Always thought that Val was the best Bruce/Batman in any of these 89-97 Batman films. This movie had a far stronger focus on Batman's origin than the Burton films and obviously Batman and Robin and it did a good job emphasizing the psychological issues that Bruce had while highlighting his detective skills and ability to get out of tough situations. Forever has its issues, but this is the only Burton/Schumacher film where Bruce is a main character instead of being in the background for the villains.

Really? Burton's Batman is shown to be a detective -- looking into Jack Napier's background -- and a superior chemist -- cracking the Joker's Smilex formula. In Returns, he also starts looking into the Penguin's background after his first public appearance, and quickly figures out that the Penguin is a child murderer. Both Burton films show Wayne to be a detective. Arguably, it's the Nolan films that highly elide this aspect of the character.

One of Batman's nicknames is the Dark Knight Detective, so investigation and deduction kinnda goes with that nickname. Deducing is sort of a requierment for detectives. It's also paying homage to the original Adam West Batman series, in which the Riddler would leave clues in form of Riddles for Batman to try and figure out.

@@GBRyker61 Of course, no question about that. The issue here is how Batman got to such conclusion. The character here uses some logical thinkin that doesn't make sense. Mr. E. That makes sense but the part of how he gets the Nygma part, It doesn't.

Maybe this scene was a nod to the old Batman series? The Adam West Batman would draw conclusions out of thin air.

if he doesn't fight joker and have romance with catwoman that's not batman...except for Val Kilmer. his batman is the only one that didn't need those characters to shine. he only needs beat riddler and like his predecessor and succesor (Keaton and Bale) be dark and serious (like batman). and besides thinking well he is replacing Michael Keaton because is the sequel so in way his batman already fought joker and have romance with catwoman. so he is batman (with Michael Keaton and Christian Bale and as i can see Ben Affleck who only needs is catwoman because he have joker now) Clooney was the one who fuck it up he wasn't dark, serious or dark. he wasn't even a good replacement of Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer

Keaton, Kilmer, and Clooney played the same rendition of Batman, so saying that one sucked is irrelevant and would by association make the entirety of that installment of Batman null. Never understood all the haters out there on these portrayals. Just be glad that someone made a movie from a comic book and arguably did a great job at it.

I completely disagree with your requirements for a good Batman.

Considering the Riddler has to keep projecting it for the question mark to remain in the sky, the police could have just looked for the source of the laser for clues of his whereabouts

They probably did and relayed the info to Batman. The riddle solving was just for show.

This was my favorite thing about Val Kilmer Batman, HE SHOWED HIS MIND IN PROBLEM SOLVING AND ANALYSIS SKILLS, NOT JUST CRIME SCENE AND DETECTIVE WORK, which is something lacking in all the other interpretations, including Keaton and Bale, Keaton just comes off all dark and broody, where as Bale is more concerned about keeping his voice as deep as he can get it, Kilmer doesn't get enough credit for showing this trait of Batman off.

I wonder how many times it took Bruce to get the batwing out of the cave 😆 (had to fly side ways through the cave) Bruce: Keep hitting that Corridor, Alfred. Alfred: Is that your fourth attempt, sir? Bruce: I lost count.

Just when we got a Batman suit with no nipples on it, we have to get an ass shot of Batman to ruin the moment. Well I guess I should not complain too much, at least we don't have to deal with both at the same time like in the sequel.
