Batch Export Multiple Files with Affinity Designer

In this tutorial I’ll be demonstrating how to batch export multiple files at once, in a variety of different formats, using Affinity Designer’s Batch Persona.
This is a feature Illustrator has that I’ve always enjoyed using, and it’s great for when you’re finalizing a logo design and need to generate a variety of different formats and color variations. Normally, you would have to save/export each of those files one-by-one, but a batch export feature allows you to get it all done in one shot.
If you want to learn more about logo design, be sure to check out my Logo Design Academy - an interactive 18-part video course where you will learn my entire creative process for coming up with logo ideas and implementing them: logosbynick.com/learn/

Just some tips... 1. Instead of using Artboard, we can just create Slices in Export Persona... 2. We can select multiple Layers/Slices at once with Shift key to pasting export format for faster workflow... 3. Affinity can automatically create folder path, just expand the Slices and u will find Path setting | thanks to @Piotrek... And great tutorial as always :)

This video literally almost made me cry! I watched the entire video with my jaw hanging open! I am a self taught novice at vector graphic design, and I have been using Inkscape for years. Although not as elegantly as you, I create multiple versions of a file and export it to multiple file versions. This usually takes hours!! You did it in ten minutes. I am absolutely blown away. I am going to have to make the switch to Affinity Designer. Thank you so much Nick for what you do. You dedicate a lot of time and energy to making us better designers, and I greatly appreciate it.

Thank you so much for this tutorial - it works! If anyone has problem when you see that the artboard you created is empty, it just means you cannot grouped them. The icons/images/etc needs to be singular, on a plain background. Then each of them becomes its own artboard. In the export persona, you can select one, pick the setting > copy to clipboard. Then shift click all of them (that you want to export) > paste setting. Then export! Yay!

I purchased the Affinity suite last week and I have decided fully switched over from Inkscape. I do miss some of the tools like envelope distortion in Inkscape but Affinity feels more refined and I'm liking it's tool set much more. I just found out about Affinity Designer's amazing isometric cube tools, I'm sure you know of it by now. I am looking forward to more Affinity tutorials as I'm a fan of your Inkscape tutorials!

Tip for unchecking (radio buttons now in V2 as of today) or checking all Slices in Slices tab at once. First, Click top Slice in list, Shift-click bottom Slice (or last you want) in list. Then, click on the, for example, top Slice item's checkbox (again, now a radio button or round circle with a dot in it). Also, this works with the Export Format (e.g. .jpg, .pdf, etc. related settings.) As of February 2, 2023.

I'm sure Nick knows this, but for anyone new to Affinity Designer... With the selection tool, click off the canvas, select the "document setup" tab below the top toolbar, in the setup box click the "color" tab and check the "Transparent background". When you close the box you'll have a standard checkerboard background where you can see white objects, the background will still export as transparent.

So if you put a name like Lockup/Logodesign Mono for the artboard names, it will automatically create a folder called Lockup and put the Logodesign Mono.png file there. I just discovered this by accident. I think its a bug, but you can use it like a feature.

If you try this with nested groups (nothing fancy) the Artboard is made in very unpredictable place in the root. So this can't be used as a generic tool for multiple exports

If anyone is annoyed by the white background from the artboards, you can change that in the settings by doing Edit > Preferences > User Interfaces > Artboard Background Grey Level. All you have to do is bring it down to match Background Grey Level.
