Brilliantly written, produced, directed and performed. Such a beautifully bitter sweet ending to a wonderful series. I love that Norman had a few minutes of clarity and returned to the sweet norman from season one just briefly with Dylan. I hope this show gets showered with Emmys, so deserving. Thank you for telling such an incredible story!

I like how Norman having a full mental breakdown and believing he's reliving the events of the first episode of the show parallels Norma saying they were starting over back in Season 1 and Norman said "Maybe some people don't get to start over." So this is a callback to that because Norman's trying to mentally "start over" after everything that's happened.

The best part of the episode to me was the ending. How as he was dying, he saw the light, the light of his mother. As he was running towards her that's when it was hard for me to hold it back, beautiful cinematography, hauntingly beautiful score, as it cuts to him as a child hugging her as well. In my opinion they couldn't have ended this series any better than they did. Tragically beautiful. What a phenomenal show. And to see Emma and Dylan's daughter running towards him in the end was the best ending for them. They both deserved happiness, and they got it. They got exactly what they deserved all along.

And it makes sense that it showed Norman as a child because he was basically a little boy who never grew up. In Season 3 Emma actually compared herself and Norman to Peter Pan and Wendy.

I agree. Many people speculate Norma and Norman's relationship has a dark nature, but I believe it is nothing more than the pure love of a mother and child at heart. You can see it in their eyes. This is only thing that brings me peace, knowing Norma and Norman are together in the after life, right where they belong. And even though we only saw Norma and Norman reunite, who's to say Romero isn't in the picture too. Afterall, Norma said it herself, she will always love him. And love finds a way. Together, they have what they always wanted, a happy family. Seeing Dylan and Emma happy with their child made me so happy as well. It is the silverlining in this storm of darkness that has finally passed. They were always on the outside looking in when it came to this drama and pain. But nevertheless, were dragged into it. They deserved so much happiness too and finally got it. I don't care what anyone says, on the surface, this show is about drama, action, and seemingly a thriller, but deep down inside, this shoe was and always has been about love. That's why I loved it so much. The love that exists between mother and child. Between siblings, between partners. At the end of the day, that's all that matters. Bittersweet, beautiful ending. And I can't help myself from saying, that's all I really want too. To be with my mother. Even if she does not view me as her special daughter. There is no one you can love more than family. Your parents, no matter what gender, are your first true loves. It just depends who you grow up with...Beautiful ending.

Bates Motel's strong point was having a set amount of seasons. The writers knew what they wanted to do from start to finish, and they ended the series with a satisfying ending. I think other shows should take note and not be afraid to end their show in a certain amount of seasons because I think that's what helped Bates Motel the most.

Wow, a show that can make you feel bad for a murderous boy/teen/man. Didn't think I would see that coming when I started tearing up in this episode. Honestly, this show deserves all the Emmys it could get; it was amazingly well written and has a great cast that played their parts. There was nowhere in the story that felt dull, I felt engaged the whole.time and I give this show an A+. I'm looking forward to Vera and Freddie part-taking any roles in other shows/films in the future. Bates Motel and Breaking Bad are my top spots for best TV shows at the moment haha. Yes...that is how greatly I'm praising this show.

What gets me is the "You know everything now, there's nothing for me to protect you from" She was the only thing he needed protecting from. Everything he did, she made him do without him even knowing it. So this Norma personality thing just basically says "You know everything now, you're a murderer even though I made you this way, and they want to execute you sooo yeah.. have fun dealing with all of this. I'm out" She basically just came, screwed his life up, then left.

I get the last part, but 'mothers' soul purpose was to PROTECT norman, without the mother persona he would've seen hurt through his own eyes not 'mothers' and his father and other villains out there trying to harm norma or anyone else norman cared about would of succeed for example his father who was heavily abusive, was killed by norman because he was on the verge of killing norma so 'mother' kicked in then as norman came back to reality he didn't remember hurting his father because thats a part if how 'mother' protects norman
@theplayerstation9834
@theplayerstation9834 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah there were a couple people she protected him from, but she still took it too far. She acted like he needed protecting from the entire world. He didn't need protecting from his teacher he killed, or from Emma's mom, "Mother" just killed them because she didn't like what they were doing. A good few of the people he killed were not a threat to his safety lol
@Xehanort10
@Xehanort10 6 жыл бұрын
That's because Norman originally created his split personality in response to his dad Sam's abuse of him and Norma. He created it to deal with things he couldn't cope with but because of his obsession with his mother his other personality became an evil version of Norma based on Norman's warped interpretation of the real Norma. He believed that Norma had the same incestuous crush on him that he had on her, that the reason she wouldn't let him have a girlfriend was because she wanted him to herself and was jealous of any woman he was attracted to, that she'd kill any woman he was attracted to. And even though she was only overprotective and controlling to try and protect Norman from his own mental illness he believed she was a control freak who wanted to rule his life. Anything the Mother personality did was something Norman believed the real Norma would do.

However, when Dylan was sitting on the steps, I thought he would turn around, see the lights on in the house and say...'''Mother?" Lol, especially after killing Norman. That was very traumatic for him. I thought he'd go crazy, but I'm glad he didn't. I'm happy Dylan and his family were happy. Fantastic ending!!!

Growing up, Dylan's probably seen things too. I think he's mentally strong like Norma. Norma's been through a lot and for a way longer time than Dylan or Norman-- with her parents, brother when she was younger, her two husbands before moving to Oregon.. Dylan's more of Norma that way than Norman.. Only Norman is not strong mentally.

I cried SO MUCH during the ending (tears were flowing down my face). Norman tried to stab Dylan on purpose so he could die and be with his mother again. That's all he wanted. The ending was so touching, sad, and beautiful seeing him running into her arms. Norman finally reunited with his mother who waited for him in Heaven - his REAL mother that we knew and loved from Season 1-4, and not the psychotic mother in his mind. The show ended beautifully. 💙😥

Chick's burned Caleb's body. The only ones who knew that he was dead were Norman and Chick, no one else had a clue that he even went to White Pine Bay. So It makes perfect sense for Dylan not end up even hearing about it.

its sadder that even we dont know if Norman's doctor was killed. He might have been killed.

It was heavily implied earlier in the season that something happened since Norman had been reading a newspaper in the coffee shop opposite Madeleine's store that had a headline stating that citizens had raised concerns over Pineview's security and as we know from Season 4 "Mother" didn't want Norman revealing so much about his past to the doctor.

Mother didn't want Dr Edwards to make Norman remember that Norma had been raped by Sam when she tried to get away from his abuse with Norman and Dylan. So after Norman blacked out Mother must have taken control, broke into Pineview and killed Edwards to stop that from happening because she knew that Norman being restored to sanity would destroy her.

It's so sad but I'm happy for the bates family they all find the happiness. Norma and Norman's love can not survive in this cruel world now they can be together like they always wanted just both of them .Dylan found the love and the family that he always wanted sometimes life takes something and gives you something instead.its bittersweet end

This is the most I've cried at a series finale since "Six Feet Under". Well done to everyone involved and I'm glad they didn't give solid confirmation on everything (Dr. Edwards' fate, Dylan finding out about Caleb etc.) as I think Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin wanted the viewers to draw their own conclusions. I hope to see loads of awards handed to everyone involved with this show during awards season. :-)

Second time I’ve watched the last episode and I’ve sobbed both times wow. This was amazing and Norman deserved so much better than the life he was given; he was so sweet and only wanted the best for everybody but people misunderstood him so much. The only thing I didn’t like about this season was Romero (not Nesters fault cause he’s a great actor), I just didn’t think he’d do the things that he did and they were married for like two weeks so it’s a bit extreme. Other than that I loved every second of this show and will really, really miss it.

It was a bit of karma coming his way after having done what he did to get to Norman. Also he shouldn't of been so blinded to the fact that Norman wasn't evil, he was just sick. He was the one that helped put him in the mental institute so he definitely should've known

Romero only got Norman help in season 4 because he wanted to be with Norma. There was no other way this could end for Romero. He was a corrupt cop who finally found love and thought he could live happy. That changed. Driven by revenge, he dies. He shot a cop at the station. He would've been in prison for years. Killing off another main character made the finale greater. Plus in the movies we know Norman killed his mom AND her recent lover.
