How in the world did old time designers do this without computers? All those parts mesh together to make an almost perfect machine, amazing!

the more I look inside my firearms, the more I'm impressed by Colt revolvers ... we need more videos on the Python!

I’m having issues with my Colt magnum carry and a light double action pull as well,as light primer strikes in double action. This helped me figure it out a little_ thank you for posting!

I've taken apart many a Smith and Taurus, and even a Charter or two. Done a fair number of trigger jobs on Rugers. But I've only been brave/dumb enough to take apart one Colt revolver ever, an old Agent. I swear I like to never have found the little springs and shit that flew out when the side plate came off. I ended up working on that little bugger with it and my hands inside a gallon freezer bag so I didn't lose anything else, lol. Never again will I be brave enough or dumb enough to dig into a Colt, so more power to ya, man!
@robertbrandywine Жыл бұрын
Something was wrong then because the two coil springs don't "jump out" when you remove the side plate.

Its exactly like a Colt New Service inside, but it has a separate spring loaded firing pin instead of a direct hammer striker. Dates back to 1898 - but the hammer safety was later (1909?) improvement. The barrels on the early guns look like they came off 1873 Peacemakers. The first 250 do not require FFL.

good series JW... I've changed the springs on my gp100 a couple of times, but don't think I would tackle that Colt !

You may be the First to ever have the Balls to take their Colt Python apart for Guys like Me to See!

Pythons are a bit tricky at first. As a gunsmith, if you work on them enough. You get familiar with their action. The main concern is disrupting their timing. Have to be aware of that. That could ruin your day. :)

My 1975 Colt Python 1975 is making some rattle noise near the hammer is this normal?
@isaiahmiller27485 жыл бұрын
Hey love the video there isn't much out there for the me mechanics on the python. I was contemplating building one mainly because of the price tag and it being next to impossible to get in Massachusetts and when you find on it has a "MA premium" slapped on the price. Would you reccomend a build? Or are parts milled differently than others for example a 1985 pythons inner is different from a 1986? Also where could you get a frame? Liked and subbed btw

On the second and third day of owning my python I disassembled it twice. It wasn’t well maintained and needed a deep clean. I managed to do it flawlessly and drastically improve its function but dagum that was far more stressful then my other revolvers. Learning on my cheaper ones was definitely key for my confidence though
@TheGunfighter45acp8 жыл бұрын
Interesting! Are any of those parts interchangeable w/the Diamondback?
@BATJACJW8 жыл бұрын
+TheGunfighter45acp They might be but i know the python has a bigger frame then the D frame on the diamondback.
@Satchmoeddie4 жыл бұрын
NO, but it is the same action with the bell crank hammer block and the wedge slider trigger return off the bottom leg of the v spring.

There is more inside that revolver then the average car, You can sure see that you really need to know what you are doing. Nice to see it, but have someone, other then me work on it. Good video. What do you think of the price of these now ? GONE NUTS !
@BATJACJW8 жыл бұрын
+Veran Kapaun thanks for supporting and watching. The prices are too high these days i think.

The guy who founded Charter Arms worked for COLT for years so I would think Charter revolvers would be similar internally. He also worked for Ruger so Charter is probably an amalgamation of the two.
@randallscott-key8022 жыл бұрын
Charter Arms revolvers ARE similar! Colt and Charter Arms are the only two brands with cylinders that rotate clockwise! This makes for a stronger, more secure lockup! Because the hand comes up on the left side of the ratchet, when the gun goes boom, the hand actually blocks the cylinder from jumping out of the frame as has happened on S&W magnum revolvers - the older models.

After watching this now I really won’t shoot mine if something in it brakes I’ll never be able to replace/repair it he’ll finding someone that’s capable of repairing a Colt Python is probably next to impossible In it’s self
@robertbrandywine Жыл бұрын
Any competent gunsmith should be able to do this kind of work.
@robertbrandywine Жыл бұрын
LOL, those saying this compares in complexity to a "Swiss watch". I also watch mechanical watch repair videos and there is little comparison in complexity.
