start stocking up some drones too. It seems to be of great use in the UE/RUS war at the moment.

Supplies to China needed to develop another route that is geographically very expensive and very long to build. Batanes region of the Philippines will have a problem if China takes Taiwan. This is because the China EEZ will now extend to the southern part of Taiwan. The entire Batanes region and Philippine strait will be inside China's 200 nautical miles EEZ. This means Chinese ships will start harassing Philippine ships and fishing boats in that area just like in West Philippine sea.
