I actually really like how, in this movie, Bruce Wayne IMMEDIATELY stands up and shouts "Harvey, I am Batman!" to Two-Face after he makes his demand. It kind of stuck with me that Batman, as a character, would have given up being Batman (even potentially dying) if it meant that he could save someone else from dying. And there's that part where Bruce just looks at Grayson and says "I can stop you" without any bat-armor or anything. It's just the way he said it and the look he gave Grayson, like "Try me, I'll have you on the ground in two seconds."

I always said if Batman Forever was a serious darker movie, I would still cast Jim Carrey as the Riddler.
@moviemaniac2159
@moviemaniac2159 5 жыл бұрын
Also, the cast would've been different too. Michael Keaton was supposed to play Batman again, but he quit because they were changing the tone of the film. Billy Dee Williams was supposed to play Harvey Dent/Two-Face after playing Dent in the 1989 film, but Schumacher replaced him with Tommy Lee Jones. And most interesting, Robin Williams was in discussions to be the Riddler at one point.

If it was a darker movie, they'd have to rewrite two face completely. But Val as Batman, Jim as Riddler and Robin would still work well in the story. Two face would serve as the darker contrast to Jim's manic energy.

This is gonna sound weird but one thing i liked about this movie was when Dick Grayson was "leaving" and Bruce tells him "by now the circus must be halfway to Metropolis". The fact that they just refrence that Metropolis and by extension Superman is a thing that exist is a nice nod and not the most common thing in superhero movie until Marvels cinematic universe

What, you mean like Harvey Dent looking like Billy Dee Williams in one movie and Tommy Lee Jones (huh, I never noticed the similarities in their names...) in his next one? Yeah, plot holes... as a side, did you know that supposedly, in one earlier version of "Batman Returns" the character of Max Shreck was meant to be Harvey? From what I heard, Catwoman sticking the taser-thing into his mouth as the end would've (somehow) been how he was scarred in this continuity... or so I heard, at least. I haven't seen if that's true however, so take it with a grain of salt.

Jim Carrey feels like the perfect casting choice for Riddler, but Joel Schumacher somehow fucked up his character. Edit: I know this comment is old, but I know that Joel Schumacher isn’t to blame for Batman Forever, he originally wanted a darker version of the movie, but WB wouldn’t allow him. Why does WB have a history of not letting a director see their own vision?

fun fact: Jim Carrey's role as the Riddler was meant to be for Robin Williams... who wasn't available, and Jim Carrey was brought in as he was the next "off the wall" person down from Robin Williams they could get. So there could've been a slim chance Robin Williams could've been a Batman villain.

While Batman and Robin is the worst movie, I actually hate Forever more because it could have been a great movie. For one thing, Schumacher wanted to keep the tone of the Burton movies originally but the studio demanded a more kid-friendly film so thus it went off the rails. And also it has a great cast, Kilmer could have been a good Batman, Jones would have been a good fit for a serious Two-Face but instead we got a lame Joker copycat, Carrey is capable of more nuanced performances (Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine, etc.) and could have done the smug Riddler justice but instead we got his more common comedy shtick, and Kidman deserves better than playing a horny "psychiatrist" who adds nothing to the film. Only weak link is O'Donnell but really that was inevitable, Dick Grayson as Robin should be played by someone 15-17, not someone who looks like he's at least in his early 20's already. While B&R was doomed from the start, Forever just makes me think of a good film we could have gotten and that pisses me off more.

ULGROTHA The film begins with the escape of Harvey out of Arkham. Literally the first words of the movie is Hell here. The hanging guard and the inscription on the walls of blood: the BAT MUST DIE. That is, Batman appeared immediately at the crime scene. The giant mouse is Bruce's inner fears, and it goes through the whole movie until at the end Bruce finally takes them, as well making reference to the return of the dark knight. And that's exactly what Nigma sees in the finale when he talks to Bruce, that fear that Bruce has mastered is literally driving Nigma crazy. By the way something like we saw in the finale of the Arkham Knight. The finale does not refer to Batman of the 60s, he was sent to the finale of the first film, Batman and Robin standing on a gargoyle and look at the city, and Dr. Meridian asks Alfred When will it end? Alfred never answers. Bruce chose to live in darkness, rejecting happiness with a girl, but now he's not in this alone. One is stalling if not a masterpiece, then at least a very strong idea. And by the way Nygma is also cut, and there were several scenes showing how he is a sadist. And again, the revelation of the characters, a more complete story arc, part of this is in the network, especially I recommend to see a fan-made remaster some scenes allows you to understand more how it would look in the film. Schumacher wanted to make a film that respects the work of Burton, but Warner would not let him, look for deleted scenes, the beginning and the end was way darker, had more character development, Actually if you keep in mind the scene in the cave, you realize how epic and important was the last dialogue of Nigma and Batman, and you know what Nigma was so frightened that he went crazy. The arch of Bruce's doubts makes sense. This whole hopping tone of the film is the result of the Studio's intervention. I hope that we will ever see Batman Forever by Schumacher, not the Studio.

Unpopular opinion, but I would rather watch Batman and Robin over this. At least Uma Thurman and Arnold Schwarzenegger are having fun in that. Batman and Robin at least reaches levels of "so bad it's good". This just feels like a 90 minute Happy Meal ad.

They're both bad, but the parts of B+R with Arnie are good, because he's the only one who can really make this cheese work. (It helps that he's not shrieking and leaping about like Carrey and Jones.) Uma's not bad either, certainly better than that personality vacuum Nicole Kidman.

You know, even if it's a bad movie, at least it's having fun. Unlike some of today's schlock which is just depressingly bad, you can watch Jim Carrey be so ham he's a pile of ham hocks on stage, next to the giant pile of bacon that is Tommy Lee Jones. Watching him act as Two Face is hilariously awesome, because he went FULL into this goofy comic book universe. It's like some inverted Tim Curry equation of acting.

I remember being pleasantly surprised after seeing this one for the first time. The 12-year-old me thought this looked like a total nightmare when it was in production. The specials being aired on Entertainment Tonight made it look like a return to the days of Adam West. Well, it may not have happened with Batman Forever but it sure did with the follow-up.

While I don't care of Scumacher's Batman movies, I think Batman Forever is the better of the two movies. I still perfer Burton's Batman movies over Nolan's and Schumacher's. But Nolan's films are good too. The first two anyway.

+ Ceo Wesley I pretty much agree with you. I know these days there's a lot of dislike for the 89 "Batman" because "The Dark Knight" has eclipsed it but it's still my favorite of all the Batman films. Probably why I enjoy "Gotham" so much. It's got quite a "Burtonesque" feel to it.

Shadowman4710 Wait, people hate Tim Burton's Batman movies? Why? I mean they were like the perfect Batman movies. I think the first one did a great job of capturing Frank Miller's dark and gritty Batman comic books.
@Shadowman4710
@Shadowman4710 6 жыл бұрын
+ Cheo Wesley. "Hate" might be a bit strong but yeah I've run across a number of reviewers on the Internet in the last few years who seem to think it's a highly flawed and fairly bad movie. I think it suffers primarily because it's obviously not "The Dark Knight." Personally, while I've always enjoyed that film, I still think it's one of the most overrated films of the last couple of decades. Yes, it's a good film. But is it really that much better than Burton's vision? I don't really get it. I'm also nowhere near as blown away by Heath Ledger's performance (May he rest in peace) as so many fans seem to be. Honestly I don't think I've ever seen a bad performance of The Joker. Okay, Jared Leto's version wasn't great but I don't think he sucked either. Ledger's very good in TDK and yeah it's probably his best performance but it's not all that much better than Nicholson's and to be honest, the kid on "Gotham" is totally knocking it out of the park as the younge "proto-Joker," Jerome.

Ok recently watched the batman quadrilogy for the first time and Batman forever is incredibly underrated I’ve read the comics, watched the movies and played the games and this is a really good Batman movie I’d even say it’s on the same level as *Batman 89.* And they made Alfred and Batman’s relationship the most comic accurate and realistic in this movie and Batman and Robin with the two actually feeling like a father son relationship. What did you expect Bruce is reaction to Alfred’s “sandwich” line “f*ck off Alfred.”

One other thing I've noticed from this movie, Batman tells Alfred, "I've never been in love before".. When?? The best girl hes ever gotten close with was Vicy, from the first movie.. This girl just seems too Horeish and Batman is falling in love with someone like that?? Better Diolog in the movie would of been the creepy point out and tell her no.. Seems like Batman was a little horny in this movie.. Also, "Bat Credit Card"

To be fair, she's being whorish for him only. I can see a normal person choosing Chase over Vicky or Selina just b/c she's much simpler to deal with. But Batman needs to be more complex than that, which is why he constantly falls for villainesses.

@jp3813, A normal person?? Selina is a villian Bruce fell for.. Vicky and Chase are not villians at all, yet one is a reporter on Bruces life, The other one, tries fixig his head. I'd choose a reporter then a mental doctor. @Dalton Williams, the plot serves no purpose at all. Hes choosen to have both life styles years ago. Having a mental breakdown for who he wants to be, over a stalker who wants batman, should of not been so hard.
