Best and favorite Batman run, I still have some of those comics when they came out. Batman getting his back broken, Wolverine getting his adamantium removed by Magneto and Superman's death are the most impactful comic book moments for me during the 90's. Just two things: 1) Favorite Nightwing Costume and 2)Sucks they didn't include the Azrael introduction :( ....

Hey Omar! Great review as usual. Totally agree with you that Kelley Jones was NOT the artist that should have done the covers of these omnibuses. (I would have gone with Shane Davis myself). I got all three trade paperbacks, ONLY for completion purposes. I absolutely HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE the "Knightsquest" storyline, partly because I never liked Jean-Paul Valley as Batman, but also because they gave him the LAMEST villains to confront! I mean, the first villains he confronts is a pair of twin brother cowboys with six-shooters?! And, they even had a story that related to the JFK assassination, because at the time of the issue's publication, it was during the 30th anniversary of the assassination! Ghoulish... But, that was why I was willing to go with Bruce Wayne's spine being magically repaired so that I could look forward to "Knightsend". I will have to think very carefully about these omnibuses.

DC also forget (haha "forget") to add Batman/Punisher : Lake of Fire. This story is IN CONTINUITY as mentioned in one issue of Knightsend :)

I love omnis, but in this case... I have the OG trades, two of which are by Titan Books. So that's basically part 1 in two parts, and part 3 in one more. Then I got the thick paperbacks. To get my collection to match the omnis, I got Prelude, the Search and Troika from the new 9-part series. Doesn't look nice on the shelf, but collects everything except one(!) Showcase issue. So, I am happy now. But maybe, just maybe, I might go for the three omnis or just the whole 9-part-series. We'll see.

First up, I just want to say that the Azrael Zero Hour showcase is collected in the third TPB volume. Read it recently, and its def there. I really love this Saga, altough nostalgic reasons might factor into it somewhat . I feel it still holds up very well, altough Knightquest does drag on somewhat. But it still feels very important and exciting to me. Its great to know that the Quest, JL Task Force, The Serch for Alfred and Troika are collected, as I dont own or read those. It makes getting the omnis tempting, despite the story dragging out a bit at times Either way, they are out of print presently, so temptation averted. At least until they are reprinted 🤣.

Just brought prelude to knightfall and the search trades after deciding to upgrade my single issues of the whole knightsaga event. Would you consider a retrospect of this saga? I like how you can tell your newer videos are much improved compared to the old ones. Great video.👍

Personal note: No collections have sword of azrael Vol 1: same-ish of thick trade Vol 2: has more (has The Search) Vol 3: skipping Zero Hour issues "If haven't read - recommend trades"

Omar, are the Shadow of the Bat issues collected in the correct reading order as you and Kirk discussed about in his custom binds? Just curious. Would you say the omnis are pretty much complete except for the missing Azrael issues at the beginning. Do you think the new collections that are coming out in tpb are more comprehensive than the old collections but equal to the omnis in content just not format. Don't mean to ask so many questions just trust your opinion on the matter more than most. Thanks, Ray

Good & informative review. I did notice one thing you kept calling Jean Paul Valley's version of Batman "BatAz" that's the opposite I've what I've heard from when the books were on the stand until now. I also heard him called "AzBats".

I thought Knightfall was great, but I read it in the paper trade format, wouldn't mind reading it again in the 100 dollar books. But I did like the No man's land storyline a lot more. So how come you kept both versions of knightfall?

Hey Omar you're probably aware I collect "The Legend Of Batman" graphic novels collection from Eaglemoss. I received part 39 today which is "Knightfall Prologue". Lo and behold this one includes "Sword Of Azrael" 1-4, plus Batman #488 & Vengeance Of Bane #1. I was concerned about the large double dipping as I own the 3 massive Knightfall trades. However this gives me something I don't have. While I'm interested in how these books will map out, I will keep the trades of course as I suspect they are more complete. I have an impression this series only includes the Batman & Detective Comics issues. Cheers mate.

just seen that Vol 1 is supposedly being reprinted sometime in 2023, only way i'm ever getting any of these omnis is if they change the entire design of the covers and spines, ugliest omnis ever made still to this day.

I have the shitty 2000 trades of Knightfall and they're way too choppy and it always rubbed me the wrong way how they omitted the stuff where Bruce actually cures his injury, so Volume 2, he's still searching, and volume 3, he's back, can walk, and is just fine. These editions don't even have any covers or even cover artwork to them either.

Next year is the 30th anniversary, hopefully we'll see a reprint with non deformed people on the covers.

What other books are not collected in the Omnibuses?

Somehow I got Batman #497 for like $1.00, and Batman #500 for like $4.00.

Got my set today. I am very disappointed from the cover art. It's terrible and as you mention, the spines look terrible next to each other. Who is approving these things? One more thing I didn't like is the paper quality, which is not omnibus, i. e. Deluxe level. Other than that, the main storyline I have read before and I like it, but I haven't read a lot of the content collected, so I'm looking forward to read it for the first time.

Volume 2 has the weakest writing, but the highest ratio of Graham Nolan artwork which makes up for it lol. Nolan and Breyfogle were the best Batman artists of the early 90s, so it bothered me that Jim Aparo got to draw most issues of vol.1/Knightfall proper when his art was past his prime and fairly outdated by the time the 90s rolled around. Not dissing Aparo because he was an important artist for the character in the 70s and 80s, up there with Adams, but by '93 Breyfogle and Nolan were simply better...

These hard covers have the worst covers and spines I've ever seen of Batman. I have the erlier ones and that 3 hard cover. It would be black. I hate all of that color on spine. Sad...these books deserved a better cover and spine as well.

Good video, but your reasoning for not liking the spines makes zero sense. Both new and old have small volume numbers, the DC logo consistently in the same areas, and the titles in the same spot and with the same font. Seemed like you were grasping at straws for a complaint there.
