The director of these 3 films, Chris Nolan, is a massive james bond fan and so you will see, a couple of massive stunts in these 3 movies lifted directly from bond, you've already seen one stunt in you only live twice that you'll see in the 2nd batman film, and in the third is a stunt you will get to when u get to 80s bond...

The entire essence of Batman is summed up in a fantastic piece of dialogue between Bruce and Alfred from this movie. “People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy and I can’t do that as Bruce Wayne. As a man, I’m flesh and blood. I can be ignored. I can be destroyed. But as a symbol. As a symbol I can be incorruptible; I can be everlasting” “What symbol?” “Something elemental. Something terrifying.” Great writing!

This film took a number of ideas from the comic book, Batman: Year One (including the scene where he summoned bats to escape the police). And they should have kept Katie in the sequel (which is the best of the trilogy by far, and arguably the best Batman film made to date).

Christian Bale does such a good job in this series essentially playing 3 characters. He plays the "Billionaire Playboy" persona to throw people off that he could ever be Batman. He plays the raging beast that is Batman, and then he plays real Bruce, and I think he's still trying to figure out who that is

Batman Begins for me is the best out of the three films. It has the best depiction of Gotham along with a really solid atmosphere and aesthetic that is lost in the two sequels. The Dark Knight is a great film but I was never a big fan by the whole "It could be any city" idea Nolan had going for his Gotham. Very much prefer Tim Burton's depiction of Gotham but I do like Batman Begins the most out of the Nolan trilogy. Overall it's a really good film but Mask of the Phantasm will always be my favourite Batman film. My Favourite Gotham's: Batman 89 & Returns | Gothic Revival to the Max Batman Forever | Neon Gotham I loved The Batman | Modern Take Yet still Felt like a Unique City Mask of the Phantasm | Dark Deco Timeless 1940s Love Batman & Robin | Loved the Madness Batman Begins | Solid Modern Reimagine Batman VS Superman | Alright, Need to see More The Dark Knight | Chicago, Just Chicago The Dark Knight Returns | Pittsburgh, Boring

Another wonderful reaction. Well done. Christopher Nolan and his creative team did good job culling critical elements from the 1986 comic "Batman: Year One" by Frank Miller and artist David Mazzucchelli ; a comicbook reboot of the origin of Batman. Though they skipped over some parts of Miller's storyline, and inserted "Hollywood" at times, the movie is an overall excellent reboot.

Put on the list: The Empire of The Sun, directed by Steven Spielberg, you are going to see Christian Bale's debut at just 12 years old, carrying the entire film on his shoulders, since he is the protagonist and his performance is masterful at such a at a young age, when I saw him at that moment in 1987, I said, if this young man manages to survive fame at such a young age and doesn't get dizzy and lose himself in excesses, he's going to become a great actor as an adult and that's how it was, he Time proved me right, in that film you could already see the talent and all the potential of Bale.

This film was quite the surprise in 2005. The last Batman film in theaters was infamously Batman and Robin from 1997 and it was goofy and completely different in tone compared to the earlier ones. After that Batman just disappeared from theaters. True, you had the New Adventures, Batman Beyond and the Return of the Joker which were fantastic but that was pretty much it and only on the smaller screen. Then the Marvel films began coming out starting with Blade and then the X-Men and finally Spider-Man. It seemed no one cared about Batman anymore. When I was 15, I had absolutely no idea they were making a new Batman film but here it was along with this new director I had never heard of up to that point named Christopher Nolan. It was such a breath of fresh air and took itself VERY seriously compared the last movie. My only one real complaint was that Batman doesn't have a final confrontation with the Scarecrow but other than that, it was an amazing watch. Nolan's career really exploded after that, especially with the next one which to many is the greatest comic book film ever made.

A great reaction, Jen, I'm glad that you enjoyed it. This adaptation of Batman is closer to the original comics than the Tim Burton films, the animated series has been the best so far, in my opinion. 'The Batman' starring Robert Pattinson from earlier this year is really good, hopefully we'll get to see more of him in the role. Nolan's trilogy of Batman films are very enjoyable though, and Bale does a great job, I look forward to seeing you react to 'The Dark Knight' next.

Batman was created 80+ years ago and has been reinterpreted many times in comics, TV, film and games. In some, he is a serious detective, with minimal gadgets. In some, he is a billionaire, genius, playboy, philanthropist minus powered armor or the pinnacle of human training without a SuperSoldier formula. Everyone has their favorites but they all center on a few points. A. His family died in Crime Alley (as it's called). Doesn't matter who the killer was or why, Bruce was traumatized and does not let it go. B.The bat becomes his symbol to cause fear. How he learns this (phobia, one time scare, etc.) doesn't matter too much. C.He is only a man with no "powers" except determination, intelligence and training. Sometimes he makes his own gadgets too, other times not. D.He did not make himself a billionaire, but being one provides many material and social benefits to help fight crime. E.He has very few friends: Alfred and Jim Gordon mostly. Sometimes Lucius Fox, sometimes Robin and more. But mostly Alfred and Jim.

For me this was the real start of superhero movies being done seriously rather than tongue in cheek and hammed-up. I know serious actors had played superheroes before (Michael Keaton as Batman just as one example) but the script and the mood of the movies had never really matched it before. For me this movie and its sequels paved the way for the superhero movies with real drama and character development like we’ve subsequently seen in the MCU.

Jen: “This move got dark.” Us: Oh boy, are you in for a ride with the next ones… Also, to answer some questions, the bat summoning piece of tech is from a fantastic comic series called “Batman: Year One.” A lot of details about Gordon and Bruce are fleshed out in that comic and referenced in this movie. Batman’s lair is commonly called The Batcave, though in the comics, it’s not a designation Bruce came up with himself. There’s another story about him introducing Dick Grayson (Robin) to the cave and his only comment when Dick asks where they are is, “I never thought to give it a name.” Joker killing the Wayne’s is an invention of the Tim Burton movie. Canonically their killer is Joe Chill, a low life mugger, though his motive varies from story to story. The place where they’re shot is commonly called Crime Alley, with most versions being the Wayne family having watched some version of Zorro, a character that Batman is heavily based on. As a heads up, Rachel is recast for the next movie, with Maggie Gyllenhaal taking over the role.

22:27 This was very clever. The kind of thing Sheriff Brody in _Jaws_ would probably appreciate. If you have a house full of guests, and they're in mortal danger and need to leave, don't _tell_ 'em they're in mortal danger. They'll panic, and in the melee, they'll probably hurt each other. Some of them might even end up _dead._ No, get 'em annoyed at you. Get 'em to leave because, suddenly, you're bad company. You'll probably have to spend time patching up your image later, but they'll be fine.

Ra's Al Ghul was played by Liam Neeson aka Obi Wan Kenobi's Master in Episode 1. and the guy we think is Ra's Al Ghul at the beginning was played by Ken Watanabe aka Katsumoto from The Last Samurai.

The best Batman origin story ever! Before Christian Bale was cast as the Dark Knight, Josh Brolin, Cillian Murphy, Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joshua Jackson, Eion Bailey, Hugh Dancy, Billy Crudup, and David Boreanaz were considered. Before Gary Oldman was cast as Jim Gordon, Kurt Russell, Dennis Quaid and Chris Cooper were considered. Daniel Day Lewis, Viggo Mortenson and Guy Pearce were considered for Ra's Al Ghul.

Ra's al Ghul has been portrayed as Batman’s mentor. Centuries old, kept alive by the Lazarus Pit, he considers Batman his worthiest opponent, and has frequently sought to make the Dark Knight his successor. He is one of the few that knows Batman’s identity. A great reboot for Batman. You’ll love The Dark Knight. Also if you’ve watched GOT the young boy with Rachel played King Joffrey.

4:52 In the comics, they mistakenly believed that Bruce needed to take fighting lessons from everyone who was the best at their sport or style. Eventually thanks to the 1980s "Ninja Boom" it hit them that to make it simpler for themselves, they could just have him be a "Ninja" as seen here. Bad thinking had them create a character called "The Karate Kid" because they didn't know the term "Karate" is a Japanese word meaning "way of the open hand"! They meant "martial arts" but were even unaware of that term! But once they learned it, they stopped using "fighting art"! Their trademarked character eventually every martial art on Planet Earth and then in the Milky Way Galaxy! All because of their NYC naivete about anything that wasn't Boxing or Wrestling! But they got one aspect right! Provided that you survive of course, as what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, the younger you start training the sooner you will become a Master or Mistress of the Martial Arts without gray or silver or white hairs by the time you reach that goal! 😊

I love how invested you get into action movies. And all the bat sounds: Absolutely adorable. There's definitely a lot more production value in your videos now days. I definitely appreciate it. Keep up the good work. And definitely continue this batman trilogy. Definitely my favorite for the gritty realism. Also, can't for you to watch number 2 because Heath Ledger is by far my favorite Joker. Can't wait for you to see him.

i just have no words to describe how much i love the nolan trilogy. still today it is my favorite version of batman. christiane bale does - in my eyes - an fantastic job portaying gothams dark vigilante. micheal caine as alfred was just brilliant! Liam neeson as ra's al Ghul was a diamond! btw. jenn? speaking of liam neeson ... did you noticed the irony? jedi master Qui gon Jin trained anakin skywalker, who later become darth vader ( or at least startet the training, even through he didn't had much time to train, befor he wass killed by darth maul) and here ... Ra's al Ghul trained Bruce wayne, who later become Batman both played by Liam Neeson

This is one of the best trilogies I have ever seen (even though others like Superman, Star Wars and Lethal Weapon......are included. The actors are terrific! BTW Christian Bale was just in the recent Thor movie. I also like the effects and comments you have come up during the reactions. Can't wait for you to see the other two and we will see you soon!!!!

I can't believe this film is EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD already. It seems like no time ago I was reading about how much weight training and eating Christian Bale had to go through after filming 'The Machinist' for this role, and here we are almost two decades later.

3.2K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! ☺️ Notes: Hmm. Ahem. Typically the homes of creatures are "lairs" such as in "The Lair of the White Worm" while villainous people have hideouts and heroic people have a base of operations. Batman's "Batcave" though, has creatures living in it! Those bats! So nice pick-up on that aspect! 👏 I really enjoy your videos! 🎉

A lot of this movie was recorded in Downtown Chicago, IL. Wayne Enterprises HQ is actually the Board of Trade building. I went there back in the mid-90s for a field trip for my economics class. I used to work downtown Chicago for almost a year and walked a lot of the streets that were shown in this movie. They actually were filming this movie when I was downtown giving a friend a lift to the Northside. Had to take some detours because the roads were closed for the filming. The "under" the street areas is Lower Wacker Drive. You see this also in the movie The Blues Brothers. And yes a lot of homeless live down in Lower Wacker Drive like in the movie. You really don't need actors to portray the conditions down there.

I am ashamed to say that the algorithm has suggested I watch your videos for probably about a year and I only clicked my first time today. I don't know if you edited this yourself or you have someone very talented doing it for you, but I wanted to say that was very different in the best possible way. I love these movies and Nolan is one of my favorite directors, but watching you watch it was better than watching it without you would be. I will finish off this trilogy now then probably watch most of your other reactions because that was great. Thank you.
