Thanx for showing us the inside. I took the side plate off of a revolver for the first time ever this year. Interesting to see how the small pieces fit together to function.

So for everyone and the OP I found taking mother's and going around all the areas with major contact minus the hammer and trigger for the most part and the transfer bar. The connector for the hammer and mainspring is MIM and has a bunch of impressions around the actual links for whatever genius reason which honestly could us a replacement with an actual polished billet piece. The other MIM besides the transfer bar and cylinder turn lever is the trigger return latch where you can clearly see the stamp. I made sure to polish the blade shaped piece that makes contact with the cylinder turn hand and the inside groove where it fits to a mirror. The little round base to it as well where it sits in the bottom of the frame grip. Now with no lubricant it runs all buttery even the double action pull. There's no a lot you can do with pythons except maybe slowly sand down some of the spring around the entire diameter to prevent weakening it too much but otherwise you gotta wait for better parts after market.

The only thing in there that’s not MIM is the springs. I guess that’s how they are keeping them under two G’s.

I take the sideplate of all of,my revolvers. The machined parts in my Python are very well done! 👍👍👍👍

Nice, was curious what's inside. Something I noticed is the old pythons have a hammer stop mechanism that moved out of the way to let the hammer strike the firing pin, where the new ones seem to have a transfer bar that comes up to allow the hammer to engage.

Yup, there's a couple of changes. But then again, all weapons evolve as time goes by. I remember when I was in the PD, I'd work one day of my five in the armory reparing weapons. S&W's were the main revolvers used, and also were the issue weapons as well. A few officers did carry Colts. A few Pythons, and some Trooper models. When any Colt came in for repair, I'd have to stop and "shift gears" so to speak with them. 😒
